Binbirdirek Sarnıcı, Yerebatan Sarnıcı’ndan sonra İstanbul’daki ikinci büyük su haznesi olan sarnıçtır. Eski Bizans kaynaklarına göre IV. yüzyılda Konstantin (Constantinus) zamanında yaptırılmıştır. Binbirdirek Sarnıcı’nın zamanla kuruması nedeniyle burası 16. yüzyıldan itibaren atölye olarak kullanılmıştır. 3584 metre kare büyüklüğünde olan Binbirdirek Sarnıcı’nın içinde bulunan 224 orijinal sütunundan 212 tanesi günümüze ulaşmıştır.
Sarnıçtaki sütunlar, üst üste bindirilmiş iki gövdeden meydana gelmekte, üstlerinde hiçbir işleme bulunmayan kesik piramit biçiminde başlıklar bulunmaktadır. Sütun gövdelerine işlenmiş Yunan harflerinin sarnıcın yapımında çalışan ve sütunları işleyen taşçıların işaretleri olduğu bilinmektedir. İstanbul’un kültür ve sanat alanında önemli bir yer tutan sarnıç günlük müze olarak ziyarete açıktır.

Binbirdirek Cistern is the second largest water reservoir in Istanbul after the Basilica Cistern. According to the old Byzantine sources, IV. It was built in the century Constantine (Constantinus). Since the Binbirdirek Cistern dries up over time, this place has been used as a workshop since the 16th century. 212 of the 224 original columns in the Binbirdirek Cistern, which is 3584 square meters in size, have survived to the present day.
The columns in the cistern are made up of two overlapping bodies, and there are truncated pyramid-shaped capitals on top of them without any embroidery. It is known that the Greek letters engraved on the column bodies are the signs of the stonemasons who worked in the construction of the cistern and worked on the columns. The cistern, which has an important place in the culture and art area of Istanbul, is open to visitors as a daily museum.
