Between their raucous calls and snazzy getup, the Acorn Woodpecker always gets your attention in the California landscape. This male was one of a large family that dominated the Buckeye glade nestled in amongst the oaks and eucalyptus that defined the woodland area
With the grey unsettled weather and a day of visiting parents, I decided to take a walk down the Yarrow Valley near Chorley on my way down to Bolton.
I had seen pictures of the Weirs in the valley and the "salmon ladders" that allow spawning fish to get upstream past the falls. I had a couple of hours to get up and down the valley in between my scheduled visits so here is a picture of the curious Weir, Fish Ladder and a side fall on the River Yarrow.
I did come prepared with Wellington Boots to getup in the River to get this shot and in my efforts I nearly provided a 4th wal of falling!!

I was sound asleep when my husband came back from walking the dogs and said GETUP!!! You are missing it!!! So here's another sunrise photo from the beach at Hatteras. Behind the camera is a half asleep crazy woman wearing pajamas -again.

And another senate look. I'm kinda catching up posting these. I usually take a photo of Jesma's getup each senate meeting. It's fun to dress her up.
On my last hike I found a comfortable rock for a little rest stop and decided with my unusual getup due to pandemic avoidance I'd try some selfies so I could look back at it from some future time when life is semi normal again. The idea of joining 2 selfies together makes me quite slim which isn't a bad thing, and the two different landscapes compressing me is A-OK with me. I would gladly yield to the desert like this -- it is a favorite place.
In Omdurman, every Friday evening ,one can witness the wonderful
Dhiker ceremony at Hamed al Nil Tomb.
The Tomb lies in middle of a huge cemetery , where Sufis and fakirs ( Dervishe's)
dressed in there colorful outfits dance and performs the ceremony.
I saw this young man actively participating in the ceremony in his magnificent getup.

I took a photo of Mike (in his Sunday best haha - aka his working in the yard getup) standing by the hollyhocks to show how tall they are. He is 5'10" the stick he is holding is 8' and the hollyhocks are still at least another foot and half above that.
I bought them two years ago, they are a biennial so they never grew until this year.

SPRING MOUNTAIN
Beautiful morning for shooting the mountains. There was a winter storm warning last night so I knew I was gonna getup before sunrise and headout to the mountains. It did not disappoint! I ended up at Red Rock Canyon Overlook and this morning was the first time the lot was full with cars that I've witnessed. =)
Jasper's all ready for a night on the town. Not all dogs call pull off a purple top hat and purple tie, but I think Jasper looks quite dapper in his New Year getup. Happy New Year everyone!

Friday’s Food for Thought
As long as there is time there is change.
We all love to see change as long as it is for the better, never bad. Most of all, we want others to change for us. We are critical of others who refuse to change their ways but we never view ourselves first for change. It is so easy to ask others to make change but it seems so hard for us to do it. Believe it or not, the best way to change the environment we live in is to change you. Sometimes we have to be the example for others to see that change is possible.
The enemies of change are fear, laziness, and pain. Fear of what others would think and of failure. No one likes to be rejected we all want to be accepted. So we keep life monotone even though deep inside we are yearning for change. If we cut away all the excuses we make and be honest with ourselves we find laziness sitting right in our lap keeping us from getting up and putting change in motion. Anytime you make change pain is going to be present which no one likes but if you continue to press forward the pain will not bother you any more.
Before we ask others for change we need to start asking ourselves "when are you going to change?"
Back from a thoroughly enjoyable long weekend in the Lakes, with uncharacteristically nice weather. Not fantastic the majority of the time for photography but it had it moments, and the sort of temperature Brits start to moan that it's too warm! (me being one of them...)
This wasn't a photocentric trip but I got out for two shoots. One was down at Elterwater which is fast becoming one of my favourite places on the planet. It's just a beautiful place and there is so much variety from a photographic point of view.
Personally, I think this is one of my best. I'm a sucker for a panoramic and this captures a subset of a lovely copse of trees in their spring getup strongly backlit by the rising sun. Taking an original image in such a well known spot adds some extra satisfaction. However, knowing how much I like it, it's guaranteed to bomb on here!
Having said all that, I'm not 100% on the colours here and might return to it when I have a decent monitor in the future.

Cosplaying as the classic image of Princess Leia from A New Hope (Star Wars). This is the first time I cosplayed as her.
I've made the dress, the belt and painted the gun black. The gun is really Han Solo's gun. Leia should have Stormtrooper's gun.
The updo is a blend of my own hair and fake hair lengths mixed and rolled up and pinned with 100's of pins.
As I posed at a cinema so it was probably at some premiere, I think it was Attack of Clones so it must be 2002?
Of course I struck same pose as with the Mara picture. :P
As a total I've cosplayed about 5-6 times as Leia. About 4 times with the complicated hairdo. I think I went to both premieres (Attack of Clones and Revenge of the Sith) in this getup, as well as two conventions. And then some gatherings without the hairdo. The dress got dirty at the end, it is hard to keep a white garment clean, even with laundry detergent...
Captain Blue Star is an oft-overlooked superpowered man.
And for good reason. He can shoot blasts of energy from his hands, but they're barely enough to light a lightbulb. That, and his entire getup is ridiculous.
Many people followed this kid around. So cute, so nonchalant in his getup.
Really bizarre street festival, wish I knew what it meant. Involved a never-ending dance around a circle, some people dressed in flashy costumes with ruddy-cheeked masks and feathers, some as wolves, some in luchador masks without the matching leotards. Further was a portion where people alternately whipped each other (willingly, even children bent over to get lightly whipped by their parents) and set off firecrackers hidden on their bodies.
Today is one of those days
