The laguna de La Mica is located high in the Andes at the foot of the Antisana volcano at 3952 m asl (12,965 ft). This huge lake serves as a water reservoir for the city of Quito.

The Getty Villa is a re-creation of an ancient Roman Villa housing Roman, Greek and Etruscan artifacts. No expense was spared in building this site, which is beautifully landscaped. Parking at the site is $20.00, and the cost of admission is free. Very affordable and accessible to the public, and definitely worth the visit. Many of the archaeological pieces were found amazingly intact; others were lovingly and painstakingly restored. The entire complex is an architectural marvel.

The town of Noto is famous for its old Baroque style architecture. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra. Parts of the cathedral, unexpectedly collapsed in 1996.
In 2002 Noto and its church were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mono Lake is the saline remnant of a much larger Pleistocene fresh-water lake known as Lake Russell. The water is currently about twice the salinity of ocean water.
