Took this shot last October at the Nesqually Reserve in Western Washington. I've been quite busy lately around the house with projects. Not much time for what I would rather be doing. Today I started ripping up the old dinning room floor so I can begin installing new pergo through most of the house. I started that project some time ago and Sassy is wanting to pick up some cheap labor outside of Lowes to get it done herself. So I better ...Geterdone.
This is the aircraft that helped put Canada back on the map in recent years. It was ready and waiting when hot, dry summers led to some terrible wildfires.
Sure there are jumbo jets that do a great job but they need a good airport nearby where they can fill up. The Canadair CL-215 can scoop and go from almost any nearby water supply.

With Halloween fast approaching I thought I'd get a head start with the creepy, fucked up pictures....

This past weekend I photographed the MonsterX Tour at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, MI.
Very challenging environment to shoot in, but also very rewarding. Most important tools for the weekend; Plastic bags, Duct tape, and of course ear plugs!

Made it down to the Redondo Fishing Pier in Federal Way, WA for the sunset last night. I was torn between going to my Mt Rainier Vista, or down to a Puget sound Beach. It's been a while since I've been down to Redondo Beach, (California....I wish, but NO), so I wound up at Redondo Beach Fishing Pier-Boat Launch, Federal Way, WA. I got several great shots of the sun setting and the crab fishermen coming into the boat launch to pull their boats out of the water, onto trailers behind pickup trucks. This was my favorite though....so far, with this couple out at the end of the fishing pier sharing in, what seems to be, a intimate moment. Nothing like being a voyeuristic photographer, slinking around a location as the sun is setting, salivating, as couples walk by, hoping they walk into the perfect composition. I was pretty happy with these two at the time. If I was more of a entrepreneur, than a photographer, I'd flip out a business card at them as they walk by, hoping to lure them into purchasing a print for $$$$. Between working on brakes on my van. changing oil in both cars etc, the forty hours a week I spend at my day job, and last but absolutely not least, the quality time I spend with my one true love, Sassy, I'm hoping to get to the entrepreneur part.
Hope you had a fantastic weekend! If not it's almost over and you better get with it. If you didn't well then, if God grants ya...have a fantastic week ahead. Seven days till Christmas! Geterdone! Christmas shoppin' that is.
In the continuing saga of my Zodiac Room sign, I'm am grateful to say the story is over and the piece has been restored.
Long story short, I dug the channel letters, their neon tubes and the plastic faces out of a dumpster years ago. The new owners of the restaurant space didn't care for them and tossed them out just at the moment I was driving by. The timing was right and they were mine.
Years later, the Museum of Neon Art (MONA) puts together a show based on the design of words in signage and artwork. This Googie piece would be perfect for the show and became my kick in the pants to geterdone. Months of searching for the right can company and getting one piece screwed up after another, getting the broken C repaired, and getting it wired, transformers bought and etc... well thankfully it's lit!
With a lot of help and guidance from MONA and its crew, I'm so very gratefully that it's working again. I've yet to do it, but I'm going to write a nice thank you check to them for their help.
Once I get a photo of the lit Zodiac Room, I'll definitely post it here. In the meantime, go to MONA and check it out in person!
Out in Wickenburg Arizona at the Hassayampa river, about to embark on Jesse's first trip on the ATV.

...the hairy people.
My boys' hair grows VERY fast....every 3 weeks or so they need a trim. I do it myself b/c they put up such a fuss.. (And also? Over the course of the year that's around $600...for toddler hair care...insanity.)This was the first time in 3 very long years there were no tears. YEA.
