I took this on the first frosty day this winter, and actually, I think the only frosty day. Didn't have to go far to the back yard :) The grass had just been cut but there were a couple of tall blades looking like they were having a conversation.

Week #14 ~ Get Low

Many times the wrong train took me to the right place.

One from the archives. I took this in Squamish in August. There's always so much to photograph there. Can hardly wait to go back!

Week No. 33

Theme: Get Down Low

Category: Landscape

The Brief:

This week we invite you out into the countryside to shoot some stunning Landscapes or Seascapes but please on this occasion no Cityscapes.

Now for the Down Low bit:

We ask that you get as low to the ground as possible and include some fore-ground interest to add dynamic perspective to your image.

ATSH - This photo screams August in these parts!

"Get Down Low"

This wasn't quite what I had in mind for the theme. I spent quite a bit of time trying to research some potential spots, but those will have to be for a later day when I can actually schedule time to drive and scout those locations in person. Weather just did not want to cooperate this week either. If it wasn't extremely hot and humid, it was usually threatening rain and lightning.

I spent a good part of the morning hiking some trails at Silver Springs State Park, and took this one to a boardwalk overlook on the Silver River, which is probably no more than a foot above the river. I put the tripod and camera as low as I could on the boardwalk, and took a series of exposures. In post, I did my best to blend the sky from one exposure with the rest of the image, and then adjusting things from there. Everything had a strange green color cast, so I did my best to correct it to better reflect the crystal blue color that the river has.

I wanted to get something that was more representative of northern Florida. The waters are said to be a constant 72 degrees (F) year-round, and as such the river and surounding state park have become popular for boating, kayaking, and hiking, but swimming is prohibitied, because of alligators. Silver Springs and the Silver River have been popular fo quite some time, as it once was a place for steam ships to drop passengers off as they traveled south from the Jacksonville area. The waters are extremely clear that people can see all the way to the bottom of the river, which may actually be at quite a depth in places, yet looks so close to the surface. Some of the original "Tarzan" movies were filmed here, in addition to some underwater sequences for the TV show "Sea Hunt," among others.

Cycling from Delft to Rotterdam an back again (until I got a flat tire), we passed the rural area around Schipluiden. Crawling under a fence I caught this scene.

It was a grey and very cold and frosty day in Northcliffe Woods, so much so even the fungus had ice crystals on them!

Active Assignment Weekly: Mar 15 - Mar 21: Get Low

But this week's assignment is to get down on the ground (or at least put your camera on the ground) and take a picture. I want a super low perspective.

Dare: Take it outdoors (hopefully the weather permits)

Restriction: Keep the camera 2 feet or less from the ground

WIT: There is this massive tree in the primary school next to wear l live so thought might be a good subject to use. So I lay on my back with my head against the trunk, used my 10-22 lens. I may have then rotated it and played with it in picnik as I was bored.

A very nice and sunny Saturday afternoon at the market where all sorts of very nice items can be bought (if you are lucky that is)

Got down on the ground (in snow, first day of spring) and took this picture of my ladder. I had bigger better ideas, but the snow ruined them.

My neighbors chickens are very friendly so not only did getting low help with a better angle for the picture, it got 3 of them to come over and see what I was up to. This lead to a nicer close up and more detail in the feathers.
