Cette place de style victorien est devenue le cœur animé de la ville depuis son remaniement à l'époque victorienne. Elle est bordée d'imposants édifices du 19e siècle, dont celui qui abrite les Glasgow City Council qu’on aperçoit en arrière-plan et sur lesquels veillent la statue de Walter Scott dressée sur une colonne et une série de statues d'hommes illustres.
En 2014, on pouvait aussi voir, au centre de la place le logo coloré qui annonçait les XXes Jeux du Commonwealth qui devaient se dérouler, du 23 juillet au 3 août suivants.

Glasgow city centre, with a glimpse of the City Chambers facing George Square. I am standing in St. Vincent Place as a Glasgow Corporation Transport Leyland PDR1 Atlantean approaches. It is one of many with this style of Alexander bodywork that GCT bought throughout the 1960s. The pole at the far right had once carried trolleybus wires, a mode of transport that GCT had phased out in March 1967.

After much hammering and grinding, the statue of Prince Albert on his horse came off its plinth today to much cheering from the crowd 😀 removed as part of the renovation / restoration / reimagining of the square. Woke up cold one Tuesday,
I'm looking tired and feeling quite sick,
I felt like there was something missing in my day to day life,
So I quickly opened the wardrobe,
Pulled out some jeans and a T-Shirt that seemed clean,
Topped it off with a pair of old shoes,
That were ripped around the seams,
And I thought these shoes just don't suit me.

And suddenly everything is right,
