Please enjoy a look at Fairview Avenue in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle facing southbound towards downtown. In the center background, the Hyatt Regency Hotel illuminates the entire eastern side of its building with the letters "BLM". It's one of the most grand and conspicuous displays of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in the City of Seattle.

Throughout multiple neighborhoods in Seattle -- from single family homes, apartment residences, and small businesses to high schools, universities, and major corporations -- signage in support of the Black Lives Matter movement has proliferated widely.

In my latest photo essay, "Signage of the Times", in my official blog, I attempt to answer the most frequently posed questions regarding the momentum of BLM: "What is different this time? Why are so many more people onboard compared to before?"

Also, If interested, you can view my previous photo essay featuring images of the protests in Seattle against police brutality and institutional racism in my blog article: "The Pandemic, The Pandemonium & The Protests."

Day 13th of the protests after the George Floyd killing and this one was for one peaceful rally against police brutality and social injustice. I shared my thoughts on the recent events on a previous post. This time, I had the opportunity to attend a demonstration and listen to speakers firing up a peaceful crowd with their words. At some point, many participants laid down for 8 minutes and 46 seconds with their fists in the air. That was the amount of time George Floyd was pinned on the ground by the police officer.

... Baha'i Prayer for Unity ...

O my God! O my God! Unite the hearts of Thy servants, and reveal to them Thy great purpose. May they follow Thy commandments and abide in Thy law. Help them, O God, in their endeavor, and grant them strength to serve Thee. O God! Leave them not to themselves, but guide their steps by the light of Thy knowledge, and cheer their hearts by Thy love. Verily, Thou art their Helper and their Lord.

Amidst the coronavirus lockdown, I took this photo on Abbot Kinney in Venice, California. I was drawn to the empty, bright chairs on the porch. My father passed away just as covid 19 started. The scene reminded me of all the lives lost. The recent events including the killing of George Floyd has heightened that feeling of lives lost. “Absence” was selected for inclusion in the 5th Anniversary Art Exhibit, Fusion Art, (Palm Springs, CA)

“Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless.”

Justice has prevailed. On Tuesday, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on three counts for murdering George Floyd last May after Floyd attempted to use a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase cigarettes. The guilty verdict cannot bring back George Floyd, but it brings needed justice to one of the most grotesque examples of policeviolence this nation has ever seen.

Colpevole.

This is a series of Chicago street photographs and portraits taken during the Covid19 shelter in place, the easing of that order and the protests instigated by the murder of George Floyd and many others. Viewed sequentially, it attempts to tell a larger narrative of the city and the people's resilience in the face of these pandemics.

We must unite and stand in solidarity.

Night of June 6th at the Lincoln Memorial

This is 2020 yet based on the recent events, it feels like it's the 1800s. As I have commented on some previous posts, there are many things that are wrong in our modern societies. What we saw happening in Minneapolis is not an isolated event. Throughout the years we've witnessed racial discrimination, we've seen people being mistreated based on the color of their skin. This issue is not political and as such racism should be condemned by everybody, no matter where they stand politically. I know that this is not a US thing only, however it feels like here it's happening more than anywhere else in the world. It feels like this society was built on "crooked" foundations. And maybe it was, as slavery played a key role, mostly on the Southern States, on how this country evolved through the years and became a world power. But this is not 1874, this is not a sugar plantation in Louisiana. We heard the words "I can't breath" in 2014 when Eric Garner was choked to death by a NYPD officer. 6 years later not much has changed. We heard the exact same words as George Floyd was suffocated by a Minneapolis PD officer. The names and the places don't matter, as history is repeating and innocent lives are lost. Sadly, in the name of these lives people are acting in a way that generates more hatred. Looting and setting Police Departments on fire is not the solution. It will only make things worse and inevitably, we will see more people die. When will this end?
