With the escalation of Hurricane Joaquin, the International Sandsculpting Championship tent was, unfortunately, forced to shut down early. Hopefully, you can get a sense of the quality of the artwork and artists that the Neptune Festival draws each year (even if you did not get to visit the 2015 show).

Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team Veterinary staff cleared Beetle for release so she could return to her natural habitat and make her way north for the summer season.
Beetle (think this year’s car make/model naming theme) is a young, female grey seal that was rescued April 10 from the shores of Corova, NC.
She was treated for malnutrition and dehydration with supportive care, which included proper nutrition, hydration, and vitamin supplementation. Beetle was also treated with antibiotics for a bacterial infection and some minor abrasions.
She is the first grey seal to be released from Virginia, and will be released with a satellite tag. The Stranding Response Team released Beetle along the shore near Neptune’s Park at 31st Street.
