AMSTERDAM, Rechtbank / Court - Het schitterende beeld van een gebukte figuur, 5 meter hoog, die een nestje vasthoudt, werkt als een magneet. Het is speciaal gemaakt voor bezoekers van de rechtbank, de grootste van Nederland, een imposant vijftig meter hoog gebouw met vijftig zittingzalen.
De objecten in het nestje hebben symbolische opbeurende betekenissen: wijsheid (uil), volharding (pijl) en bescherming (eikel) in die grote grove hand met die kleine glimmende spulletjes. De bedoeling is dat deze grote buigende figuur ‘bemiddelt’ tussen het hoge gebouw en de nerveuze bezoeker!

The Älvsborg Bridge (Swedish: Älvsborgsbron) is a suspension bridge over Göta älv in Gothenburg, Sweden, which connects the north and the south part of the city. It was built in 1966. The total length is 933 metres and distance between the towers ("main span") is 417 metres, while the clearance below the bridge is 45 metres. The pylons are 107 metres tall making the bridge one of Gothenburg's most prominent landmarks.
Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden. It is situated by Kattegatt on the west coast of Sweden, and has a population of approximately 570,000.
Gothenburg was founded as a heavily fortified, primarily Dutch, trading colony in 1621. In addition to the generous privileges (e.g. tax relaxation) given to his Dutch allies from the then-ongoing Thirty Years`War, the king also attracted significant numbers of his German and Scottish allies to populate his only town on the western coast. At a key strategic location at the mouth of the river Göta älv, where Scandinavia's largest drainage basin enters the sea, the Port of Gothenburg is now the largest port in the Nordic countries
Gothenburg is home to many students, as the city includes the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Volvo was founded in Gothenburg in 1927. Other key companies are SKF and Astra Zeneca.

Many artists settled in the Charlevoix region. Mountains, the river, local products, and more. Nature is generous. Light industry is particularly magnififque.

A very good friend shared with me a Bald Eagle Nest under the understanding that I wouldn't share it's location. A request I always honor, and I appreciate his trust and generosity in sharing it with me. This is the female tending for eggs. I'm looking forward to one day seeing the mate and hopefully seeing some new eagles make their way in the world. Happy New Year everyone!

Wybung Head, perched in the Munmorah State Conservation Area, is the kind of place that earns its name. "Wybung" is a local Aboriginal word meaning "Dangerous Sea," and this headland delivers on that promise with sheer, unfenced cliffs and an ocean that is perpetually trying to lull unwary rock fisherman, and photographers, to their grave.
The headland offers 270-degree views of the coastline, and on a clear day, you can see for miles—just don’t get too close to those crumbly edges. Whale watchers and ocean gazers find plenty to love here. However, shade and shelter are entirely absent, and the wind shows no mercy. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon when the temperature soared into the 30s °C and the wind gusted at 40 km/h. I’ve never felt closer to understanding life inside an air fryer.
After edging uncomfortably close to the edge of the crumbly cliffs at the end of the headland for the obligatory heart-stopping views, we decided to head down to the cheerily named Deadman’s Beach. Because why wouldn’t you follow up a stop at "Dangerous Sea" with a jaunt to "Deadman’s Beach"? “Track” is a generous term—it’s more like a gravity experiment with added rocks. From there, we scrambled around the rockshelf to Frazer Beach for a swim. The ocean has never felt so refreshing! The crowd (about a dozen people) wasn’t ideal, but hey, its school holidays, and the nearby campground explains the human influx.
This photo captures Wybung Head itself, though its sheer scale is hard to convey. If you squint, you might spot a post with a lifejacket at the end of the rockshelf to the bottom right of Wybung, a small but poignant reminder of the dangers of the seas at this beautiful place.

I love Christmas. It's my favourite time of the year: a season of kindness and generosity, friendship, laughter and love. It is also the time of the year when we get to deck the halls with beautiful decorations.
I have a Christmas tradition. I bead Christmas baubles for a select group of friends every year. Each of these baubles is 15 centimetres in diameter and contain hundreds of sequins, varying in number depending upon the complexity of the pattern and the type of sequins I use. Most sequins in these baubles are 5mm in diameter, but there are others that are slightly bigger and some which are smaller, like the small stars which are 3mm. Depending upon the colour of the sequin, I will use either a gold or a silver pin to attach it to the bauble.
These baubles are smaller than some others I do, however because they are complex patterns which start from the outside and are worked outwards in ever decreasing circles, each bauble takes approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours per side.
It is however, a labour of love which I do to pass the time throughout the year.

With travel restrictions in place (and thunderstorms anyway) I thought I would have a go. I set out with the intention of creating a different shot to Richard rather than trying to re-create it, which is not to say I don't like his original! In fact I probably would not normally edit this shot in the same way if it were mine! Richard used a Nikon Z6 and 20mm f/1.8 S lens, 9 sky shots and 3 light painted foreground shots. I used Sequator to stack the sky images (as per the video) and Photoshop to combine the result with 2 of the 3 foreground light painted shots.

The towns featured here, Norcia and Castelluccio, suffered a major earthquake on 30 October 2016. It was heartbreaking to learn that the damage to both was extensive, and unfortunately their appearance today is rather different from what is seen in these photographs. Though thankfully there was a limited number of victims, there are still tens of thousands of displaced families and I would like to pay tribute to the amazing work of the Emergency Services and the Italian Red Cross. I would also like to invite all of those who, like me, have enjoyed the cultural and natural wonders of Italy to also take this opportunity to give something back, and make a donation to the Italian Red Cross on www.cri.it/terremoto-centro-italia

The parish of Streatley has a long history going back to Anglo Saxon times. Following the Norman conquest of 1066, Geoffrey de Mandeville was made Lord of Streatley Manor for his valour at the battle of Hastings. It was he who made a generous gift of land to support the priest, and it was he who appointed Wibert as Priest of Streatley in 1086.
The present church and chancel were practically rebuilt in 1864. Some additions were made to the tower, which was originally built in the 15th century: the turret staircase on the south side and the demolition of the original cupola which housed the Sanctus bell (circa 1549). It now hangs at the back of church.
At the beginning of the 19th century, St Mary's was in a very poor state of repair but it was extensively restored in the mid 19th century under the auspices of a Mrs Stone, who was the lady of the manor at Streatley House in the High Street. The chancel was rebuilt by the lay rector, S Pusey, Esq. In 1893, the fine Victorian reredos was erected in grateful memory of Mrs Stone. The reredos is a beautiful design in alabaster by JL Pearson RA. Besides the reredos there are a number of memorials to the Stone family. Both the east and west windows are in memory of William Henry Stone (1863).
During the 19th century rebuilding work, many of the original 13th century materials were used, such as, flint (a local material) and stone. The clerestory is an addition, the extra windows increased the light and ventilation. The columns of the nave and aisles were built in alternate bands of cream Bath stone and Berkshire chalk. In 1864 Samuel Wilberforce, Bishop of Oxford, consecrated the restored church.
Under the tower arch is a marble wall slab to Sophia Small, of Chalford, Gloucestershire, spinster 1783. Near this is a tomb with painted crest, to Samuel Rush (1771). At the back of the church there is a brass plaque, which lists the Vicars of Streatley dating back to 1307, when John de Whicheford was presented with 'the tithes of the Manor at Streatlee'.
The Big Buddha is a large bronze sculpture of Buddha, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, near Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
The sculpture's base is a model of the one in the United Kingdom. One of the five large Buddha images in China, it is enthroned on a lotus on top of a three-platform altar. Surrounding it are six smaller bronze images known as "The Offering of the Six Devas" that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha, representing the Six Perfections of generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation, and wisdom, necessary for Enlightenment in life.
The 34 m (112 ft) tall image weighs over 250 metric tons (280 short tons), and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. In addition to the exterior components, there is a strong steel framework inside to support the heavy load. Visitors have to climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha. The Buddha's right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction, while the left rests open on his lap in a gesture of generosity.

A few weeks back a very generous soul called the secretary of our camera club and offered to the club a donation of a suitcase full of analogue camera equipment. One of the cameras included was a medium format Zenza Bronica SQ-A camera along with two lenses, an 80mm and a 200mm. As the only film shooter in the club I volunteered to go through all of the equipment and do my best to give it the once over to see what it might all be worth.
The Bronica is not an insubstantial camera, big and heavy and basically a Japanese version of the much better known Hasselblad 500cm. The fact that it copies the Hasselblad design in no way should be seen as detrimental to what the Bronica is capable of. It is a fine camera with a very good reputation among analogue enthusiasts. I was tasked with selling the equipment on eBay on the club’s behalf and because any older film camera is worth more if it’s been film tested I thought it my duty to take it out and shoot a few rolls of film through it. 😇
This then was the 2nd picture I took with it and to say I am mildly impressed is an understatement, it takes great pictures and the 80mm lens is especially good. I’m happy to report that the camera worked like clockwork and the pictures it produced are in no way inferior to what any of my more expensive Rolleiflex cameras are able to produce. I’ll be sad in a way to see it go but for a cash strapped camera club the funds it provides us may keep us just about afloat for a couple of years to come.

After the generous snowfalls last weekend due to the visit of the low pressure system named Monica, the Sierra de Guadarrama looked beautiful on a very sunny day.
This is the view from Madrid, with La Moraleja in the foreground.
The straight line distance from this location to the mountains is approximately 27 miles (44 km).
With temperatures rising over the past few days, much of the snow has already melted, a real boon for our reservoirs, which are currently above 84 percent capacity.

The pretty town of Carlingford lies on the Cooley peninsula, surrounded by the mountains of the same name, in Co.Louth, close to the border in the Irish Republic.
Founded by the vikings, its Norse name is " Kerlingfjoror "
which means a narrow inlet or sea hag.
The view is looking north across the ford towards the Mournes and Greencastle, Co. Down. The invisible border between North and South, runs down the centre of the lough. It has been invisible for 20 years and gone are the troops and the minesweepers patroling the lough on both sides, thanks to wonderful work and effort of the Irish and British governments, and the people who forgave so much to try and bring a lasting peace.
Lets hope that good sense prevails as I dont know anyone, north or south who wants a border on our island and what that could imply. 3500 died because of the trouble and it was not worth one drop of human blood.. Never again!!! There is no one here who hasnt been affected by it, myself included.
The ferry travels daily across the lough from Greenore to Greencastle and lots of tourists, cyclists and walkers go this way to exlore the area.
I intend to get back there in the Spring as I want to see so much more of this llittle known gem.

An administrator contacted me during the week bemoaning the fact that activity has fallen off in groups and blaming Flickr. I dont agree! Activity has fallen off because the members cant be bothered faving photos or they only do one photo of a particular member. I almost always Fave more than one. If someone Favourites one of my pics, I always check out their photo stream and Fave 2,3, 4 or more of theirs if I can find ones I like. It only takes a minute and most peope do respond. I would ask everyone to fave each others photos in as much as possible as it makes such a difference. I would never Fave a photo that I didnt think was good enough as its disloyal and gives a false impression. I expect the same treatment from others. So please do fave one anothers photos as it makes such a difference. I also go through quite a number of groups every week and try to Fave as many as I can though I understand it takes time. So do try to be generous!
