The Beauharnois generating station is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station along the Saint Lawrence Seaway on the Saint Lawrence River, in Quebec, Canada. The station was built in three phases, and comprises 36 turbines, capable of generating up to 1,903 MW of electrical power. Constructions on the facility began in 1930 and was completed in 1961.

The Met Office (the UK’s national meteorological service) and ICIMOD organized a regional workshop on Climate Services for the water and hydropower sectors in South Asia to assess the current use of climate change information and generate buy-in to collaborate on providing improved services. Researchers, service providers, boundary organizations, and users of future climate information from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan and regional organizations discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with the use and uptake of climate services for water and hydropower sectors in South Asia. The workshop is part of an ongoing series of activities in South Asia under the Asia Regional Resilience to a Changing Climate (ARRCC) programme. ARRCC is funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), and is a partnership with the Met Office and the World Bank. More info: www.icimod.org/?q=36177
