This early concept has three nearly identical piloted vehicles-two boosters and one orbiter-a triamese design. They could be launched either stacked or clustered, as shown here. MUSTARD stood for Multi-Unit Space Transport and Recovery Device.

Originally designed for a U.S. Air Force study, this triamese concept has three similar piloted vehicles. The orbiter is sandwiched between the boosters. All three vehicles have snap-out wings and jet engines for return flight.
