The door to a historic mosque in Shiraz, Iran, has two knockers, one for women (on the left), and the other for men (on the right). The knockers make a different sound when knocked, alerting whoever is inside the gender of the person at the door.

The knockers have different designs. For women the design is one of flowing curves. For men the design is a relatively simple shaft. The analogy to the sexual organs of women and men is clear.

In this case of this photo, the two men in their 40s who explained the design to me giggled like teenagers as they explained the difference. Personally I think it is wonderful that a sense of humor can be maintained in the design of a holy site.

WRUA Member Reuben Cheruiyot watering saplings in the nursery:

"Today we were preparing tubes for seedlings so that we can plant the seeds. The seedlings we will plant mostly along the riverbanks, maybe surrounding the dams. We are also planting in schools, near the water source and along the water catchment areas."

"When we go to the forest there are indigenous trees, so we go and bring the seeds and plant them here."

For the CC competition on a 'Holidays' theme.

What struck me, was the traditional gender 'divide:' in the colour of the bikes and clothing, and the fact the boy was doing the actual angling. Maybe the girl was allowed to use the net?

To be honest, I see nothing wrong with this!

More CANDIDS and STREET SHOTS will follow as and when.
