Pecel gendar miliknya semakin dikenal banyak orang.

While in NY I caught this story in the news..

very disturbing.. & sad since the daughters are undocumented & from Mexico..

Mom who beat 11-year-old daughter with mop handle beat older girl, too

BY ALISON GENDAR and JONATHAN LEMIRE

DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Tuesday, October 28th 2008, 4:00 AM

The Brooklyn mom who admitted beating her 11-year-old daughter to death with a mop handle also abused the girl's older sister - and tried to make her work for a living, law enforcement sources said Monday.

Florencia Vazquez, who told detectives the fatal blows she delivered to her daughter Alejandra were so hard the mop's wooden handle snapped in two, was charged with murder and her boyfriend with manslaughter last night.

Vazquez also admitted beating the dead girl's 14-year-old sister, Imelda. Last year, the older girl was sent from her father's home in Mexico to her mother's cramped East New York apartment, which Vazquez, 36, shared with her boyfriend, Andres Pavon-Balderas, 28, who fathered two of her other three children.

Almost immediately, Vazquez began to abuse Imelda and forbade her from attending school, the sources said.

"They argued and the mother beat this 14-year-old girl and pulled out her hair," a police source said.

The Administration for Children's Services filed a neglect petition against Vazquez in January. It was unclear if the agency knew of the abuse.

A Brooklyn Family Court judge removed Imelda from her mother's home, but the judge and ACS were not aware the three other children - ages 6, 3, and 1 - lived in the Atlantic Ave. apartment at the time, sources said. Alejandra arrived last month.

It was not clear if those children had been abused, officials said. They are in foster care.

During her confession to 75th Precinct detectives, Vazquez said she singled out Imelda and Alejandra for abuse because she "despised everything connected to her ex-husband" in Mexico, a police source said.

An ACS spokeswoman said the agency is investigating the incident but declined further comment. A disposition in the neglect case was scheduled for December, officials said.

Alejandra's lifeless body was found in her bed Sunday, almost two full days after Vazquez savagely hit her with the mop handle, officials said.

Though she took the time to repair the broken handle, Vazquez ignored her daughter's whimpers and only dialed 911 when a man who rented a room in the couple's apartment saw the girl's battered body.

Vazquez and Pavon-Balderas originally told cops her daughter suffered the bruises in a street fight with other teens, sources said.

The medical examiner ruled the cause of death was child abuse syndrome and that Alejandra suffered blunt impact injury to her head, torso and extremities. She also had older wounds in various stages of healing, the medical examiner said.

Neighbors were stunned.

"Oh my God, how can you do that to your own kid?" said Annibel Hensen, 24. "I was shocked ... they seemed like a normal family."

This food is said to have become virtually extinct because it is difficult to find. The seller is the average middle-aged mothers who trade around with baskets containing menyunggi pecel materials. The main obstacle still in basic material factors, ie leaf clover.

It is said that these foods also has penetrated restaurants and hotels, but in my opinion, more mantab if we tasted it straight from traditional sellers.

As the name suggests, this pecel based leaf clover (Marsilea crenata) are boiled and served with boiled sprouts then doused seasoning made from sweet potatoes or sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is boiled and mixed with brown sugar, salt, shrimp paste, shrimp paste (hence marinade color black), a little peanut, and chili.

Pecel clover blends

Pecel is served without rice, clover and vegetable sprouts just watered seasoning served in banana leaf pincuk. To eat, we must and the obligatory use of pulleys crackers made from rice (in some areas in Java is called with crackers crackers gendar) to eat it.

This function replaces the pulley Crackers spoon. If my way of eating, crackers cuilan dicuil then used to scoop out vegetables and eaten together. Crackers are very wide, so we must be careful not to bring it down (because it is usually served alongside pecel).

In appearance, pecel clover was "less desirable", but in a sense, woohh! Seddap!

This food is usually sold by wandering around. The seller usually yell, "seemmmaannnggiiiiiii ...", with a certain tone to peddle his wares.

The vendors, mostly from Benowo area, western part of Surabaya. Incidentally, since I live in an area pakde Manukan, Tandes, which ndak far from Benowo, seller of the food was successfully intercepted in front of the house when passing by.

Because of the difficulty of raw materials leaf clover, this seller berjualannya uncertain time. Sometimes once a week, sometimes every two weeks.

Clover leaf used was not a wild clover leaf (commonly grows in rivers and rice paddies), but purchased from a person who cultivates this clover, according to the recognition of the seller.

Seller of the food clover

When observed, seller of the food clover style is very distinctive. The moms always use plus kebaya batik cloth, then a scarf wrapped over his head in such a way that serves as a base when the merchandise disunggi.

Formation of merchandise when disunggi was very typical. An baskets or baskets of vegetables and spices are under, and then superimposed on top of crackers seplastik pulleys.

Memgang merchandise in one hand above the head, the other carrying a basket containing the banana leaves to pincuk and other gear. Sure it takes incredible balance so that the merchandise is not spilled.

When there is a buyer, with a technique that Spry, baskets towering above the head could be "landed" perfectly. Conversely, when finished serving, this merchandise baskets can quickly move to the top of the head!

Semanggi Surabaya

Semanggi or sometimes being called as pecel semanggi, is one of Surabaya traditional culinary. This food is rare to be found, and tends very difficult to find. The problem is about the limitedness of the semanggi or clover leaves as the main ingredient.

The seller who sell Semanggi is commonly middle-aged ladies who walk around the menu by lifting up the basket while making some particular noise like “Semanggiiiiiii” in order to let the people know their existence.

The ingredient in pecel semanggi is, of course, Semanggi leave (Marsilea crenata) or boiled clover leaves, there is also boiled bean sprouts. Those leaves are completed by the seasoning sauce that made of boiled sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) mix with palm sugar, salt, shrimp paste, little bit peanut and chili. Mix all the ingredients until it form of sauce.

This pecel served without rice, only clover and bean sprouts vegetables which sprinkled the seasoning sauce and served in banana leaf Pincuk, it is kind of banana leaf that folded and used as kind of plate. There is no spoon or fork to eat this food but krupuk. We can eat this pecel semanggi using particular cracker called kerupuk puli. This cracker is made of rice, some Javanese people call this cracker as kerupuk gendar. This cracker is large enough, and we can just chunk the cracker to be the spoon and eat together with the dishes.

The vendors are mostly from Benowo area, west of Surabaya. Because of the difficulty of the raw materials of clover leaf, the seller is selling uncertainly. Sometimes once a week, sometimes every two weeks. The clover leaf that used is not a wild clover, which is commonly grows in rivers and rice fields, but it purchased from a person who cultivates this clover.

If we lucky, we can find this food in some restaurants or stalls, but the originallity is coming from those ladies who carry away their menu in the middle of modernity vendor that walking around the city. We should be so proud to them anyway.

The price is similar between those walking ladies, which is cost around Rp. 3,500 per pincuk. But if we buy semanggi in restaurant or stalls in will cost Rp. 8,500 – Rp. 10,000 per pincuk. Convenient takes more price.

The ladies who carry the basket and sell semanggi have particular outfit that signify the semanggi seller. They always wear batik cloth and kebaya, a traditional Javanese cloth, complete with scarf that wrapped over their head in such a way to be a base on the basket when it lifted up.

One hand is holding the merchandise on the head, while the other hand is carrying a basket containing banana leaves to be a Pincuk and other gear. Sure it takes incredible balance so that the merchandise is not spilled out.

I thought back to any cyborgs I'd met in the past and the one who stood out in my mind was General Gendar. Yeah, he'd not been pleasant. But then another came to mind.

Tank: "Max Power was a cyborg." I pointed out.

Brass: "Yeah! And he was as mad as a box of Frogans!"

Tank: "True." I conceded. “How did you become a cyborg anyway? Was it by choice? Or…?”

Brass: “I was in an accident when I was younger.” He explained. “Was my own fault. Went for a joy ride on my Dad’s speeder bike and had a pretty bad crash. They had to replace most of my organs as well as all four limbs. The only thing that’s real me is my head.” He smirked, before his expression fell again.

Brass: "You see? Being a cyborg is not something to be proud of. I’m not really me any more."

Tank: "But it's almost impossible to tell! If you hadn't had your arm blown off, I would never have known! I mean, it certainly explains how agile you are, but you'd never guess just by looking at you."

Brass: "I know. But cyborgs get such a bad rep..."

Tank: "So change it!"

Brass frowned.
