Thy Castle
Thy castle dates from before 1615. It underwent several transformations. The current view dates from the rebuilding in 1769.
On the street side are the old common buildings with two towers, one of which dates from 1615. The portal dates from 1774.

Het kasteel van Thy dateert van vóór 1615. Het onderging verschillende transformaties. Het huidige uitzicht dateert van de verbouwing in 1769.
Aan de straatzijde bevinden zich de oude gemeenschappelijke gebouwen met twee torens, waarvan er één dateert uit 1615. Het portaal dateert uit 1774.
Houtain-le-Val Castle
The castle of Houtain-le-Val, first mentioned in 1125, was built by Walter de Holton, first lord of Houtain. Around 1340, John III, Duke of Brabant, bought the castle to give it to his daughter Johanna.
All that remains of the old castle are a few foundations.
In 1763, the castle was completely rebuilt. Over the centuries, these buildings underwent numerous changes according to the needs, insights and sometimes the whims of the owners. Two more narrow towers were added in 1850.
The last restoration works date from 1904, turning the fortified castle of Houtain-le-Val into a pleasure garden.
During World War II, the German occupiers established a headquarters in the castle. In 1944, as the British approached, Nazi troops tried to set fire to the castle, but with the help of all the villagers, the fire could soon be overpowered.

La chapelle est située à l'angle de la rue de la Chapelle du Try-au-Chêne et du chemin de la Chapelle du Try-au-Chêne, au sud du village de Bousval, sur le plateau à quelque distance de la ferme de la Baillerie2 et en face du bois de la Tassenière, aux confins des villages de Bousval (commune de Genappe) et de Tangissart (commune de Court-Saint-Étienne).

Pallandt Castle
Pallandt Castle is known as far back as the 15th century.
It owes its name to the family that owned it between 1742 and 1783.
Demolished and rebuilt several times (most recently in 1839), the current building was thoroughly renovated in 1913.
For almost four centuries, the estate has not been sold and is owned by the Baron and Baroness of Hooghvorst. One of his ancestors was part of the provisional government in 1830, at the time of Belgium's independence.
Pallandt Castle is still inhabited.

Kasteel Pallandt is al gekend in de 15e eeuw.
Het dankt zijn naam aan de familie die het tussen 1742 en 1783 bezat.
Verschillende keren gesloopt en herbouwd (voor het laatst in 1839) werd het huidige gebouw in 1913 grondig gerenoveerd.
Al bijna 4 eeuwen wordt het landgoed niet verkocht en is het in handen van de baron en barones van Hooghvorst. Eén van zijn voorouders maakte in 1830, bij de onafhankelijkheid van België, deel uit van de voorlopige regering.
Kasteel Pallandt wordt nog steeds bewoond.
La chapelle du Try-au-Chêne également appelée chapelle de Notre-Dame de Hault, est une chapelle rurale située à Bousval, village dépendant de la ville belge de Genappe, en Brabant wallon.
La chapelle fut érigée en 1608 par le capitaine Thierry Le Jeune, seigneur de la Baillerie et officier brabançon de l'archiduc Albert, afin de remercier la Vierge de l'avoir protégé de la mort durant la Guerre de Quatre-Vingts Ans provoquée par la révolte des Pays-Bas septentrionaux (Provinces-Unies) contre le royaume d'Espagne.

The Try-au-Chêne chapel, also called the Notre-Dame de Hault chapel, is a rural chapel located in Bousval, a village dependent on the Belgian town of Genappe, in Walloon Brabant.
The chapel was erected in 1608 by Captain Thierry Le Jeune, Lord of La Baillerie and Brabant officer of the Archduke Albert, in order to thank the Virgin for having protected him from death during the Eighty Years' War caused by the revolt of the Northern Netherlands (United Provinces) against the Kingdom of Spain.

Genappe, 30 augustus 2003 | ex- BR rangeerlocomotief 03 081 in sloopwaardige toestand bij de suikerfabriek van Genappe. Haast niet voor te stellen dat deze machine tegenwoordig in Groot-Brittannië in rijvaardige en gerestaureerde toestand terug te vinden is bij het Mangapps Railway Museum.

Een plaatje van de drukste dag die ik ooit meemaakte in Genappe! In de laadinstallatie van de suikerfabriek stond een volledige trein, links staat de lege trein die een paar uur eerder aangebracht werd door twee locomotieven reeks 53 en rechts rijdt .5167 binnen met opnieuw een lege trein! Een huzarenstukje om alles binnen te krijgen gezien het al zeer beperkte sporenplan op dat moment!

Beautiful, severe, vaguely art deco architecture, which the weather conditions make a little worrying.
