We went to walk at Lady Bird Lake, it was damn muddy; the Hermine storm run-off left a mess but in every pile of crap there is a peanut. We found a really cool plastic Adirondek simulated wood chair in a pile of mud, branches and junk. Humped it back to my VDub; stopped by the car wash to hose it down - I'm the proud owner of a piece of furniture for my apartment balcony. Cool eh? Simple joys for simple boys!

This colorless synthetic diamond from Apollo Diamond may pose a bit of a challenge to the African warlords and the De Beers cartel.
This diamond has the same atomic structure as a mined diamond, and is therefore optically, chemically and physically identical. But Apollo plans to get the cost down to $10/carat with high volume manufacturing.
It is grown one carbon atom at a time in a customized CVD (chemical vapor deposition) process. A perfect seed crystal starts the process (over time, Apollo has enlarged the “seed” to wafer scale). The seed is placed in a microwave chamber with a hydrogen + methane plasma heated to 1300 degrees that rains reactive carbon down onto the seed, growing ~1 carat per 12 hours.
Although the manufacturing process should produce diamonds with fewer flaws than mined diamonds, this early diamond has some defects that I could only see with the macro lens (inclusions and a crown notch. I’m just happy to have a version with personality. =)
It is 8mm wide by 2mm deep. Right now the 2mm depth is the critical manufacturing limit, and it affects the ability to do a standard brilliant diamond cut. So this one is flat and wide. But they can make sheets of diamond with this thickness. Imagine a diamond window pane, or semiconductor wafers that can run at 81 Ghz without elaborate cooling.

Lindsay Vera decided she wanted a challenge outside of a simple swimsuit so she went to the mountain tops! The beautiful furs she gathered from three different SL Designers form the lovely one of a kind winter jacket you see featured. Carrie was also infamous for wearing bows throughout the series, which was the inspiration for the earmuffs, with a bow headband. The warmth of her ski pants block the moisture and cold of the snow, while still staying fit and fashionably fabulous! Cute, couture, and sporty all pulled into one fun and flirty design to race onto the slopes.

Okay, initially I was going to post just these as they pretty much sum up my life for the moment. Stuck at the desk for butt-numbingly long (I need to get a better chair than the piece of junk my undercarriage currently graces), and feeling taxed and greased up by the end of it.
I actually shot this on another frustrating and long day, except it was more photography induced frustration (lots of that these days)! Here I had an amazing piece of glass (Takumar 50mm f/1.4) and yet I was unable to any of the shots, even half as close to how I wanted them to be. I tried and tried but I just couldn't do it (on another note, I NEED to get myself a Katzeye focusing screen asap). And my obvious failings were really getting me down.
Anyhow so I gave up, came back up, back to my melodramatic existence, looking off at nothingness for melodramatic emphasis when this fell into my frame, POV/angles/everything just done.
And I guess all my photographs are like that / accidental / luck / etc. Damn good chance and damn good lenses (very good at covering up damn low photo-skills). All I had to do was click & I did.
Despite the pitch dark room (to add to my melodrama) and the greased up glasses (my dirty laziness), I quite like how it turned out. It was as if a higher entity was telling me to stop being a sap and open up my eyes instead of quitting (again). And actually, wearing my glasses when shooting do sound like a good idea 8-)
OMG this day keeps getting better and better. Just lost the 40 tags I gave on this. FFFFFFFF.

Courtney peers into one of the heliostats of the BrightSource solar thermal facility in the Negev Desert of Israel.
Each of these flat mirrors aims the sun at a boiler tower, heating it to 1000°F to drive a steam generator, feeding electricity to the grid.
BrightSource believes that this will be the least expensive source of renewable energy and cost competitive with fossil fuels.
I just calculated that for their current projects in the U.S. alone, they will install 2 million of these mirrors… which will power 1.4 million homes… about 1.4 mirrors per home.
