Among the most elegant of the herons, the slender Snowy Egret sets off immaculate white plumage with black legs and brilliant yellow feet. Those feet seem to play a role in stirring up or herding small aquatic animals as the egret forages.
Breeding Snowy Egrets grow filmy, curving plumes that once fetched astronomical prices in the fashion industry, endangering the species. Early conservationists rallied to protect egrets by the early twentieth century, and this species is once again a common sight in shallow coastal wetlands.

Several years ago, my brother Tom gave me a hard time about fishing when a train was passing by. See: www.flickr.com/photos/tdanneman/6982362495/in/photolist-9...
Well, over thirty years ago, he was doing the same thing when an eastbound Rio Grande freight rolled by dropping downgrade at Crystal Lakes near Malta, Colorado, early in the morning of July 10, 1985. A train running on Rio Grande’s famed route over 10,221-foot Tennessee Pass, and he’s fishing!
This juvenile Burrowing Owl gave me the evil eye when I photographed him. I wasn’t that close but he didn’t want to be photographed that early morning on Marco Island.
We gave a lift to a friend having a day op locally. I took my camera on the offchance of a photo or two (not of his op I hasten to add!)
And this was the scene at Stokes Bay at 8 a.m. where we went on for breakfast at Bayside Cabin before returning to pick our friend up again.

Having a few corners left over from the fun I had with my plastic cubes, I found myself seeing what more I could make of the images. One in particular was very colorful so I started with that one. I duplicated it a bit and that started to look interesting, I then added the yellow from the corner I cut off and that gave a bit of light to the dark. With some nice color going, I was off to look for a bit of texture which led me to a camping trip folder and a window from the side of a wooden building in Maryland. Turns out I really like that shot and went ahead and processed it too. A stone stairway from a monument at Gettysburg Battlefield also caught my eye so I gave it a try and liked it. Many, many times I head down this path and the image just doesn't work so I go find another. Just as many times the whole thing gets shelved and I go do something else. Every so often, as the piece gets developed, I like what I see as was the case here with The Onlookers. All in all, I used four images and included a collage in the first comment.

The eight drowned horses are burried at the beginning of the Hollumer dunes, where the lifeboat pulled by 10 bridging horses is being pulled over the dunes.
The inscription on the tombstone reads:
The Windspiel 4 ran aground on August 14, 1979
At the launch of the lifeboat 8 horses drowned.
When the rescue station was alerted by a siren, many residents of the village of Hollum rushed to the beach to watch the performance of the horses and the crew of the lifeboat.
As a result, many where eyewitnesses to the catastrophe that unfolded before their very eyes.
The devastation was enormous and the images of the drowned horses could not be put out of their minds.
The horses are still honored and some lay flowers or oats there.
And every year the lifeboat, pulled by 10 powerful horses, thunders past the grave, on its way to the exercise......
It was cloudy all day, so gave up the idea of chasing a sunset at the beach. Realised about 30 minutes before sunset that it might just open up, and got there just in time. This is a location I shoot frequently, and the sun sets in the ideal position during the summer months at the N Westerly end of the beach.

I gave this shot from a previous visit to South Devon the nostalgic treatment as our aim to go back this year just didn't happen because of the severe weather conditions. I don't even know if the tractor was running but the tide was right in when we nipped over to Challaborough Bay and I was frozen anyway ......
Culzean Castle was constructed as an L-plan castle by order of the 10th Earl of Cassilis. He instructed the architect Robert Adam to rebuild a previous, but more basic, structure into a fine country house to be the seat of his earldom. The castle was built in stages between 1777 and 1792. It incorporates a large drum tower with a circular saloon inside (which overlooks the sea), a grand oval staircase and a suite of well-appointed apartments.
In 1945, the Kennedy family gave the castle and its grounds to the National Trust for Scotland (thus avoiding inheritance tax). In doing so, they stipulated that the apartment at the top of the castle be given to General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower in recognition of his role as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during the Second World War. The General first visited Culzean Castle in 1946 and stayed there four times, including once while President of the United States.

A big swell and a high tide gave some spectacular splashes over the rocky foreshore at the northern end of Cookies Beach at South Durras. I came home with wet shoes!
I gave Leo some feathers to play with and he was excited. He made clear that they were HIS feathers and didn't go anywhere without them which allowed me to take some cute photos. :)

The defused light gave nice light on these Flamingos. Cloudy a lot while I was in Africa. And, it rained off and on all the time. Only the day I was leaving one area to either fly or drive to another did the heavens clear. Go figure huh? I did not see as many of these guys as thought I might have..I think they are so gorgeous. Until this day I have never seen a Flamingo in the wild. Fact is, I’ve never seen most of the animals in Africa other than in our zoo. What an absolute treat this shoot was. I encourage anyone that never been to do so. It is amazingly stunning in every way. San Diego’s back country is incredibly similar to east Africa other than the animals obviously.

Looking south towards Seal Point at the end of the Kaikoura peninsula. The walk along the cliffs gave some fabulous views to the intriguing beach scape below.
This evening gave us our perfect conditions in Bodie State Historic Park: dramatic clouds in the sky when we first arrived, clearing over the Sierra Nevada for a colorful sunset, then the clouds parted and dissipated in time for aurora-like green airglow to appear along with the Milky Way.
Our next night photography workshop at our favorite local park (we've done over 50 nights now in Bodie over the past 10 years) will be June 21-25, 2022.
