De schubbige bundelzwam (Pholiota squarrosa)
Meestal wordt de schubbige bundelzwam aangetroffen van september tot november. Hij groeit in bundels op de wortels en aan de voet van loofbomen, minder vaak op naaldbomen. De zwam brengt veel schade toe aan fruitbomen. In Nederland is het een algemeen voorkomende soort in bossen, parken en plantsoenen.
De schubbige bundelzwam bevat een op het maag-darmstelsel werkend vergif: sesquiterpeen. Na koken zijn de hoeden wel eetbaar.

Usually the scaly bundle fungus is found from September to November. It grows in bundles on the roots and at the base of deciduous trees, less often on conifers. The fungus causes a lot of damage to fruit trees. In the Netherlands it is a common species in forests, parks and public gardens.
The scaly bundle fungus contains a poison that acts on the gastrointestinal tract: sesquiterpene. After cooking, the hats are edible.

Hello, dear friends!!! I'm back from my long vacation in Ecuador, a wonderful country with wonderful people and birds. Not easy to photograph there, birds are very shy and the light isn't always the best. I got a lot of foggy and rainy days, but, even so, I really enjoyed everything.
Well... maybe not everything. I had some gastrointestinal problems in the Amazon, and that was not nice, because during almost a week I wasn't able to eat and, practically, I only had tea and water, my camera seemed to weight the double... the good news are that I've lost three kilos, and I'm very happy with that! :)
I'm still feeling a little tired and slow, so, I hope that, in the next few days I will be able to catch up with all of you.
We had our carpets cleaned yesterday so all of Jasper's toys were stowed away for the day. Last night Jean got them all out again, but hid Jasper's Giggle Ball. But what do you know, he dug through his toys and found it. We really dislike this toy. It's hard as a rock and makes this awful gurgling noise reminiscent of extreme gastrointestinal distress. But he does like this toy and gets it out somewhat regularly. Somehow he can get it in his jaws. Every time we just pray he doesn't drop the thing on something valuable, like our toes. It's rock hard and heavy as a stone. We'll have to do better at hiding it 😉

A Google search says this is Pholiota squarrosoides, also known as Scaly Pholiota or Sharp-Scaly Pholiota, is generally considered inedible and can cause gastric upset. While some sources suggest it might be edible with caution or even considered choice by some mycologists, multiple mushroom identification websites and forums and mycological resources advise against eating it due to the potential for gastrointestinal issues. Additionally, it can be difficult to distinguish from the closely related Pholiota squarrosa (Shaggy Scalycap), which is known to be poisonous, especially when consumed with alcohol.

Marigold (Tagetes) is a genus of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the family Asteraceae. These plants are native to Mexico, growing naturally since Mexico's valley down to the south and even reaching several other Latinamerican countries, but some species have become naturalized around the world and they are grown as ornamental plants. The species Tagetes lucida is used to prepare a sweetish, anise-flavored medicinal tea in Mexico. It is also used as a culinary herb in many warm climates, as a substitute for tarragon. Tagetes minuta is also used as a medicinal tea for gastrointestinal complaints and specifically against nematodes. The marigold was regarded as the flower of the dead in pre-Hispanic Mexico and is still widely used in the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Aksamitka (Tagetes) – rodzaj roślin jednorocznych należący do rodziny astrowatych. Występuje naturalnie od klimatu tropikalnego do umiarkowanego w Ameryce oraz Afryce, największe zróżnicowanie osiągając na obszarze Meksyku. Niektóre gatunki są uprawiane jako rośliny ozdobne. Naziemne części rośliny bywają wykorzystywane do produkcji leków. Aksamitka jest stosowana w problemach układu pokarmowego oraz na kaszel i przeziębienie. Jadalne kwiaty stosuje się do sałatek i do ozdabiania potraw. Ponadto aksamitka lśniąca (Tagetes lucida) jest używany w kuchni jako substytut bardziej znanego estragonu. Olejek eteryczny z aksamitek wykorzystuje się w ogrodnictwie, gdyż ogranicza rozwój chwastów i odstrasza zapachem szkodniki glebowe. Podobne działanie ma sadzenie tej rośliny pomiędzy innymi uprawami.

Wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa) is an flowering plant in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, native to Europe. It is a herbaceous perennial plant growing about 10–20 centimetres (4–7,8 in) tall. Common in shady woods, where they often carpet large areas. The plants start blooming in early Spring, soon after the foliage emerges from the ground. The plant contains poisonous chemicals that are toxic to animals including humans, but it has also been used as a medicine. All parts of the plant contain protoanemonin, which can cause severe skin and gastrointestinal irritation, bitter taste and burning in the mouth and throat, mouth ulcers, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hematemesis.

Zawilec gajowy (Anemone nemorosa) – gatunek byliny należący do rodziny jaskrowatych. Występuje w Europie północnej i środkowej zaś poza granicami naturalnego zasięgu gatunek został zawleczony na Islandię oraz występuje jako zdziczały w Stanach Zjednoczonych i w Nowej Zelandii. Zawilce pojawiają się wczesną wiosną. Roślina osiąga wysokość wysokość 10–20 cm. Pospolicie występuje w lasach liściastych, mniej licznie w mieszanych i iglastych oraz w zaroślach. Jest rośliną trującą. W przeszłości był wykorzystywany w medycynie ludowej i weterynaryjnej. Świeże rośliny lub sok z nich stosowano do "wyciągania pęcherzy", przy bólu zębów, chorobach reumatycznych, do oczyszczania ran oraz w leczeniu zapalenia oskrzeli.

Gírgola d'olivera (Omphalotus olearius) Bolet tòxic, que pot produir forts trastorns gastrointestinals, que es manifesten amb vòmits, vertigen, dolors abdominals, pèrdua del coneixement i distensió muscular.
Té un barret de 4 a 12 cm, d'un bell color ataronjat, més aviat carnós, però molt prim cap al marge, que sol ser ondulat en els exemplars ben desenvolupats. De petit està tancat, però aviat s'obre i acaba en forma d'embut.
Les làmines són molt decurrents, fines i atapeïdes, i tenen una curiosa particularitat: són bioluminescents, és a dir, emeten una llum tènue, blanc-verdosa, visible en una habitació a les fosques. La intensitat de la llum no és sempre la mateixa, depèn de l'edat del bolet (els més joves són els més actius) i dels llocs on s'han collit. A Centreuropa, asseguren poder llegir un periòdic a la llum d'aquests bolets, la qual cosa no s'ha pogut corroborar mai amb les gírgoles d'olivera recollides a Catalunya.
Com en la majoria dels bolets que surten de soques en grups nombrosos, el peu sol ser tort i sovint no ix del bell mig del barret, sinó tirat cap a un cantó. Peu, làmines i barret són pràcticament del mateix color.
La carn és groga, la del peu més fosca, i fa una certa olor d'oli ranci.

Ayer fui con mi hija en busca de boletus, porque no distinguimos otras. Y no vimos mas que uno grandote y ya un poco pasado. Pero sí vimos otras setas. Ésta, por ejemplo: La Amanitas Muscaria, Su veneno tiene un efecto principalmente neurotóxico de consecuencias graves aunque no necesariamente mortales. Además, es tóxica para el intestino y el hígado, y tiene propiedades alucinógenas. Los síntomas que provoca son gastrointestinales (vómitos, cólicos, etc.) y se manifiestan unas dos horas despúes de su ingesta.

Yesterday I went with my daughter in search of mushrooms, because we do not distinguish others. And we did not see that one more big, and a little old. But we saw other mushrooms. TIdda gastrointestinal update:
Monday was a terrible day for Tidda with 10+ urgent trips outside, nausea, eating a ton of grass and vomiting it up later. She clearly felt very unwell.
So I withheld all food once more for 24 hours. Then, I tried a few tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin with a little rice and later rice and chicken. And she soon got better! I had also stopped the probiotics. In retrospect, it really seemed to me like it was the probiotics that had actually triggered the rapid escalation of things.
Since yesterday, she's been getting better pretty quickly, loving the boiled chicken, and today we had the long awaited vet visit. Both the vet tech and the vet were really wonderful and took a lot of time and it was a great informative visit! The vet was very sensitive with Tidda, who was a bit trembly at first. After a while, she was lying down and looking bored!
The vet thought it sounded most like a digestive tolerance issue since it did appear to be "diet responsive," so the first step should be the least invasive, which is just seeing if a different food will resolve the issue. So she is now on a special GI food (not cheap!) and seems to like it actually, together with her chicken and rice.
I raised the topic of homemade food and to my surprise the vet was open to it and even printed out some information and maybe I'll experiment a little in that direction later, once Tidda is solid and stable again.
As you see in this picture taken a few weeks ago, she had gotten a bit chubby (but in a cute way!). When she was found as a stray last summer, she weighed 45 pounds and looked emaciated. Today, after definitely losing weight through her illness, she weighed 54 pounds. I was shocked! She has been making up for lost time and I was feeding her a little too much!
There will probably be some more hiccups on the road to finding the right diet for her, but for the moment she is on the mend and I feel very positive and hopeful that I can manage it!

From Wikipedia: The saddleback caterpillar (Acharia stimulea, formerly Sibine stimulea) is the larva of a species of moth native to eastern North America. It is also found in Mexico. The species belongs to the family of slug caterpillars, Limacodidae.
The larva (caterpillar) is primarily green with brown at both ends and a prominent white-ringed brown dot in the center which resembles a saddle. It has a pair of fleshy horns at both ends. These and most of the rest of the body bear urticating hairs that secrete an irritating venom. Contact with the hairs causes a painful, swollen rash and sometimes nausea in humans. In some cases, more severe reactions to the venom can occur, including a systemic condition called erucism or acute urticaria, for which severe symptoms may include migraines, gastrointestinal symptoms, asthma complications, anaphylactic shock, rupturing of erythrocytes, and hemorrhaging. The hairs should be removed from the skin immediately to prevent more venom spread. The cocoon may also have irritating hairs, and hairs from the larva can fall on surrounding objects.
The larvae feed on a large variety of plants.
Several of these caterpillars were feeding on the leaves of some of our backyard pond plants.

Although some guidebooks list this species as edible, the genus is now regarded with suspicion by many. Research has established this species contains monomethylhydrazine, which can cause severe sporadic intoxications, and may be carcinogenic. It has been reported to cause gastrointestinal symptoms when eaten raw.
All Ranunculus species are poisonous when eaten fresh by cattle, horses, and other livestock, but their acrid taste and the blistering of the mouth caused by their poison means they are usually left uneaten. Poisoning can occur where buttercups are abundant in overgrazed fields where little other edible plant growth is left, and the animals eat them out of desperation. Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, excessive salivation, colic, and severe blistering of the mucous membranes and gastrointestinal tract. When Ranunculus plants are handled, naturally occurring ranunculin is broken down to form protoanemonin, which is known to cause contact dermatitis in humans and care should therefore be exercised in extensive handling of the plants

Walking up the hillside trails of the Limahuli Garden and Preserve, the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai, I came upon one of my favorite plants. The brightly colored Croton leaves are large and leathery.
It is a traditional medicinal plant in the region, its leaves and stem bark being used in the form of tea or pills for the treatment of diabetes, high blood cholesterol levels and gastrointestinal disturbances, as well as hepatic disturbances and weight loss.

Descripción:
El limonero es un árbol perteneciente a la familia de las rutáceas, muy conocido y apreciado en nuestro país. Principalmente se cultivan dos especies que se distinguen claramente por el sabor amargo o dulce: bien por la corteza, que en el amargo es más gruesa y rugosa y en el dulce es fina y lisa; bien por el tamaño, mayor en el amargo y menor en el dulce. En cualquier caso, todas nos brindan esos maravillosos frutos que son los limones, frutos oblongos con dos salientes en los extremos, de piel amarilla y esponjosa e interior carnoso y jugoso, dividido en varios gajos que son muy ácidos de sabor.
Aplicación:
En la corteza del fruto abunda la esencia de limón; aproximadamente se pueden obtener 3 g de esencia por cada kilo de limones. Esta esencia se compone de limoneno, felandreno, citral, citronelal y otras sustancias en proporciones menores. En el jugo de la pulpa de limón se encuentran cantidades muy altas de ácido cítrico. Se sabe que los limones alcanzan el máximo de acidez en otoño y que, luego, esa acidez va disminuyendo a medida que avanza el invierno y llega la primavera. En la pulpa también hallamos cantidades importantes de vitamina C, al igual que otras vitaminas. Contiene asimismo otros ácidos como el málico, flavonoides, pectinas y diversos azúcares.
Se considera un excelente antiescorbútico, que ya se empleaba empíricamente mucho antes de que se descubrieran las vitaminas. La esencia es antiséptica, carminativa y diurética, actividades que se ven reforzadas por la presencia de flavonoides que además ejercen una acción venotónica y vasoprotectora, controlando la permeabilidad de los vasos sanguíneos capilares y aumentando su resistencia a la rotura. La pectina, por su parte, tiene un efecto hemostático y protector de la mucosa gastrointestinal. Externamente actúa como antiséptico, cicatrizante, hidratante y demulcente. No obstante, hay que advertir que la esencia debe administrarse con precaución, sobre todo en niños, por la posibilidad de que aparezcan reacciones alérgicas.
Administración:
.- Esencia. Se puede administrar de dos a cinco gotas, dos veces al día, sobre un terrón de azúcar o en solución alcohólica.
.- Infusión. Se prepara a partir de la corteza de tres limones por litro de agua. Una vez hecha la infusión, se toman tres tazas al día, antes de las principales comidas.
.- Jugo de limón. Muy usado en la cocina. Su obtención es sencilla, bastando para ello con tener a mano un simple exprimidor. Dado que es tremendamente ácido, se recomienda añadir azúcar o cualquier otro edulcorante.
.- Colutorio. Se exprime el zumo de un limón en un vaso y se diluye con una cucharadita de agua templada. Con este líquido se realizan enjuagues varias veces al día.
Floración y recolección:
Como ya hemos comentado, se cultivan varias especies. Los frutos de algunas de ellas maduran de octubre a febrero; otros lo hacen durante la primavera y verano. De la recolección interesa todo el fruto, tanto el pericarpio como la pulpa. En cuanto a la forma de recolección y conservación, es sobradamente conocida por todos.

The glass frogs belong to the amphibian family Centrolenidae (order Anura). While the general background coloration of most glass frogs is primarily lime green, the abdominal skin of some members of this family is transparent and translucent, giving the glass frog its common name. The internal viscera, including the heart, liver, and gastrointestinal tract, are visible through the skin. When active their blood makes them visible; when sleeping most of the blood is concealed in the liver, hiding them. Glass frogs are arboreal, living mainly in trees, and only come out for mating season. Their transparency conceals them very effectively when sleeping on a green leaf, as they habitually do.
In unseren Wäldern breitet sie sich immer stärker aus, die Tollkirsche. Sie bevorzugt Buchenwälder und dort findet man sie seltsamerweise meistens an Wegrändern. Früher kam sie wegen ihrer halluzinogenen Wirkung in sogenannten "Hexensalben" zum Einsatz. Auch heute noch ist die Tollkirsche eine bedeutende Heilpflanze. Ihre etwas abgewandelten Inhaltsstoffe kommen bei Nieren,- Gallen,- und Magen-Darm Koliken zum Einsatz.
Deadly nightshade is becoming increasingly widespread in our forests. It prefers beech forests, where, strangely enough, it is most often found along roadsides. It was once used in so-called "witch's ointments" due to its hallucinogenic properties. Even today, deadly nightshade remains an important medicinal plant. Its slightly modified components are used to treat kidney, gallbladder, and gastrointestinal colic.

Tofu had to join his cousin Sethi for a vet visit today as he has been vomiting quite a lot lately. It's a well known issue at this time of year because he is shedding his winter coat and consequently swallowing a lot of hair which then gets stuck in his gastrointestinal tract. He now gets an antiemetic and a laxative. Luckily he is a better patient than Sethi.
Sethi's eye infection is getting better but we will have to continue the treatment with the eye ointment for a while. And he now has a diarrhea because of the antibiotics which needs to be treated too. They are keeping me busy ... :)

They are Saprotrophs (feeding off decaying matter) and appear in small tufts or large groups on dead/rotting wood (deciduous or coniferous), tree stumps or underground buried decaying wood or roots.
When in their prime, the convex cap has an amazing bright sulphur-yellow colour with darker orange tones towards the centre. Remnants of the pale yellow veil (initially covering the gills) can be found at the edge (margin). The stem, which is often curved, share a similar yellow-brown colour (sometimes greenish) though dirty brown towards the base with a fibrous appearance. The gills , when younger, appear green-yellow which act as a good indicator in identification.
They almost look good enough to eat (and do have that ‘mushroomy’ smell), but unfortunately are not edible and will most likely give you stomach ache, vomiting and similar gastrointestinal symptoms.

Mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell. Their main function is to generate the energy necessary to power cells. But, there is more to mitochondria than energy production.
Present in nearly all types of human cell, mitochondria are vital to our survival. They generate the majority of our adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of the cell.
Mitochondria are also involved in other tasks, such as signaling between cells and cell death, otherwise known as apoptosis.
In this article, we will look at how mitochondria work, what they look like, and explain what happens when they stop doing their job correctly.
The structure of mitochondria

Mitochondria are small, often between 0.75 and 3 micrometers and are not visible under the microscope unless they are stained.
Unlike other organelles (miniature organs within the cell), they have two membranes, an outer one and an inner one. Each membrane has different functions.
Mitochondria are split into different compartments or regions, each of which carries out distinct roles.
Some of the major regions include the:
Outer membrane: Small molecules can pass freely through the outer membrane. This outer portion includes proteins called porins, which form channels that allow proteins to cross. The outer membrane also hosts a number of enzymes with a wide variety of functions.
Intermembrane space: This is the area between the inner and outer membranes.
Inner membrane: This membrane holds proteins that have several roles. Because there are no porins in the inner membrane, it is impermeable to most molecules. Molecules can only cross the inner membrane in special membrane transporters. The inner membrane is where most ATP is created.
Cristae: These are the folds of the inner membrane. They increase the surface area of the membrane, therefore increasing the space available for chemical reactions.
Matrix: This is the space within the inner membrane. Containing hundreds of enzymes, it is important in the production of ATP. Mitochondrial DNA is housed here (see below).
Different cell types have different numbers of mitochondria. For instance, mature red blood cells have none at all, whereas liver cells can have more than 2,000. Cells with a high demand for energy tend to have greater numbers of mitochondria. Around 40 percent of the cytoplasm in heart muscle cells is taken up by mitochondria.
Although mitochondria are often drawn as oval-shaped organelles, they are constantly dividing (fission) and bonding together (fusion). So, in reality, these organelles are linked together in ever-changing networks.
Also, in sperm cells, the mitochondria are spiraled in the midpiece and provide energy for tail motion.
Mitochondrial DNA
Although most of our DNA is kept in the nucleus of each cell, mitochondria have their own set of DNA. Interestingly, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is more similar to bacterial DNA.
The mtDNA holds the instructions for a number of proteinsTrusted Source and other cellular support equipment across 37 genes.
The human genome stored in the nuclei of our cells contains around 3.3 billion base pairs, whereas mtDNA consists of less than 17,000Trusted Source.
During reproduction, half of a child’s DNA comes from their father and half from their mother. However, the child always receives their mtDNA from their mother. Because of this, mtDNA has proven very useful for tracing genetic lines.
For instance, mtDNA analyses have concluded that humans may have originated in Africa relatively recently, around 200,000 years ago, descended from a common ancestor, known as mitochondrial EveTrusted Source.
Mitochondria are important in a number of processes.
Although the best-known role of mitochondria is energy production, they carry out other important tasks as well.
In fact, only about 3 percent of the genes needed to make a mitochondrion go into its energy production equipment. The vast majority are involved in other jobs that are specific to the cell type where they are found.
Below, we cover a few of the roles of the mitochondria:
Producing energy
ATP, a complex organic chemical found in all forms of life, is often referred to as the molecular unit of currency because it powers metabolic processes. Most ATP is produced in mitochondria through a series of reactions, known as the citric acid cycle or the Krebs cycle.
Energy production mostly takes place on the folds or cristae of the inner membrane.
Mitochondria convert chemical energy from the food we eat into an energy form that the cell can use. This process is called oxidative phosphorylation.
The Krebs cycle produces a chemical called NADH. NADH is used by enzymes embedded in the cristae to produce ATP. In molecules of ATP, energy is stored in the form of chemical bonds. When these chemical bonds are broken, the energy can be used.
Cell death
Cell death, also called apoptosis, is an essential part of life. As cells become old or broken, they are cleared away and destroyed. Mitochondria help decide which cells are destroyed.
Mitochondria release cytochrome C, which activates caspase, one of the chief enzymes involved in destroying cells during apoptosis.
Because certain diseases, such as cancer, involve a breakdown in normal apoptosis, mitochondria are thought to play a role in the disease.
Storing calcium
Calcium is vital for a number of cellular processes. For instance, releasing calcium back into a cell can initiate the release of a neurotransmitter from a nerve cell or hormones from endocrine cells. Calcium is also necessary for muscle function, fertilization, and blood clotting, among other things.
Because calcium is so critical, the cell regulates it tightly. Mitochondria play a part in this by quickly absorbing calcium ions and holding them until they are needed.
Other roles for calcium in the cell include regulating cellular metabolism, steroid synthesis, and hormone signalingTrusted Source.
Heat production
When we are cold, we shiver to keep warm. But the body can also generate heat in other ways, one of which is by using a tissue called brown fat.
During a process called proton leakTrusted Source, mitochondria can generate heat. This is known as non-shivering thermogenesis. Brown fat is found at its highest levels in babies, when we are more susceptible to cold, and slowly levels reduce as we age.
Mitochondrial disease
If mitochondria do not function correctly, it can cause a range of medical problems.
The DNA within mitochondria is more susceptible to damage than the rest of the genome.
This is because free radicals, which can cause damage to DNA, are produced during ATP synthesis.
Also, mitochondria lack the same protective mechanisms found in the nucleus of the cell.
However, the majority of mitochondrial diseases are due to mutations in nuclear DNA that affect products that end up in the mitochondria. These mutations can either be inherited or spontaneous.
When mitochondria stop functioning, the cell they are in is starved of energy. So, depending on the type of cell, symptoms can vary widely. As a general rule, cells that need the largest amounts of energy, such as heart muscle cells and nerves, are affected the most by faulty mitochondria.

“Because mitochondria perform so many different functions in different tissues, there are literally hundreds of different mitochondrial diseases. […] Because of the complex interplay between the hundreds of genes and cells that must cooperate to keep our metabolic machinery running smoothly, it is a hallmark of mitochondrial diseases that identical mtDNA mutations may not produce identical diseases.”
Diseases that generate different symptoms but are due to the same mutation are referred to as genocopies.
Conversely, diseases that have the same symptoms but are caused by mutations in different genes are called phenocopies. An example of a phenocopy is Leigh syndrome, which can be caused by several different mutations.
Although symptoms of a mitochondrial disease vary greatly, they might include:
loss of muscle coordination and weakness
problems with vision or hearing
learning disabilities
heart, liver, or kidney disease
gastrointestinal problems
neurological problems, including dementia
Other conditions that are thought to involve some level of mitochondrial dysfunction, include:
Parkinson’s disease
Alzheimer’s disease
bipolar disorder
schizophrenia
chronic fatigue syndrome
Huntington’s disease

Mitochondria and aging
Over recent years, researchers have investigated a link between mitochondria dysfunction and aging. There are a number of theories surrounding aging, and the mitochondrial free radical theory of aging has become popular over the last decade or so.
The theory is that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced in mitochondria, as a byproduct of energy production. These highly charged particles damage DNA, fats, and proteins.
Because of the damage caused by ROS, the functional parts of mitochondria are damaged. When the mitochondria can no longer function so well, more ROS are produced, worsening the damage further.
Although correlations between mitochondrial activity and aging have been found, not all scientists have reached the same conclusions. Their exact role in the aging process is still unknown.
In a nutshell
Mitochondria are, quite possibly, the best-known organelle. And, although they are popularly referred to as the powerhouse of the cell, they carry out a wide range of actions that are much less known about. From calcium storage to heat generation, mitochondria are hugely important to our cells’ everyday functions.

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a species of shrub with edible fruit of blue color, more precisely called common bilberry or blue whortleberry. It is found natively in Europe, northern Asia, Greenland, Iceland, Western Canada, and the Western United States. It occurs in the wild on heathlands and acidic soils. Its berry has been long consumed in the Old World. It is related to the widely cultivated North American blueberry. The bilberry fruit is smaller than that of the blueberry and similar in taste. Bilberries are darker in colour, and usually appear near black with a slight shade of blue. While the blueberry's fruit pulp is light green, the bilberry's is red or purple, heavily staining the fingers and lips of consumers eating the raw fruit. Borówka czarna (Vaccinium myrtillus) – gatunek rośliny wieloletniej z rodziny wrzosowatych. Ma wiele nazw zwyczajowych, m.in. jagoda, czarna jagoda, czernica. Roślina jest szeroko rozprzestrzeniona w Azji, Europie i Ameryce Północnej na obszarach o klimacie umiarkowanym i arktycznym. W Polsce jest pospolita zarówno na nizinach, jak i w górach. Jest wykorzystywana szeroko jako roślina jadalna i lecznicza. Znaczenie gospodarcze borówki czarnej pozostaje wysokie mimo silnej konkurencji znacznie bardziej plennych borówek północnoamerykańskich, których owoce mają uboższy skład chemiczny od czernicy. «Colca sour» es la versión en Arequipa y en el Cañón del Colca del famoso «Pisco Sour». La diferencia es que en lugar de zumo de limón los lugareños utilizan el jugo del Sancayo, también llamado sanky, el fruto olvidado de los Incas. Es una fruta de cactus local de sabor agrio, que fue utilizada por los incas como supresor de hambre, reabastecedor y ayuda medicinal para reducir problemas asociados con el tracto gastrointestinal. Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a species of shrub with edible fruit of blue color, more precisely called common bilberry or blue whortleberry. It is found natively in Europe, northern Asia, Greenland, Iceland, Western Canada, and the Western United States. It occurs in the wild on heathlands and acidic soils. Its berry has been long consumed in the Old World. It is related to the widely cultivated North American blueberry. The bilberry fruit is smaller than that of the blueberry and similar in taste. Bilberries are darker in colour, and usually appear near black with a slight shade of blue. While the blueberry's fruit pulp is light green, the bilberry's is red or purple, heavily staining the fingers and lips of consumers eating the raw fruit. Vaccinium myrtillus fruits has been used for nearly 1,000 years in traditional European medicine for treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and diabetes. In cooking, the bilberry fruit is commonly used for the same purposes as the American blueberry such as pies, cakes, jams, muffins, cookies, sauces, syrups, juices, and candies.

Borówka czarna (Vaccinium myrtillus) – gatunek rośliny wieloletniej z rodziny wrzosowatych. Ma wiele nazw zwyczajowych, m.in. jagoda, czarna jagoda, czernica. Roślina jest szeroko rozprzestrzeniona w Azji, Europie i Ameryce Północnej na obszarach o klimacie umiarkowanym i arktycznym. W Polsce jest pospolita zarówno na nizinach, jak i w górach. Jest wykorzystywana szeroko jako roślina jadalna i lecznicza. Znaczenie gospodarcze borówki czarnej pozostaje wysokie mimo silnej konkurencji znacznie bardziej plennych borówek północnoamerykańskich, których owoce mają uboższy skład chemiczny od czernicy. Owoce borówki czarnej były od dawna bardzo istotne dla Słowian i ludów północnej Europy. Używano jej owoców jako lekarstwa przy biegunkach i krwawej dyzenterii. Zastosowanie takie utrzymało się w lecznictwie ludowym, przy czym często zalecano je także w większych dawkach przeciw owsikom. Ponadto owoce borówki czarnej oferowane i spożywane są w postaci świeżej, suszonej, mrożonej oraz jako składnik przetworów takich jak dżemy, ciasta, soki oraz ciekłe lub sproszkowane koncentraty, będące suplementem diety. Przetwory z jagód wyróżniają się długą trwałością.

We are NOT "post-pandemic" or "post-Covid" and I am sick of hearing this from main stream media, politicians and prominent businesses.
First, we cannot unilaterally declare that a pandemic is over due to the very nature of a pandemic.
Second, just looking at the month of JUNE to date, we have 10X the number of directly attributed Covid hospitalisations for 2022 than we did for the same period in 2021 or 2020.
Hospitalisations are rising 30-40% week on week at the moment. Why? We're facing a wave of Omicron BA.5 which is even more infectious than previous Omicron variants but, worryingly, doctors are reporting that it is infecting lower down into lung tissue as we saw with the Alpha wave. Secondary pneumonia is now a major issue again and hospitalisations are rising across ALL age groups. Omicron evades vaccine immunity and there is NO natural immunity to Omicron. People are being re-infected with Omicron with repeated infections reported as being worse and worse.
Ignoring the acute risks of Covid, of which there are many, there are now multiple wide ranging and conclusive studies by institutions such as Harvard that are showing that every single Covid infection, no matter how 'mild', is causing permanent internal damage.
Damage to the brain similar to that in Parkinson's Disease.
Damage to the pancreas causing onset of Diabetes.
Damage to lung tissue.
Damage to the gastrointestinal tract.
Damage to cardiovascular endothelium and clotting factors resulting in a 3X increased risk in heart attacks, strokes and pulmonary emboli for at least 6 months post-acute infection.
More importantly, it is causing degradation of your immunity. SARS2 causes reduction in your immunity and damage to T-cells similar to that of HIV, leaving you wide open to opportunistic infections that you would be unable to fight.
SARS2 infection prematurely ages you! Telomeres are the end protections of our chromosomes that you can think of as being similar to the end plastic pieces of a shoelace. These gradually degrade over our lifetimes as part of the ageing process. It is a known quantity and studies have shown that even mild infections of Covid are causing damage to the telomeres of our chromosomes equivalent to 10 years of biological ageing.
Early in the Covid story some people openly called it 'airborne AIDS' because some of the genetic code of the virus is identical to HIV. It may have been tongue-in-cheek at the time but Covid is causing this kind of damage.
Ask yourself why we have rising infectious diseases such as viral hepatitis in children, monkeypox and polio to name a few. We have a massive population with post-Covid immune deficiency.
Even the Bank of England has reported that we are facing a collapse of economy with increasing rates of 'long Covid' affecting the workforce.
All of this information is easy to find in peer reviewed medial journals at revered institutions such as Harvard or in The Lancet. SARS2, as it's predecessor SARS, is a multi-system disease spread by microscopic airborne aerosols.
Keep yourself safe because your government does not care about you.
Protection is not rocket science. Mask in poorly ventilated places and when indoors with an FFP2/3 well fitting mask. Open windows for ventilation and demand that workplaces and public facilities install suitable HEPA filtration. Washing your hands helps against many diseases but it will not stop you from catching Covid.
