I came across this abandoned gas station in Porter Michigan, the town closed up back in 1907, I was told at one point this little store was called Polly’s…..wonder what the gas price was!
What used to be
stares blankly back
and becomes all that I see
What once was here
now lives in my memory
retrieved from blurred years
All of our todays
become what used to be
when the present is unable to stay

My imagination creates a scenario: A long time ago in the very small town of New Hebron MS. A couple stops for gas and admiring the beauty of this unknown little town, decide to stay and make a life here. Their car still sits at the gas pump almost 70 years later. (Remember this is only my imagination)
New Hebron is a real town in Mississippi, population 543. The town is 427 acres. I lived there many years ago for 8 months and had to move away because I am a city person and could not adapt to the slow, almost perfect life there.
Raton, New Mexico
Thanks to my friend Oldogs who was touring me through old town Raton, I was able to snap a quick shot of this classic station just before the sun went behind the mountains.
Let’s go back…not necessarily back to Demorest, Georgia, where I spotted this old building, but back to a summer of long ago. Maybe a place where you found some penny candy while your mom picked up a few things…maybe where you waited in a hot car, windows open, a wasp on the windshield, while a teenager from high school filled up the gas tank. Maybe you were dreaming of cooling off later in the crick with a few friends. Maybe.

The only good thing is the hint that smoking is prohibited. Pay attention to your health and the climate.
This is NOT an advertisement!
this is located on highway 6 between Guelph and Hamilton. I like seeing a good old truck.

I posted an earlier version of this relic a week or two ago. The Alsupps station in that photo is to the right of this image. Highway 287 through town is super busy and loud with truck traffic. Hence, the road damage shown at the bottom of this photo. I ran across the street and quickly took this photo from a very busy truck stop directly across from this old gas station.
This little abandoned rural combo filling station/pit stop is actually several miles east of Las Vegas on NM-104. It originally sold Gulf No-Nox gasoline then switched to Texaco. You can still see the Texaco stickers on the pumps. Just below the roof line they advertised beer, soda, coffee, candy, chips, cigarettes and maps.
The Lewis Brothers (Grocery) Store was built in 1933. They expanded their product line and began selling Gulf gasoline in 1941 until the late 1980s. Today the building houses a successful antique store which is open Thurs. - Sunday. The owner of the business lives in Pipe Creek, and being quite knowledgeable of the local history, decided to keep the Lewis Bros. Store name. Located on State Highway 16S. Pipe Creek, Texas.
A restored former Shell station along state highway 18, Wawpecong, Indiana. (historical spelling is Waupecong).
The Marquardt Garage was established in 1942 by Erich Marquardt. It closed permanently in January of 2019.
Slight reflection from my window that I did not have time to roll down. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Something short and sweet and new from me.
Historic, retro service station ( Old school mechanics )

Marine Garage has been a long time fixture on Moncton Street in Steveston. While the pumps remain, today it is solely a mechanics garage under the name of Seppo's Automotive.
Marine Garage is an Art Deco style building that has a long history in providing fuel and service to Steveston's residents. It originally opened as Walker's Emporium in the early 1900s and was one of the few buildings that survived the fire of 1918 (City of Richmond Archives)
