It is a form of psychological manipulation and abuse. The goal of gaslighting is to foster and grow seeds of doubt in a person, making them question their own reality, memory, judgement, and perception. It has a high impact on someone's mental health and self-esteem.
The goal of gaslighting is to gain control over another person by making them doubt themselves and their perception of reality.
When gaslighting someone, an abuser will make them feel like they can’t trust themselves.
Anyone can be a victim of gaslighting. It’s commonly used by abusers, dictators, and cult leaders in order to gain control or power over a person or group of people. It can also happen between family members.
While not every abuser who gaslights is a narcissist, sociopath or have another personality disorder, these folks tend to use gaslighting as way to get their own way. Gaslighting starts when there is an imbalance in the power dynamics between the individuals – because like all forms of abuse, gaslighting is about power and control.

Nick's Gaslight is a classic and much-loved local spot in Detroit, known for its traditional, cozy dive bar atmosphere. It is located in the Midtown district, near the Wayne State University campus.
Atmosphere: The bar has a warm, dark, and historic feel, which stands in contrast to many of the newer, modern venues that have opened in Midtown. It has maintained its appearance and traditional bar character over the decades.
Community Function: It has long served as a popular gathering place for Wayne State University students, local artists, and neighbourhood residents looking for a no-frills place to have a drink.
Offerings: It focuses on basic drinks and beers, often at affordable prices.
Significance: Nick's Gaslight is considered one of the most authentic remaining drinking institutions in Detroit, cherished for its unpretentious vibe and genuine character.

Narrow Lane is a footpath running around the backs of the houses from Riviera Crescent to Seymour Road, Staple Hill ...a suburb of Bristol but administratively just outside the city in Gloucestershire. I find there is a mysterious poetry about such places. This is the land of creosote and pebbledash, of garages and garden sheds, of brambles growing through shattered palings, of caterpillars and cuckoo-spit.
Just out of sight the lane turns a corner and runs along the top of a railway embankment. When I was a boy there would be a rumble, a sudden eruption of steam among the houses and a piercing whistle as a train plunged into the nearby tunnel. The other end came out in Staple Hill Station.
On Thursday 14th March 1974, the lane was still lighted by gas. The lanterns have been caged within vandal-proof mesh screens. It is no longer worthwhile to employ lamplighters for the small number of lamps remaining, so the lights are left burning around the clock. The cast-iron brackets against which the maintenance man propped his ladder have been hacksawed off. The lamps were locally produced, by Douglas's in Kingswood. Ford Prefect and Mk II Cortina on the right I think. It is late afternoon, after school, and the paper boy is on his round, delivering that evening's issue of the Bristol Evening Post.
