While we are outside doing some fall yardwork, this beauty was enjoying the sun! The Garter Snake was sunning itself in the morning sun. The Juniper was a little wet with rain the night before, so the Snake was very cooperative. I even had time to put my macro lens on, and the Snake was still there when I got back. Photo taken in our backyard in Camas, Washington.

This garter snake was sunning itself and I wanted to get a shot of him with his tongue out. I had myself in an odd position and he was not going for it so I got the shot without, lol.
I was working in our backyard yesterday, pulling weeds and getting ready for my Spring planting. I noticed, this beautiful Northwestern Garter Snake basking in the sun. He decided to move to the river rocks by our fence, and spent his afternoon sunbathing.

This little Garter Snake stayed quite a while and didn't slither off on me until I had taken quite a few photos. This little guy was pretty small, so I was happy he didn't move.

This pretty Gartered Trogon was seen on a trail at Suital Lodge in Costa Rica. I didn't do a lot of birding on this trip and I think this might be the only Trogon I saw the whole time.
I'm fairly sure after looking at dozens of different types of Garter snakes & still not finding this exact pattern that it is a Garter as there were a couple of close looking patterns.

The Gartered Trogon (Trogon caligatus) was formerly known as the Violaceous Trogon. There are ten species of Trogonidae found in Costa Rica; the Gartered Trogon is the most widely distributed.
This Gartered Trogon was from our visit to Costa Rica last month. It was another case of stopping along the road to try to photograph a bird that ended up not cooperating and stumbling on something even better. It is little surprises like this that make these trips so much fun.
