Lüftlmalerei is a traditional form of mural art, found in Upper Bavaria (=southern Bavaria) and in Tyrol in Austria.
Traditionally the paint was applied in fresco technique onto the fresh, still wet, lime plaster, which resulted in the pigments being absorbed into the plaster and fixated during the chemical setting of the plaster. Thus these old paintings became very durable.
Nowadays mostly modern weather resistent paint materials are used.
