As we approached Grand Junction, a series of mountain ranges with interesting rock formations appeared on our right hand side along I-70.
My "Beautiful Scenery But No place To Pull Over to Photograph Syndrome" immediately kicked up a notch and a half!
Oh wow, how lucky as we exited the highway for food, a service road allowed us to pull over and me to take a few images of this remarkable mountain peak along with a dramatic looking sky (it was a bit windy and drizzling), all from the comfort of the passenger seat!
Hmmm, should we do a hike up to this peak instead of one in Colorado National Monument?
A quick Google Map lookup gave me the answer: "The best training in town, hands down. The incline sections are nasty and are perfect for mountain training. Very steep and you definitely want to mind your footing to not take a long tumble on the way down." 😱😱😱
For the inquiring minds:
"One of the main geological features of the Grand Valley is the Bookcliffs, a dirt-covered mountain range extending 200 miles, beginning where the Colorado River flows through DeBeque Canyon near Palisade, all the way to Price Canyon, which is near Helper, Utah.
The most noticeable landmark of this range is Mount Garfield, which is only a two-mile hike up, but the elevation change is 2,000 feet, making it a very challenging climb. The crusty dirt on the trail can be slick at times, so hiking poles are recommended, especially on the way down."
I wish you a wonderful weekend!
Mt. Garfield is the high point of the Book Cliffs, east-northeast of Grand Junction, Colorado, and overlooking the town of Palisade. The mountain was named after President James Garfield's death.

If you are in the Los Angeles area, check out cat café Crumbs & Whiskers. It's a great place to spend a half hour petting and playing with cats and all cats are adoptable. I used to have an orange stripey cat who was super feisty named Dr. Pirate and so I am always a little timid around them but Garfield was super sweet and loving. He would make a great pet cat! Go check them out today!

Auf einer Wanderung in Chinque Terre blieb er unbeeindruckt in einer kleinen Gasse liegen - sein Blick - schon fast ein wenig furchterregend! :)
on a hiking-tour in chinque terre - please, looking at this view - it was a little bit fearsome for us! :)

Mount Garfield is found just to the north and east of Grand Junction Colorado. It is the eastern most major peak in the Bookcliff Mountains, the Bookcliffs are an older range of mountains that run mostly east to west.
The Warner Local waits in the Rio Tinto interchange yard while the ISCLB 01 blasts by on Main 2 at Center Garfield, Utah on Oct. 1, 2015. In an interesting twist, the ISCLB (Intermodal, Salt Lake City-Long Beach) train was upgraded to Z-train status when Precision Scheduled Railroading was adopted in 2019.

Thanks for your visits, faves and comments..(c)rebfoto
I like Garfield very much, so funny ;-D. What do you think: "Is this a lookalike?"
He is a bit sad, don't know why......
Thank you very much for your visit. Any comment (I read them all ;-)) or fave that you may leave is very appreciated.
Train #1875 departs Garfield, New Jersey on the Bergen County Line behind the honorary #4109, one of thirteen GP40Ps built for the CNJ in 1968 with NJDOT money and now beautifully restored to its CNJ livery. The spur on the right was part of the Erie's Dundee Branch which, in its last years, was operated by the ill-fated New York and Greenwood Lake.
Almost 17 years old, he doesn't have a single tooth left, and at the moment he's not in very good shape.
This is my daughter's cat; he immigrated with her to London and will end his life there.
When I'm photographing grain elevators on the Canadian Prairies, I never photograph modern elevators, much preferring the small, old, weathered wooden ones. On this trip to Colorado and Kansas, though, there was something about the weathered concrete elevators that attracted me and I photographed them quite a bit. Maybe it's because there the concrete elevators can be 80 or more years old. Here's the statuesque beauty in Garfield.

This trip to eastern Colorado and Kansas was a substitute (lemonade from lemons, if you will) for a storm chasing trip that same week that got cancelled. It turned out to be a lovely little trip. If you'd like to read about the trip and see some behind the scenes pics and video, take a look at my blog post about the Lemonade from Lemons tour. You can see all the images from the trip in my Colorado and Kansas album.
