I did mean Sycamore Gap but that's what I typed without thinking lol.

Having looked at this image again on Flickr it seems I have over sharpened it.

Today I had my first hike of the year in the Mournes and it was fabulous but very cold, with a bitter wind. My border collie Pippin enjoyed it too. This is the view to one of my favourite mountains, Slieve Bearneagh. Slieve is Irish for mountain, btw.

The Mourne Wall stretches along the tops of the hills and down to Hare's Gap, where I was headed - it's the dip before Bearnagh. I'll be posting a few from this hike. I took a couple of timelapses, which are a bit painful in winter as you're sitting around for a while. I kept Pippin busy by sharing my chicken sandwiches with him.

Sycamore Gap, a section of the wall between two crests just east of Milecastle 39, is locally known as the "Robin Hood Tree"

I was lucky enough to catch a clear night, first one iin a while!!

I nearly didn't take this image. It had been a long time since I'd got up to take the sunrise, hours had passed, I was cold, my knees ached and I was so ready to go home. I almost packed the camera away thinking there would be nothing to capture once I was beyond the gap between the trees, the homeward straight. Luckily I didn't and went to have a closer look at the old willow tree which was split by lightning a couple of years back. This was just a small part of the huge tree that once stood here, in its own natural hollow. The sculpture of the stump and the soft lines of the snow just begged to be taken together so I took a few shots and was really happy with how they turned out. This is the first one.

After a day on the lake at Blessington I took the scenic route home last night back across the Wicklow Gap and down toward Laragh before hitting the N11 back home to Rosslare. Beautiful evening for the drive with a few stops along the way.

Series of five. Awoke to thick fog this morning and chose the only area that did not clear until midday! Certainly the cliffs were interesting with the edge disappearing into the mist! Very eerie! I haven't seen a Whitethroat since last year, so nice to see this very obliging one this morning.

The Delaware River runs through a gap in the mountains that gives the region its name. Taken from ~400 feet over the river with my new camera drone.

Flickr is a great way of bridging the gap between people and distant places.

Thank you all for your continued comments and interest in my world.

The famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrians Wall. This tree most famously was in Robin Hood:Prince of thieves.

This is taken from the other side of the usual photograph to make use of the wonderful golden hour light.

The River Loe that joins up all the lakes in the "Gap". Taken on a damp overcast day.

EV +1, to make this view brighter, as for some reason the camera wanted this to be darker.

Yesterday there was a cliff fall by the steps and now they and the beach are out of bounds.

The Thredo River, Snowy Mountains, running down to Dead Horse Gap. Image taken on Photo workshop with Brett Wood and Lisa Milne. It was first afternoon in the Snowy and just on cue it started to snow. Delightful.

We went to the Delaware Water Gap on Monday. I took my camera and didn't like the color of my photos so I set my AWB to "Cloudy" and it turned everything brownish which wasn't the true color but it ended up making a pretty image.

This was our first location Aurora hunting. The weather was bad but we waited at Uttakleiv Beach, hoping for a break in the sky. We knew the Aurora was above us because occasionally through the small gaps in the clouds we could see bright green.

This was my first glimpse of the Northern Lights. Persistence paid off as the clouds parted and we scurried down to the rocks to capture the lights over Uttakleiv. It was difficult to juggle both the job at hand, but also take some moments to appreciate the beauty of something I had never witnessed before.

These beach huts on Brighton seafront are usually photographed from the front to show off their colourful doors. The background is far cleaner when shot from behind.

MUDE, the Museum of Design and Fashion in Lisbon, had a lot of interesting exhibits, and apparently inhabits a building originally designed for some vary different purpose, perhaps retail. Most of the interior has been stripped down to bare, stressed brick & concrete walls & floors, although there are wonderful polished stone counters on a couple of floors.

Lots of opportunities for urban abstracts, like this gap in an interior wall.

A gap in the clouds reveals the last of the evening sun igniting this mountain near Chamonix, France.

Rushed to get the shot using Canon 5dMk3 70-200 + 2x extender and tripod. Unfortunately I forgot to check the IS was turned off. That along with this being quite a heavy crop means IQ is not all it could be. Nevertneless glad I managed to get a few shots off before the moment passed.

Just back from a great holiday with the family touring quickly through France then on to Verona and Venice, followed by my first visit to the Dolomites and home via Germany. Should have one or two other pics to post!

Hope all of you are having an enjoyable summer.

Sorry about the long 'gap' in uploading! Between work, college, travel and everything else, I haven't found the time.
