Series of three. Birling Gap suffers from severe erosion of the soft chalk cliffs. Walkers risk their lives standing near the edge not realising the danger, despite signs. The latest landslip occurred at New Year. An old photo form 1908 shows how much erosion has happened over the years. The coastguard cottages are now down to three and used to be eight and well away from the edge. It won't be long before another is demolished.
I was out for a walk and ran across this gap and thought it would make a good Fenced Friday shot 😊
Flickr is a great way of bridging the gap between people and distant places.
Thank you all for your continued comments and interest in my world.
Seriously DARK
The Cumberland Gap includes this gem, the Gap Cave. Many may know it by its older name Cudjo's Caverns. It was once Gap cave but was chanced to Cudjo's Caverns after a popular book came out that features a cave called Cudjos. The owners tried to capitalize on the popularity by changing the name. When the NPS took over the site they changed it back. It hard to believe the cave looks as good as it does inside when you learn the past. Loads of tourists through here at a time when preservation was not understood, and they held parties and even plays down there!
This is one of the larger features in the cave. It was a pain to shoot because you were on a tour, so you can't stop, there is no lighting, only these massive bright flashlights that EVERYONE has, and the tour guide is always in the way. Oh, and no tripods allowed. So this is the result of several images to exclude beams of light and hot spots, and people. Oh, and thank goodness for the new lightroom denoise feature. This was 10,000 ISO for goodness sake. Came out pretty good considering all that nonsense.
Let me know what you think.
Compositionally Challenged
Most Versatile: January - EV settings (10/10)
EV +1, to make this view brighter, as for some reason the camera wanted this to be darker.
Yesterday there was a cliff fall by the steps and now they and the beach are out of bounds.
MUDE, the Museum of Design and Fashion in Lisbon, had a lot of interesting exhibits, and apparently inhabits a building originally designed for some vary different purpose, perhaps retail. Most of the interior has been stripped down to bare, stressed brick & concrete walls & floors, although there are wonderful polished stone counters on a couple of floors.
Lots of opportunities for urban abstracts, like this gap in an interior wall.

We finished early the other day and I was able to grab a photo on my way home, Looking directly behind me, from where I took this, the weather was stormy and the sky was full of dark clouds. This was before it took over the other half of the park.
CPL used.

I took this sometime last week. I forced myself out after work.
Since I have been playing around with props recently, I went to Gap Lake solely to stage a zombie apocalypse... That is, until I saw this crack in the ice... And then I was all about using it as a leading line haha.
Had a little potter along the beach at Birling Gap ... with the Fisheye, which isn't ideal for wildlife photography :))
Eastbound CPKC 200 passes by a choppy Gap Lake, just east of Gap, Alberta on their way towards Calgary.
After a five year gap the annual Classic and American car show returned to the City of Wakefields calendar. I have learnt over the years to make my way to such events before the start time. That way I can take photos of the vehicles whilst they are on the road rather than on show and cluttered with all number of the public spectators.
This particular photo catches a couple of rather fine Ford Mustangs from 1968 and 1967 respectively. They are queuing for entry to the event at the bottom of Northgate.
Catawba Overlook
Dick Gap
Big South Fork National Recreation Area
Kentucky
The early morning fog had finally decided to burn off. After arriving at the Dick Gap Overlook at 7 a.m. waiting for sunrise, fog had enshrouded the whole area. After waiting for an hour and a half with still no fog lifting we headed out to the Jeep where we decided to offroad to a junction that took you to a wet weather falls called Dick Gap Falls and the Catawba Overlook. The jeep got stuck and it took us about an hour to unstuck it. So we took the Jeep back to the parking lot and then we hiked to Catawba overlook and we arrived just as the fog was lifting. The Catawba overlook not only overlooks Dick Gap but you can also see old mining bridge of The Blue Heron Mining Community. BTW if you decide to hike to Dick Gap Falls be sure there's been plenty of rain.
