These two Belted Galloway bulls were trying to impress the heifers this morning. The heifers left the rivals to get on with it.

Corsewall Lighthouse.

A beautiful day on The Rhins of Galloway, close to the mouth of Loch Ryan - where ferries leave Scotland bound for Northern Ireland.

The Lighthouse is on the northernmost tip of the Peninsula and, here, across Southern Firth of Clyde, is The Kintyre Peninsula.

The lighthouse was built in 1814, and is now automated and, since 1994, it has also been a hotel.

Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland

it's getting cold outside, but these guys don't worry about it

Still loads of Siskin visiting the garden in late May. This fine male was in the Rowan tree in April along with Goldfinches and the odd Redpoll.

Thank you very much for all your faves and I will react on your given comments as soon as possible

The Galloway is one of the oldest and purest of our native cattle breeds. They are famed for their hardiness and can live off the poorest of land. The Galloway female is the ideal suckler cow, and will produce an excellent beefy calf, which is in great demand by people wanting highest quality, natural grown beef. (The Galloway Cattle Society). I took this shot as the sun came up on a cold morning in early January This area of Scotland is not in the Highlands but it is really beautiful.

Galloway cattle have been introduced to graze on the open parts of the Doeveren nature reserve. They are not fenced in - walkers are supposed to keep a sensible distance :-)

Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin has many historical houses. This unique house has shingles, and several designed balconies. The house was said to have been built in 1809 and still stands for all to enjoy the fine architectural design

My second favourite cow. I am assumong that this is a Belted Gallowat, even though the white stripe was on only one side of it's body. I saw three in the same field, all with the same markings. So unusual. Taken on the way to Otterburn in Northumberland.

Driving round a corner, I snapped a few times and managed this image. South West Scotland is a ruggedly beautiful place.

This shot was taken on the kite trail in Galloway. Not very good shot but I was shooting against the light. I does shows how well the red kites are doing in Southern Scotland where they have been recently reintroduced.

Designed by David A Stevenson and first lit in 1900.

On 26th February 1982, the container ship Craigantlet ran around just below the lighthouse. It was carrying hazardous chemicals and the lighthouse had to be evacuated for several weeks until the area was made safe.

The lighthouse was automated in 1988 and discontinued in 2007. It is now privately owned.
