This is a view of the stained-glass center and cupola at the top of the massive glass and steel dome in the Galeries Lafayette. The Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris is at the center of the main shopping district in the 9th arrondissement. This is the flagship store for the Galeries Lafayette, an upmarket French department store chain, the biggest in Europe. It operates a number of stores across France and other countries. This store was designed in the then popular art nouveau style by the architect Georges Chedanne and his pupil Ferdinand Chanut; it was finished in 1912.

A couple more from Berlin
Galeries Lafayette in Berlin is a branch of the luxurious Parisian department store. I am not sure the purpose of this glass cone other than to attract curiosity - the picture whilst crazy busy is not even close to what it looks to the eye.
Unlike many of the department stores in the UK, the security guys here seemed really cool about us taking photos and we even kind enough to help with directions to another location.
Have a great weekend folks. :-)

ENG: The Galeries Lafayette Berlin is a department store in Berlin's Friedrichstrasse (Mitte district). The Quartier 206 Art & Fashion House opened in 1997 and has around 8,000 m² of retail space and 16,000 m² of office space.
The "Art & Fashion House" Quartier 206 forms the centre of Friedrichstadt Passagen on Berlin's Friedrichstrasse. The department store is connected to the Galeries Lafayette Berlin in the north and Quartier 205 in the south by a tunnel. It opened in 1997. The façade is designed in an Art Deco style. The architect was Henry N. Cobb of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners of New York. The client was the Jagdfeld family.
After a few years, the commercial property got into economic difficulties: in 2011, the Mitte District Court ordered receivership; in 2012 and again in 2018 there was the threat of foreclosure. Tenants such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton had not renewed their leases.
I photographed the whole thing from the top floor at the MeoClinic.

The Galeries Lafayette is an upmarket French department store located on Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. The flagship store in Paris, one of France's oldest department stores, is remarkable for its Art Nouveau architecture.
