The Board of Supervisors recognized Visit Fairfax and WHITE for the success of the "Historical Figures" campaign.
As we continue to celebrate Black History Month together, we want to share another story that makes the Fairfax County Police Department great. We are a diverse agency, and we proudly serve a diverse community. The diversity of our sworn and professional staff contributes to FCPD’s mission & makes a difference in our community.
Officer Richard Harris was born and raised in New York. He grew up in Uniondale and saw football as a great opportunity in life. Richard attended Dean College and got his associate degree in criminal justice then went to Delaware State University where he got his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Richard Harris played football at both schools and had an amazing career, but he knew he wanted to do more. Richard comes from a family with a law enforcement background with his uncle being a current NYPD officer, his aunt a judge, and his grandfather who retired from the NYPD and the FBI. Richard always knew he wanted to help people and after hearing great things about the FCPD, he joined our ranks in 2022.

Officer Dianna Agyeman was born and raised in Fairfax County. Her family came to the U.S. from Ghana, a small country in West Africa, in hopes of giving their children more opportunities. After her first year at Radford University, Dianna transferred to Old Dominion University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Cyber Security. Dianna is a first-generation college student and graduate which made her parents very proud. After college, Dianna took a year off before deciding to join the Fairfax County Police Department. Growing up in Fairfax County she knew she wanted to give back to the community that helped shape her into the person that she is today. Be YOU and be FCPD. Meet the Byersons!
Master Police Officers Brian and Victoria Byerson were both born and raised in the Midwest. Brian is from Lacrosse, Wisconsin and Victoria is from Detroit, Michigan. Shortly after high school, Victoria decided to join the U.S. Army and served as a Military Police Officer. Brian chose the U.S. Marine Corps and he too served as a Military Police Officer.
After completing her tour in the Army, Victoria started her career with the Fairfax County Police Department graduating in the 45th session of our police academy. Following the Marine Corps, Brian started his career with the FCPD graduating in the very next police academy session.
Brian and Victoria’s paths crossed at the Mason District Station in 2004 where they worked the same patrol area on different shifts, and their life together began. They have a 19-year-old son who is in college, focusing on wrestling and keeping his grades high.
The Byersons feel being married to another officer is both rewarding and challenging. They are grateful to be sources of comfort and counsel to one another, as they work hard to keep our community safe. They don’t hold back on having difficult conversations, and they lean on each other when times are tough.
Brian is currently assigned to the Major Crimes Bureau and is the senior Homicide Squad detective, and Victoria is the senior sworn detective in the Applicant Section of the Personnel Resources Section.
The Byersons are grateful they met through our department and built their life together here.
