This photo was taken on Saturday September 8,2007. This photo was taken after the Fuzz's first ever visit to a vet. He had got 2 shots and since we had taken him to the vet near me in Wickliffe. We took him to the Petsmart in Willoughby and then stoppped at my house and he visited with my mom and then we tried to see what he would do when we put him in the Ginkgo tree in the front yard.
This little Apis is likely a long-distance nomad, housed and transported for human agriculture. These thistle plants were right in the vicinity of some hive boxes outside of Freiburg im Breisgau, direction of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest). This region is known for its cherry trees, so the bees have their work cut out for them.
Germany was the first place to report Colony Collapse Disorder in Europe. 40% of German honeybee colonies died that year, although in the typical mysterious way of CCD the cases were never fully understood. Germany is therefore naturally taking the lead in some of the CCD antifungal research. The developed treatment has had some success, but is only effective in treating some suffering hives.
The autofocus on my Canon compact clearly couldn't decide on the focal point of this scene - I quite like this photo anyway, showing rush hour on the eastern approaches to London Bridge.
Goslings were wandering around Beebe Lake in May, but my picture-taking didn't make the parent geese happy...
