Dan Patch (aka "Patch")
September 15, 2004 - October 26, 2020
Patch was born in one of the out buildings at Continental Machines, a large factory in Savage, Minnesota. I worked there at the time, and a few of us monitored and cared for the feral litter of kittens.
I had a different kitten all picked out until the day we gave them away. That choice changed when I picked up this fuzzy little peanut boy and he just nestled down in my arms and purred.
That night, the little guy slept in the crook of my arm, and 16 years later, he was still sleeping there every night that I was home.
Another male cat that we had, Ringer, took him in as a kitten, snuggling with him, and keeping him clean (as Ringer's dad, Reebok, also did). We had to bottle-feed Patch for a couple of weeks. I'm sure if Ringer could have done that, too, he would have.
Patch was so laid back and affectionate, thanks to his "Uncle" Ringer. He carried on in our line of male caretaker cats, taking care of kittens, the other cats we had, and even our wiener dogs. Of course, he took good care of his mom, too.
He'd had an upper respiratory problem for years, but in the last few months it got progressively worse and worse. Late last weekend, the congestion had gotten to a point where he had difficulty breathing. I had to make the choice to do the unthinkable.
I still have a wiener dog and other cats right now. If it wasn't for them, I don't know how I'd get through this. Patch was my soulmate. My house feels so incomplete now.
RIP my Fuzzy Boy.
Side Bar: Why was his name Dan Patch? Continental Machines (where he was born) was right across the highway from the former site of the International Stock Food Company farm where M.W. Savage kept his world famous pacing horse, Dan Patch. This horse paced the mile in 1:55 in 1906. That time wasn't equaled until the 1920's and wasn't bettered until the almost 1960.
Happy Macro Monday!
Back from my vacation and will try and catch up.
Important:
I will be on and off over the next few weeks. I am in process of selling my house and waiting for one to be built so have to arrange moving and temporary housing - which will occupy a lot of my time.
This baby with the fuzzy face is the tiniest of the deer visiting us this year. She is so curious; always looking in the windows for our cats. The other day, she had a confrontation with a stick frozen in the ice. I think she thought it was a snake.
Ich liebe diese feinen Härchen an den frischen Blättern der Buchen. Habt ihr sie schon mal bemerkt?
I like the these fine hairs on the fresh leaves of beech trees. Did you ever notice them?

Canada Goose Gosling. View Large On Black By the early 20th century, over-hunting and loss of habitat in the late 1800s and early 1900s had resulted in a serious decline in the numbers of this bird in its native range. The Giant Canada Goose subspecies was believed to be extinct in the 1950s until, in 1962, a small flock was discovered wintering in Rochester, Minnesota, In recent years, Canada Geese populations in some areas have grown substantially, so much so that many consider them pests (for their droppings, the bacteria in their droppings, noise and confrontational behavior). This problem is partially due to the removal of natural predators and an abundance of safe, man-made bodies of water (such as on golf courses, public parks and beaches, and in planned communities). I gave Kiros the nickname Fuzz and he knows it as well as he knows his name which i think is pretty awesome.
The year is 1957 and the Chicago Police have been called to Union Station due to a disturbance.
This is a composite of 3 separate photos. The car is from Geneva, Illinois' Concours d'Elegance. The second shot is the vehicle's 1957 tax sticker. The third is of downtown Chicago's Union Station entrance.

OLEG:
Would you like some more tea, Peter?
PETER:
Yes.... please Oleg
OLEG:
Why do you have your teacup on your head?
PETER:
I have cold feet. If I suffer from cold feet, I always put on a hat.
OLEG:
Tea must be in the teacup. It's not a hat. Turn the cup over and I'll put tea in it. It also gives you warm feet. Then I'll tell you something important.
Peter sips the tea....
OLEG:
Peter, could you make less noise while drinking.
Then I'll tell you the important news now.
Our very far away cousin is coming to Holland.
PETER:
We have many far away cousins Oleg, which one is it?
OLEG:
Fuzz from Canada
PETER:
I've never seen Fuzz
OLEG:
Me neither, but that's what makes it exciting.
PETER:
Why is he coming to Holland?
OLEG:
He lives in Lake Louise and there are wildfires there. He has fled and has asked on the internet who can help him.
Mummy Marian has responded immediately and takes care of the airplane ticket. He has now arrived in Calgary and is waiting for the plane to depart.
There's a picture of Fuzz, see what you think of him.
PETER:
He looks nice....
He is welcome
Very exciting Oleg.
OLEG:
It's going to be okay Peter.
PETER: Scout, Scout! Our far away cousin from Calgary is coming! I'm so excited! Lots of bear kisses from your big friend Peter Veel berenkusje van je grote vriend Peter.
OLEG:
Hello Paddy! Soon you will meet Fuzz, from Canada!
Many bear hugs and kisses from your friend Oleg

"2024: Peach Fuzz
A light, delicate shade that sits between pink and orange, Peach Fuzz marks the 25th anniversary of Pantone's Color of the Year program. This soft, heartfelt hue expresses the desire to nurture kindness, compassion, and connection—all while fostering a deep coziness as we seek a peaceful future."

Bernie took this photo today and posted it online, he told me i could post it under
my profile here. He says i can come and take the Fuzz out to Petsmart on Thursday i dont know if its a good idea or not. It might hurt worse to leave him, then to spend time with him. I hope Bernie doesnt hack my account again and delete my photos again.
While 50' up in a dead tree (in a public park), these Great-horned owl chicks created quite a skirmish between local residents, birders, tree huggers, photographers, bi-law enforcement officers and eventually the police.
Personally, I stayed away, got my pictures mid week when only dog walkers were in the park. The world has gone nuts!
