DAY 2 of Fantec GT World Challenge at Brands Hatch and after seeing some Incredible Qualifying and Racing on Saturday all the Drivers are back Fully Refreshed and Ready for another Day of Hard Racing on the Legendary Grand Prix Circuit. The Weather was Much the same as Yesterday Very Dark and Cloudy but this did not Dampen the Spirits of all The Drivers who were Waiting and Ready to Race.
The GT Cars put on a Very Dominant Performance with the McLaren 720's GT3 Dominating The Entire First Race and Both Ben Barnicoat and Oliver Wilkinson looked to take Victory Having Obliterated the entire Field. However after they Disappeared Down the Fast Back Straight Getting through Back Markers at Dingle Dell the Mercedes AMG GT3 of Marciello touched the McLaren resulting in a very scary High Speed Launch Into The Trees during the Race. Thankfully the Driver was Okay and got out of the car with no visible injuries. A scary End to an otherwise Very Exciting Race.
Another Race to Mention was the Last Race of the Day, The Thunder Saloons with Many Beautiful Escorts MGB'S and The Iconic Peugeot 309 Thunder Saloon of The Late Great Ricky Parker Morris who very Sadly Passed Away due to Covid 19 on the Eve of January 7th 2021. During the Race his Son Danny Morris was at The Wheel and put on one hell of a Fantastic Drive in his Fathers Car. An Amazing Drive Danny you would Have Made Your Father Proud, Here's to Keeping the Spirit of Ricky Alive in Thunder Saloons.
A Really Amazing Weekend with some Very Intense Racing and Plenty of Winners and Victories for Each Driver i their Respective Support Races. For a Full List of Race Results Click the Links Down Below to go and Check out where Everyone Came and who took Victory.
Looking Forward to this Weekend Again Next Year! Keep Racing People.

Spotted on a frosty Manchester street: this black beauty, reg T77 WLD, is a 2012 Porsche Panamera Diesel – Porsche's bold (and controversial) first stab at a diesel-powered four-door Gran Turismo. First registered April 13, 2012, it's clocked **129,109 miles** at its latest MOT pass (Oct 30, 2025, valid til Oct 29, 2026). That's ~9,900 miles/year – perfect evidence this 970-chassis first-gen Panamera lives its intended life as a continent-crushing cruiser.
**Why the Diesel?** Launched May 2011 for Europe (never USA), it paired an Audi-sourced **3.0L V6 turbodiesel (CRCC code)** with an 8-speed Tiptronic S auto. At **250 PS (247 hp)** and a monster **550 Nm (406 lb-ft)** from just 1,750 rpm, it hits 0-62 mph in 6.8s and tops 150 mph. In-gear 50-75 mph? Done in 4.5s – effortless overtaking. Real-world mixed driving yields **35-40+ UK mpg**, with 700+ mile range from its 80L tank. Porsche cheekily claimed "Berlin to Bologna on one tank" – journalists proved it.
**Tech Deep Dive:**
- **Engine Magic:** 2,000-bar piezo injectors (up to 5 per cycle), variable-geometry turbo (2.5 bar boost), dual intercoolers, EGR cooler, DPF. Euro 5 compliant at 172 g/km CO2.
- **Transmission:** Torque-converter Tiptronic (no PDK here due to diesel packaging) with adaptive shifts, paddle control, and "stationary decoupling" for efficiency.
- **Chassis:** RWD only (AWD wouldn't fit), steel coils standard (air suspension optional but avoid!), aluminum-intensive suspension, hydraulic steering.
- **Brakes:** 360mm front/330mm rear vented discs – stops from 60 mph in ~110 ft.
**Dimensions for the Detail-Oriented:**
- 4,970mm long x 1,931mm wide x 1,418mm tall (wheelbase 2,920mm)
- Curb weight: ~1,880-1,955 kg
- Trunk: 445L / 1,263L seats folded
*Side profile shows the infamous "hunchback" styling – love it or hate it, it screams presence.*
**The Polarizing Design:** That sloping roofline? Divisive from day one. Critics called it awkward; fans say it maximizes space while keeping Porsche DNA. Subtle diesel cues: "Diesel" door badges, single oval tailpipe, black calipers, low-revving tachometer. 18" wheels standard – this one's got the classic 5-spoke look.
**Inside the Cabin:** Full leather, 8-way power seats (14/18-way optional), 2-zone climate (4-zone opt.), CDR-31 audio (BOSE/Burmester upgrades). PCM 3.1 nav was cutting-edge in 2012... now it's gloriously retro. Seats 4 adults properly – genuine GT space.
**UK Pricing Context:** Launched at **£62,134** – same as base V6 petrol + PDK. Saved higher-rate taxpayers £1,442/year in company car tax. Today? £10k-£14k used, depending on miles/spec.
**Ownership Reality (High-Mileage Truths):**
✅ **Pros:** Silky refinement above 2k rpm, GT comfort, 40mpg motorways, torque for days, surprisingly agile handling
❌ **Watch Outs:** DPF/EGR issues (needs highway runs), coolant leaks (water pump/thermostat), air suspension fails (steel > air), pricey Porsche parts (~£2-4k/year maintenance budget)
💡 **Pro Tip:** Full service history essential at 129k miles. Engine good for 200k+ with care.
**Competitors It Beat:** BMW 640d (faster but less Porsche), Merc CLS 350 CDI (plusher, less fun), Maserati Quattroporte Diesel (exotic but thirsty). None matched this efficiency+sport balance.
*Snow-dusted rear end highlights those tapering exhausts – pure diesel subtlety.*
This T77 WLD proves the Panamera Diesel's high-mileage cred. Not the fastest Porsche, but perhaps the smartest for real-world GT duty. Styling still splits forums, but 13+ years on, it's earned cult respect. Spot it around Manchester? Give it revs – that V6 rumble deserves appreciation!
