We are going to be eating our own fresh eggs, and offering them to family and friends.
The chickens were picked up at the post office when they were 2 DAYS old. They are now 6 weeks and living in a brooder right by the back door of our kitchen. The last step will be putting them in the coop with a run in our backyard.
Yes, we do live in the suburbs but our back yard is big enough to allow us to build a coop that will not break any city laws. This is the reason you don’t want any cockerels, because they crow loudly in the early morning. All chickens that lay eggs are pullets. How much did this cost us? Well, it wasn’t chicken feed. However we purchased baby chickens at a much lower cost than grown chickens.
The Funny Farm part might be the fact that our son has a 6 month old vizsla dog named Odin. The dog is smart, strong, and the second fastest dog breed in the world. You can see him running in our yard during a very heavy rain storm. So, what came first, the chicken or the egg.
