architects: sigurd lewerentz with david helldén and erik lallerstedt.
maybe more famous for being run by ingmar bergman in the 1950's than for being lewerentz' single largest work.
the delinquents in the porte-cochère are good friends from BIG architects. it is one of the pleasures of living in copenhagen that so many of lewerentz' works are within easy reach.

I don´t know the exact location of this image, but since the picture next to it on my digital reel is a sign of the Slavic-speakers sections of Jehova´s Witnesses so my guess is that it is a few steps away from this place, my guess is that it is in either the first or third district...
I love these dirty parts of Vienna, as one growing up in Sweden I always loved the dirtier places in Europe, Copenhagen, Prague, Berlin and as here Vienna...
when I look at it, I can smell it, that is also a thing about Sweden, now a days very little smell, when I was a kid there were smells I remember them from factories, bakeries and stuff, but now sweden is free of most scents and smells...
I remember next to the Prips brewery, it smelled out of hops, in the harbour there was loads of industrial smells, one of the few smells or scents still here in Malmö is next to the industrial bakery Pågens and also sometimes next to the candy manufacturer Malaco

The Concert Hall was inaugurated 1932 and is one of the first and best examples of swedish functionalism. It has been classified as an Historic Building according to the Heritage Conservation Act.
Architect: Sven Markelius (1889-1972).
The SAS Royal Hotel, completed in 1960, was Arne Jacobsen’s masterpiece. It was a gesamtkunstwerk -- total work of art -- in which Jacobsen was architect and designer. He created a number of pieces of furniture, including the Swan Chair, especially for this project. The Swan (Svane in Swedish) and some other pieces, notably the Egg Chair, became very popular internationally. In 2017-2018, the property, now called the Radisson Collection Royal Copenhagen, commissioned Space Copenhagen to redesign the property in the spirit Jacobsen as many of the original elements had been removed or altered over the years. Space Copenhagen blended historic preservation, restoration, and new elements to re-imagine this Modernist icon for the new millennium. This included restoring and creating new Swans as well as newly designed pieces.

Modernist interior in one of the upstairs rooms; early 1930s, I think. The crinkle-cut cantilevered stair is a real treat. See introductory notes here.
