This picture illustrates how these forests sustain themselves and contribute to the biological life cycles in the forest. This tree stump, as it decays, is a source of nutrients needed by other species to grow. There is vegetation growing from the stump of this tree. This is similar to the "nurse log" that Kruckeberg (1995) refers to.

4) The pipe line along the the stream is a transference for water to travel to many places for the purpose of passing on nutrients. The flooded shares the nutrients with the community of plants and allows growth for more diverse species.
