The Micro Clamp, produced by Function (manufacturer of Okii's MC1 and FC1 USB controller enclosures and knobs), can be used to easily mount 1/4"-20 based accessories to any industry standard 15mm rod. This has proved to be an exciting and unexpectedly emotional work for me. Am I allowed to call it a piece of art? It certainly felt like an achievement.
On a blustery, unsettled day in Lee on Solent, I left the amusement arcade and its £500 machines disillusioned and £40 poorer.. I needed the sea air across my face and I needed food for my camera and my heart. On this occasion I had my TZ6 with me, a compact, a camera which I love and which never ceases to amaze me. I looked at the deserted Skate Park, hesitated, felt unconvinced but entered. I could see photographs but I could see also distracting colours and countless distracting backgrounds. There would be no aperture control today, no depth of field salvation. I prowled, I stood, I visualised and was energised. I left a little while later, half convinced that some shots would be good. On my laptop I was unexpectedly pleased with most.
Here I have chosen with some discipline to show side by side intentionally complementary colour and b&w images. Some look better in colour, some others in b&w. For the exercise I have posted no photographs solely in the one format. Seen in pairs you can decide for yourself the better approach. The stark concrete forms of the skate park defended their function besides a grey sea and beneath a scowling sky.
