All that was fun and dandy, but the really fun times was spending time with our friends, Bine and Dani, and their five cats. Bine is an excellent cook who can whip up a meal with anything. We had great spatzele pasta dishes. Spatzele is a thick noodle flour pasta in the shape of the Japanese udon noodle. There was a delicious baked tomato-based spatzele lasagna covered in melted cheese. Another night, we had spatzele with a creamy mushroom sauce.
Bine being ever so creative, heeded the call of my pal, Jose, in San Francisco, who said , "You haven't been to Germany, if you don't have schnitzel." So, we had to have the famous German schnitzel (a breaded and fried meat). Well, wouldn't you Bine came up with the first Tofu Schnitzel...and it was heaven. Firm tofu sliced thinly, coated with flour and dipped in a beaten egg, and then covered with crushed potato chips & bread crumbs. Yes, potato chips! Out of this world tasty. It was served with a side of tasty boiled potatoes and home-made delicious red cabbage ( which was made the day before with honey and applesauce). "Red cabbage should be made the day before so the flavors can mellow and absorb into the cabbage.", Bine wisely said.
In all, we had a fun and relaxing time in Hamburg. Both Maman Jackie and myself love the city, as we love our friends, or, actually, I should really say, family, Bine & Dani, who made our stay so wonderful.
SANTA PAULI MARKET in the REEPERBAHN
we're going to the naughty german SANTA PAULI MARKET Christmas fair in HAMBURG's red light district, the REEPERBAHN.......the fair is a 'spoof' of the numerous Christmas fairs in Germany...
there are lots of silly naughty items for sale...including Marzipan candy shaped like a penis....my mom said, she doesn't want one, 'soft penises are no good'.
----------------------------------
the naughty section is a tad smaller now ....at least the bump and grinding part...it is now closed off...with no women allowed and no photos...so, why should i bother...lol
.the larger street is just a regular street...though there were lots of 'hourly' Hotels and one could see Folks in their windows up high. not that i looked...
...the fair was fun, very very tame...yes, a tad snore zzzzzzzzzz. well, after one has been to all folsom street fairs like i have for so many years...maybe i-m a tad jaded...
i did see the Lady who was in the newspaper who was selling naughty shaped candies.....she looked great and had a great smile. i told her so. 'thanks, i haven't seen my photo in the paper. How did the chocolate penis-pops look? They are SO hard to photograph..', said the 71 year old seller...ohmygawd....lol

OK, ladies----this is a good one. I have been wanting to get Maggie a tutu because all the pictures on Flickr are fabulous!!! Wellll---if you want to spend $60-$80 bucks, buy it online!!! These homemade ones are so easy and inexpensive!! It takes about 6 yards of tulle (99 cents a yard at Hobby Lobby) and a piece of elastic---you might have $7.00 in it when you're done.
I cut the strips 4 inches wide and layered four strips, fold them in half and loop them onto the elastic---and TADA!! Super easy---ANYBODY can do it!!
