Compared to the sharpness of the cups that form the CB calvus, here, night shot with fullmoonlight, you can see the tops that crumble into ice crystals tufts and frays (CB capillatus phase) moved easily by the altitude strong Southwestern winds and this is a sure sign of precipitation inside the cloud, often in form of thunderstorm.
The photo is taken at night with quite short exposure times thanks to the light of the full moon that illuminated, almost daytime, this line of thunderstorm clouds (Squall Line), which exploit the nocturnal release of heat by the Gulf of Trieste, in a weather phase progressively more unstable and rainy in "my" area.
We breathe a sigh of relief!

The first boat of the morning had just passed by, leaving the water moving and the reflection alive.

Bumping this old favourite. This was a quiet aurora show near Fork River that suddenly exploded for a few minutes, giving us this pretty bright arch. The almost-full moon provided the light for the foreground, while a band of coyotes in the distance provided the soundtrack for the evening.

In this self-timer shot you can see myself, at night, on the top of mount Malamot (2.917 m), in contemplation of a sea of clouds from which are emerging the Dents d'Ambin (3.372 m).
The structure on which I stand is actually the basement of the fort that is located on mount Malamot summit, or what remains of it, considering that are all war ruin.

Frost Moon, as they call it, is the first full moon after Harvest Moon which happened in October (see photo). Frost Moon, appears brighter than other full moons and it occurs at the point when the moon is closest to the earth due to the elliptical orbit. Today it was a .5 tide one of the lowest tides of the year. :) Shot with two new friends that were willing to come and shoot at sunrise. :)

Fishing vessel Point Estero awash,

The fishing vessel, Point Estero, was grounded on these rocks during the foggy night or early morning of July 27, 2017. When it wasn't moved quickly, it became mired between different jurisdictions and, my understanding is, questionable value. Fuel and oils were pumped. It has remained there even after winter storms with big surf. And I'm still struck by the irony of the Point Estero coming aground not far from the geographical Point Estero.

Five Canadian Abandoned Ghost Towns
In late 2019, I had an idea to visit abandoned ghost towns and villages in every Canadian province and territory.
This idea came after reading the book “The Whisper on the Night Wind” by Canadian explorer and author, Adam Shoalts. Adam and I had worked together on a new way to help promote his newest book, I would read the book, interview him and do a video review about it. I got to speak with Adam at great lengths about this adventure and his many others.
The book is about an adventure that Adam and his friend Zach embarked upon to find the lost ghost town of Traverspine in Labrador and investigate sightings of the Traverspine Gorilla. You can learn much more about this on Adam’s website here:

I started researching and planned to start with the many abandoned fishing villages and ghost towns in Labrador and then visit a different province or territory every year.
This monumental goal was to start in May 2020 - but then the world shut down!
Fast forward to 2022 and things were getting back to normal and 2023 would be the year where I started this project and I decided to start in Saskatchewan. In addition to several other places of interest in Saskatchewan, I visited 5 separate ghost towns on my trip.
I did visit a smaller ghost town in Quebec in 2022, while it’s not a true ghost town, it looks a lot like one. It was a movie set for a film called “The Education of Little Tree” from 1997 - the set was built on private property and most of the buildings are still there today.
In 2024, I took on what is probably the most ambitious ghost town in all of Canada, Anyox, BC. I spent one whole week in Anyox documenting as much of it as I could.

This project continues, in 2025 I will visit some of the ghost towns right here in Ontario, in August I am travelling to Alberta, Canada and in 2026 - I am heading to the Arctic, but I haven’t yet decided where yet. Adam Shoalts highly recommended that I go to the Yukon, and I think I am leaning that way!

Just after a rain shower abated and just before sunrise. The opening in the clouds was backlit by the full moon.

Midnight in the Tetons April 12 2017. We went out to Mormon Row to photograph this famous barn at midnight under a full moon. It was a cold but extremely fun night and early morning. We were completey alone out there except for the numerous howling coyotes and other nearby wildlife!!
overnight trip this weekend to catch startrails in zekreet. probably should have checked the moon and the weather. too humid, too much moon (pretty much full - that's why the cliffs are so well light up), and too many clouds. here's what i salvaged. good - but not quite what i wanted. i'll have to go back soon.
