Castello San Giorgio fait partie du Palais Ducal. C'est un château qui remonte au Moyen Âge. La construction du grand château a commencé en 1395 sous la direction de Bartolino. Il a été construit pour défendre la ville et asseoir sa domination sur le territoire.
Bartolino a conçu le château de manière à le surélever à l'entrée du Ponte San Giorgio, pour une protection supplémentaire. C'était un point d'où l'on pouvait observer tout le bassin du lac.

Castello San Giorgio is part of the Ducal Palace. . It is a castle that dates back to the Middle Ages. The construction of the great castle began in 1395 under the direction of Bartolino. It was built to defend the city and establish its domination over the territory.
Bartolino designed the castle to raise it above the entrance to Ponte San Giorgio, for additional protection. It was a point from which one could observe the entire basin of the lake.

Les courbes des bâtiments, inédites jusque-là, viendraient d’un premier dessin griffonné dans le creux de la main de l’architecte André Minangoy. De ses croquis naîtront 1 300 appartements répartis sur quatre grands voiliers de béton entourant un élégant port de plaisance.
The curves of the buildings, previously unseen, would come from an initial drawing scribbled in the palm of the hand of architect André Minangoy. From his sketches were born 1,300 apartments spread over four large concrete sailboats surrounding an elegant marina.
Occupant la partie nord-est de la Piazza III Novembre à Riva del Garda, la Torre Apponale a été construite en pierre de taille vers 1200 puis rehaussée en 1555 pour atteindre sa taille actuelle de 34 m de hauteur.
Elle servait alors de tour de guet pour protéger le port et la place. Elle a aussi été utilisée au fil du temps comme prison et comme observatoire pendant la première guerre mondiale.

It then served as a watchtower to protect the port and the square. It was also used over time as a prison and as an observatory during the First World War.

D'où la construction au début du 16e siècle, peu avant 1531, du château forteresse destiné à servir de demeure au représentant de l'Office. C'est ainsi que, grâce à ses fortifications, Algajola fit partie du système défensif génois. Saccagé par les pirates en 1643, l'édifice fut relevé de ses ruines en 1664. Vendu au plus offrant en 2019, il est aujourd’hui une propriété privée
In the 16th century, the island was under Genoese domination. The province of Balagne had for administrative capital Algajola where the lieutenant of the Office of Saint-Georges resided.
