Ecology Recycling and Transportation Services runs 61 Kenworth T880s equipped with PACCAR MX-11 engines rated at 430 hp with 1,550 lb-ft. of torque. The company's drivers see no difference in top-end performance, and in Arizona, are able to run up to 75 mph. As Ecology runs tractor and trailer combinations at the maximum gross weight of 80,000 pounds on nearly every load, drivers find the pulling power of the PACCAR MX-11 engine is excellent. In addition to Kenworth branding and logos on the T880, Western Trailers logo and brand may not be altered or removed from the trailers prior to publication.)
1926 Hanomag Kommissbrot
1 cilinder 499 cc 10 pk
The Hanomag 2/10 PS is an economy car manufactured by Hanomag from 1924 until 1928. It was one of the first cars with envelope styling.[ It was affectionately referred to as the Kommissbrot ("Army Bread") due to its identical shape with the usual loaf of bread used by the German army at the time. "Kommiss" is German slang for "Army", short for "commissioned."
The 2/10 PS (two taxable / ten brake horsepower) had a single-cylinder half litre engine behind the passengers. The rear axle was chain-driven, with no differential. With a fuel consumption of 4.0 litres per 100 kilometres it was the world's most fuel efficient mass-production car between the two World Wars due to the low-friction one-cylinder engine and its very light weight.[

I used to see this truck regularly in Denton. I spotted him all the way in Mineral Wells, an hour and a half away while on a little road trip. Talked to the owner a bit, super nice guy. His truck gets gas mileage comparable to my brand new hatchback.
Walmart is working with manufacturing partners to develop new technologies to help reduce our environmental footprint, are viable for our business and provide a return on investment. This truck is a hybrid assist, which means the batteries kick in when the truck needs more power (at start up or going up a hill). Freightliner is testing a new location for the batteries – on the back axel, which is designed to put power where it’s needed and mitigate power loss. This truck represents a test for Walmart. We will learn from this vehicle and work with Freightliner to continue to enhance the technology.
This full-propulsion Arvin Meritor hybrid will initially operate in the Detroit area. The dual-mode diesel-electric hybrid is believed to be the first vehicle of its type.
The hybrid provides electric power to assist the motor when the truck needs extra power, such as accelerating from a stop or when going uphill.
In addition to the more aerodynamic tractors in Walmart’s fleet, the company is also testing a number of aerodynamic features for its trailers including these side skirts.
American Furniture operates a fleet of 126 Class 8 tractors picking up furniture from 34 domestic manufacturers, who have facilities from California to Georgia and Mississippi. In addition to its long-haul fleet, 15 tractors are used for ‘local’ warehouse-to-store deliveries. The company is standardizing on the Kenworth T680 with 76-inch sleepers. The trucks come equipped with the Kenworth Idle Management System, which provides engine-off air conditioning and heating.
Itta Bena, Miss.-based Heartland Catfish operates a fleet of 22 Kenworth T680s. The aerodynamic model gains the company a 2.3 mpg improvement over the performance of its previous long-nose model. The improvement offers the company a fuel savings of more than $2,000, per truck, per month. That’s more than a $44,000 monthly cut in the cost of fuel for the fleet.

Super single tires on the Kenworth T880s and 48-foot trailers manufactured by Western Trailers also contribute to the 2,000-pound weight weight savings Ecology Recycling and Transportation Services enjoys with this tractor and trailer combination. Kenworth’s new, fuel-efficient T680 52-inch mid-roof sleeper Advantage Package, for regional haul and less-than truckload operations, is now available for order as of December 2016. The T680 Advantage with 52-inch sleeper features an optimized powertrain with either the PACCAR MX-13 or PACCAR MX-11 engine, Eaton Fuller Advantage(TM) series 10-speed automated transmission, and the new PACCAR Axle, the industry’s most efficient and lightest weight tandem drive axle. The 52-inch mid-roof sleeper configuration also offers new aerodynamic elements including a front air dam, flared-out fairings, lower sleeper fairing extenders and FlowBelow(TM) wheel covers that enhance fuel economy by effectively redirecting airflow around the chassis, sleeper and trailer. Other notable fuel-efficiency features are Kenworth’s Predictive Cruise Control, Neutral Coast, and Driver Performance Assistant.

Ecology Recycling and Transportation Services holds a transfer dump contract in the Phoenix area that requires the company to haul the most trash at the lowest cost. To help get the contract hauling waste from transfer stations in Phoenix to landfills between 80 and 120 miles away, Ecology has done more with less by reducing weight in its new Kenworth T880s and trailers. The design, performance, fuel economy and the comfortable quiet interior of the Kenworth T680 makes it the truck of choice among Marten Transport drivers. CEO Randy Marten says quality equipment like the Kenworth T680 allows the company to remain competitive, particularly in attracting the industry's best drivers.

"...Shrewdly anticipating the utterly obvious and inevitable, Honda was ready for the recent surge in gas prices in all ways but one: It didn't have enough cars on the lot. Honda has had the highest fleet average fuel efficiency in the U.S. for the last 15 years and has, with admirable restraint, avoided stuffing gas-aholic V8s into the trim little noses of its cars.
The company's hottest product is the Fit, a small, modest, lumpen prole of a car that just happens to be one of the best-engineered vehicles on the planet. It tells us something fundamental about the changing tastes of the American market that Fit sales are up 73 per cent this year, while you couldn't give a Cadillac Escalade away if you filled it with mermaids..."
American Furniture front-hauls a variety of goods in their 53-foot van trailers out of the Denver and Phoenix area. Then, the company back-hauls furniture from manufacturers around the United States to one of American Furniture’s three distribution centers in the Denver area, and two in Phoenix. Middelgrunden is located 2 km off shore east of Copenhagen. It consists of 20 Bonus 2 MW wind turbines arranged to form an arch. With a total power of 40 MW the wind farm can generate 90 TWh a year. That is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 20,000 (Danish) households or three per cent of the total electricity consumption of Copenhagen. More info here.

Holman Distribution gets a 1/2 mile per gallon fuel economy improvement over the models other leasing companies offered. Fred Olson, general manager for Holman Distribution, tested three brands of trucks. “What’s more, the other leasing companies had a set truck they wanted to lease us and they kept telling us that this spec -- or that spec -- in our operation wouldn’t make much of a difference," Olson says. "But, if you add 1/10th mile per gallon here, and another there; or save 300 pounds with aluminum versus steel wheels; pretty soon finite details add up to something bigger. The folks at PacLease understood that and worked with us to custom spec the Model 579 to maximize fuel economy. They understood what we were after – they knew trucks and they knew specs."
Marten Transport takes driver satisfaction seriously, especially when it comes to the equipment the drivers operate. “We’ve been running Kenworths since 1967, but this newest evolution of Kenworth truck is incredible,” says Randy Marten, company CEO. “We like everything about the T680 – the design, performance, fuel economy – but our drivers like Kenworths for the interior comfort and quiet ride.”
