Supernova diffraction extreme.

I was trying to reproduce some cool lens flares, similar to what happens when doing astro photography and bright stars.

The number of diaphragm blades on your shutter when stopped down cause these star like spikes. Here my lens has 7 blades that causes 14 spikes. It's different for the # of intrusions into the light path.

What's neat about this is the reflections are also causing a hyperbola dot pattern as well due to the sensor.

I had fun with this one, HMM!

Same as previous Image. I am using Helios on this one

Still life - Helios

I like this Helios the best ( I used F2.0 Fstop on this one.) I like this DOF best too and I used a photo light on the table in this one only.

Also the Helios creates light flares off the glasses. Love that.

A Flooded Castle Loch, Lochmaben. One of those miserable Sunday mornings where its dark, cold and damp. I spent a wee bit of time trying to work the composition for this one. I went with a high iso than I perhaps normally would, hoping to keep some movement in the water to help with the mood.

UK & International Landscape Photography Workshops www.melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/photography-workshops

Another World, Vestrahorn, Iceland

I have just spent the last hour editing this photo that I took back while leading my winter workshop in Iceland this February. I say it took me an hour, in truth, I spent half that time just sitting back and losing myself in the view which I think is utterly spellbinding.

I have photographed this magnificent mountain on each of my ten visits to Iceland and it never, never fails to inspire and amaze me. Vestrahorn is my favourite location in Iceland and when you see it looking all resplendent while wearing its winter coat, you can see why.

I am really, REALLY looking forward to returning to Iceland next February to run another workshop and if you would like to join me to witness and experience this view for yourself, click on the link below.

Petunias in the garden, as they radiate the beauty of light and color. They somewhat remind me of colorful beach umbrellas. Maybe a seashore trip is in the future.

Finishing our tour of Navajo Nation we made a detour to Grand Canyon National Park from the east entrance at Cameron to Desert View Watchtower.

This is the view from slightly southwest of the Desert View Watchtower looking northeast.

GRCA needs all the rain it can get. The Dragon Bravo fire is mostly contained but still burning on the North Rim.

Mood

The mood of this photo is cinematic, ominous, and awe-inspiring, capturing a dramatic collision between a massive summer storm and the vast scale of the canyon.

. . .

It is a deeply atmospheric shot that trades the typical bright, postcard-perfect look of the Grand Canyon for something much more raw, moody, and humbling.

Lochan na h-Achlaise

We decided on a roadtrip up to Glen Coe at the last minute this past weekend after looking at the forecast and the prospects for cold and sunny conditions.

This first image from Lochan na h-Achlaise on Rannoch Moor just before sunrise. My initial intention was to catch the first morning light coming over the Black Mount range which you can always be assured of getting here. I got images from before and all the way through to the complete range highlighted by the morning sun, but looking at the images the one from just before the sun appeared is the one that caught my eye the most as it still had that fresh white look of the snow rather than tinted from pink to yellow as the sun got gradually higher. I will probably post another with some light on the mountains as a comparison, but this is my fave version as we speak:)...

Flower: Primula veris, common cowslip, or cowslip primrose.

I have used a Soviet lens that is more than 60 years old, a Helios-40, 85 mm f1.5. I have shut down the aperture a few Fstops. That's why the lens has created such weird bokhe balls

Just like yesteryear, the Hungarian subsidiary of DB Cargo widen its electric locomotive fleet with the ninth Montana. If only the LEMA is hired for less or more time from the Romanian DB Cargo, it'll have a large amount of freights to haul on the Hegyeshalom-Curtici axis, or anywhere else in the country.

On the last week's Saturday, the powerful locomotive pulled a cartrain, that was fully loaded with brand new Fords, when I captured it on Budaörs station.

Winter Along The Wall

Sunset along Hadrian's Wall from three weeks ago. I was lucky enough to have spent 3 days over that weekend chasing snow around Cumbria, Northumberland and Dumfries & Galloway. A good sky and a nice layer of snow at Walltown Crags, not really much more you need for a nice image up here.

Photo taken this morning in Audubon Park Garden during a light rain.

Loch Eck is a 7miles long loch located on the Cowal peninsula, north of Dunoon, Argyll and Bute, Scotland.

We spent a couple of days staying in Kilmartin, with a mixture of sun and rain...this a classic example of having both at the same time.
