This poor raccoon has no ears! I don't know how he lost them. Fighting usually leaves them tattered and this looks too clean. I'm thinking maybe frostbite. I've taken to calling him Vinny!

A picture from the beginning of this year. Just in time for Christmas, the snow disappears here. You have to use older pictures to get yourself in the mood.

I wish you all a merry Christmas out there with your loved ones. Wonderful hours together and maybe one or two great gifts.

Thank you all so much for your comments & faves.

It may be mid-teen temperatures and 20+mph winds, but that isn't stopping me from braving the cold for some pictures! With a hefty train in tow for Cadwell, Shelbyville, etc, the UP LSB54 gains speed after slowing for a northbound grain train to enter Tuscola siding. Crew members Strubinger and Garfield will soon be hopping out and braving the cold to perform their duties for the day. This weather doesn't stop the railroad!

Temperatures plummeted well below freezing today, before the wind was even factored in. A mostly clear dome yielded some good results throughout the day, including this take here. Newly acquired NBSR 6408 & 6409 are on their maiden revenue voyage, having left Saint John earlier in the morning. I had this lying around for a long time now, just wanted to upload it and be done with it.

Hope you all like this!:)

Find this photo really sad. It looks like it's crying in the harsh cold. Sad yet beautiful.

A pair of former Wisconsin Central SD45s roll a southbound CN freight across the White River dumping into Echo Lake in Burlington back in 2002.

It was mighty cold but worth the numbness suffered standing in the park waiting for this thing.

A vivid winter pastel painting created with Midjourney V5.2. Post-processing was accomplished using artistic filters and textures from GIMP, Fotosketcher and Photoshop. Zoom-in to see the painterly brushwork detail.

Now we’ve got a winter!

I had to climb a snow bank to gain some elevation for this photo. Not having boot gators is always fun when the powder is a few feet deep;-) Good thing we had a few hours of hiking left on our adventure!

Don't let the lack of snow fool you, this morning shoot was brutally cold. Although I had dressed for the weather, I did have to take off my glove to set up and adjust my camera.

The 30 to 40 MPH winds made it feel well below zero. Because of that, after about 30 minutes I could barely feel my hand. The burn finally went away after a few hours. I guess photographers will do just about anything to get the shot. You know you are having fun when you can't feel your hands.

Frostbite, home sweet home ...

Here's an oldie (at least by my standards)

With a fresh crew on board from the swap in Marquette, CEFX 1026 heads south, leading Canadian Pacific train 674 (Sparta, WI(?) to Kansas City, MO and onward to Colorado or New Mexico(?), frac sand loads) through downtown McGregor, IA on a bitterly cold February morning.

Looks like the parking lot for Nauti Marina and Big Buoys Tiki Bar became the central repository for snow pile disposal in this part of town.. although at the time, it appears it was called Honda Marina? I guess I forgot now that all this time has passed,

I sure miss seeing these CEFX blues, they were neat. Felt like they'd last forever, but all of a sudden, the lease was up and away they went. This scene won't be repeated again, but it was here within 24 hours. 16 or so hours before this, another 674 came south through town with the exact same locomotive configuration: CEFX AC44 up front, and some random DP on the rear.

Taken on the Canadian Pacific Marquette Subdivision on 2/15/19.

Back in 1993 when MD&W's fleet was exclusively Alco switchers, Nos. 16 and 20 are seen resting outside their general office/shop building. Today the mill operates at a lower production level than it did in the past and the railroad relies almost exclusively on a pair of rebuilt ex-UP "hammerhead" SW10s painted in an attractive Forest Green with white lettering (they still have one or two Alcos on the roster but are seldom used).

No. 16 is a former B&O S-2 while No. 20 is an S-4 (NP 716, which worked Duluth-Superior).

Nemo Nanyi མེ་མོ་ ན་ ཉི་ (Gurla Mandhata) 7728m (25354ft)

Nemo Nanyi མེ་མོ་ ན་ ཉི་ (Gurla Mandhata) 7728m (25354ft). It is the 34th highest peak in the world (using a 500 metre prominence cutoff). It is also notable for being well within the Tibetan Plateau (most peaks of similar height - except notably Shishapangma, the world's 14th highest peak - lie nearer to or outside the edge of the Plateau) and relatively far away from other peaks of height greater than 7500 metres. It sits roughly across Lake Manasarowar from the sacred peak of Mount Kailash. The Tibetan name, Naimona'nyi, is said to come from naimo = "herbal medicine", na = "black", nyi = "heaped-up slabs", giving "the mountain of heaped-up slabs of black herbal medicine." In 1905 T. G. Longstaff, accompanied by two alpine guides and six porters, made an attempt on Gurla Mandhata. They turned back at around 7,000 m (23,000 ft) after being caught in an avalanche and encountering other difficulties.[1] This was a strong achievement for the time, especially for such a small group; at that time no summit of over 7,000 m had yet been climbed and Longstaff's height represented a world altitude record. The first ascent of the peak was by a joint Japanese/Chinese team led by Katsutoshi Hirabayashi, via the north side of the peak, in May 1985. Since that time, there have been six additional successful ascents and two failed attempts on the peak. In 1997, an attempt was made to ascend the peak via the then-unclimbed North Face route by Quinn Simons, Soren Peters, and their guide, Charlie Fowler. The team made a valiant effort, climbing high on the mountain, but after severe storms and other difficulties had to retreat. Their descent ended in a fall of some 450 m (1,500 ft) down the North Face of the peak. Fowler was slightly injured, while Simons and Peters both suffered extreme frostbite on their extremities. The standard ascent route climbs the western flanks of the mountain ascending the Chaglung'mlungha Glacier to the summit plateau. Most teams choose to approach the mountain over land by jeep from either Lhasa, Tibet, or Kathmandu, Nepal. However, an alternate approach begins in the mountain hamlet of Simikot, Nepal, in the remote Humla district of west Nepal and follows the Karnali River northward, crossing into Tibet in the village of Sher. Jeeps then take climbers north through Taklakot (Burang) to basecamp on the mountain. The first official American ascent of the mountain was made on September 28, 2006 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurla_Mandhata

Esse foi o esmalte escolhido pro Natal!! =) ... Ele não tem nada de natalino, mas me deu uma super vontade de usá-lo! Comprei ele no Paraguai, nunca tinha visto! É um azul maravilhoso, cintilante. Passei 2 camadas dele, mas o protetor solar deixou ele fosco, aí no dia seguinte passei mais 1 camada e finalizei com top coat da Ideal! Fiquei apaixonada! Beijos meninass!!
