I bumped into Toronto musician "Woody" during a late-afternoon walk. He shared a bit of his story with me, and shared some good tunes. Everyone who passed by him donated some money, but this little kid gave him a chocolate bar.

The Los Angeles County Library is closed to the public, but behind the scenes librarians are offering services online and making sewing face masks. The masks are for LA County librarians who are being deployed as disaster worker to homeless shelters or to provide childcare for health care workers in medical facilities. Because there is a shortage of mask for people in the frontlines, LA County Library sent out a call-out asking for volunteers to sew masks. Approximately 100 people with sewing skills volunteered, and to 23 those people started to work at La Puente Library. By the end of their first week, they’ll create 350 masks. Once all 100 volunteers get stocked with supplies, they will produce 1,500 face masks per week.(Mayra Beltran Vasquez / Los Angeles County )

DEBRA WILLIAMS: The Covid-19 crisis has made us all value and appreciate the dedication and bravery of all key workers, carers and NHS heroes. A giant mural featuring Manchester Royal Infirmary nurse Debra Williams as an angel has appeared in the city’s Northern Quarter. The artwork created by acclaimed street artist Akse-P19, is a tribute to all of the front line workers across Greater Manchester and the UK.
Born in North Staffordshire, Debra (41) studied to be an ODP (operating department practitioner) and qualified in 2000. She has worked at the MRI (Manchester Royal Infirmary) since 2003 as an ODP with the extended role as an “Emergency airway practitioner” (EAP) which involves responding to major trauma calls, airway management for patients in cardiac arrest and any critically ill patients that might need inter-hospital transfers or assistance with airway management.
Debra was on duty on the night of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, responding as part of the major incident process where she was based in the Emergency Room.
“Probably a massive understatement… this is a fabulous tribute to the NHS. Very humbled by it all, as we’re all just getting on with doing our jobs in this weird new world.”
GREATER MANCUNIANS is a Manchester College student led landmark photography project (supported by Manchester City Council). It features those people born, bred, or who have made their home within the current Greater Manchester boundary and who have in some way culturally shaped the city and its surrounding boroughs.
The project will be published and exhibited in a major city centre exhibition in 2021/22.

"Today is Canada’s National Day of Observance. On this day, we take time to remember all those who have died or have had health complications as a result of COVID-19, and honour our health-care and front-line workers who have been working selflessly and courageously since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic three years ago."

Across the region, UNDP country offices are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting governments to keep their citizens safe.
CaucasPack is one of an array of Georgian companies repurposing their production lines on short notice to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Many, especially in the packaging sector, are supported by the EU and UNDP as part of their wider assistance to the private sector in Georgia. These face shields are made from recycled plastic bottles, and the production saved jobs for 99 workers. UNDP helped connect the company with users and clients. In total, 40,000 locally produced protective face shields help frontline healthcare staff and civil servants in Georgia stay safe during the pandemic.
