In Islam, prayer beads are referred to as tasbih, and contain 99 beads, corresponding to the 99 Names of Allah. Sometimes only 33 beads are used, in which case one would cycle through them 3 times to equal 99. Use of the tasbih to count prayers and recitations is an evolution of (Holy Prophet )Muhammad's practice of using the fingers of his right hand to keep track. While in pretty wide use today, some adherents of Wahhabism shun them as an intolerable innovation, preferring to stick to the exact method believed to have been used by the Prophet.
The Shias do Istikhara on Tasbihs too...
The Healing powers of Tasbih
And just as using beads for prayer is a long-standing tradition, so is healing with beads. Throughout history cultures have used gemstones and wood for healing. Dr. Robert Frost, a physician in Basel, Switzerland, recently studied the scientific properties of these gems and woods and created a method of testing woods and gemstones that reveals their healing properties in scientific terms (Frost). In his clinical work, Dr. Frost discovered that using the correct gemstone or wood could reduce pain, prevent allergic reactions, improve coordination and even increase muscle strength.
To give some examples; Tiger-eye is traditionally used to enhance understanding and strengthen belief. It is healing to the stomach area and is often used to assist with problems of the kidney, pancreas, liver, small intestine or stomach. It has also been found to have a calming effect on people who hold it.
Turquoise keeps the feeling of unconditional love in one's heart and helps one feel more connected with Allah. It also assists in the digestion of proteins and thus aids digestion. Turquoise also helps draw out negative feelings such as envy or anger from a person. It assists in healing ailments of the thyroid, throat, ears, neck and respiratory system. It can also help to combat allergies or heart problems.
Beads of amber can help lift the heaviness of burdens, amethyst can be spiritually uplifting or heal the stomach or liver, and black onyx helps one to change bad habits. There are many books and websites that speak about the healing power of gems. Beware in your search, as some sites are mystical and foreboding. But there are an equal number of scientific books and websites that offer information on gems to the general public.
The healing power of wooden prayer beads is often in their scent, which is released and revived with usage. The scent of rosewood is traditionally used for nervous tension, frigidity, and headaches. It also assists the immune system, helps to fight viruses and regenerate cells. It is good for jet lag and skin inflammations and has the ability to relax a person without making them drowsy.
Beads made of sandalwood emit a scent that has been used for healing since the time of the prophet. Sandalwood is an antidepressant, antiseptic, insecticidal, and sedative wood. It can assist in the healing of cells and is used to assist the immune system in any healing process or to prevent illness.
In the Tafseer of Ibn Juzayy, it is said that the Prophet Mohammad(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said in a message from Allah, “I am in my slaves opinion of Me and I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I remember him in My self.” For this reason and the reason of easy transport, prayer beads are a popular gift from one Muslim to another. With a little more thought, this gift can be physically uplifting as well as spiritually.

A look back south from the same spot as the last photo. Below and through the shifting clouds you can see the Lakes of the Clouds hut, run by the Appalachian Mountain Club. It is named for the two small ponds to its left in this photo. Despite the frigidity and exposure of these high regions, several of the people who work seasonally at the hut enjoy taking an evening skinny dip in those unwelcoming waters.
"Autumn’s redemptive value is in its evocative power, capable of conjuring up a romantic world from the gifts of nature. The incomparably beautiful hues of red, orange, and brown embellish the trees. The chilly and comfortable relief from the oppressive summer's heat is not quite the bitter frigidity of winter. Drizzles and gentle breezes are not yet winter's pelting rains and gusty winds. From their boughs hesitant leaves fall aimlessly as if grieving their own demise. Now that summer's adventures are over, the time has come to settle down and reminisce. About past escapades, about the native home left behind, about old relationships, about the good old days, or anything else the heart and mind can bring back. And inevitably feelings well up of fragile love that faces the threat of extinction, and the concomitant haste to grasp and hold on before it vanishes forever." ~ Thomas D Le

Natural Treatment For Frigidity In Females

Set of ice blocks placed upon an old table waiting to be used for the refrigeration of seafood in the Tsukiji fish market-biggest wholesale seafood and fish market in the world of central Tokyo-Japan.
My driver dropped me off at the Park admin. office early my 1st day, I paid the entrance fee, was given a map, reviewed it with a ranger there, discussed weather conditions, hiking options, the locations of refugios (re-foo-hios, cabins), etc., and set off. Soon enough I found a fine walking stick as I headed north towards Lago Grey.
- In the 4 days I was in the park I didn't meet a soul, apart from staff at the office at the park entrance, and I had the whole glorious place to myself. I've complained some in the descriptions to my earlier Patagonian photos of the seasonal restrictions I encountered this trip (particularly at El Calafate and Los Glaciares in Argentina), but the solitude and the lack of distractions while hiking in this park was one very real perq that I enjoyed for being there in July. And although the days were shorter, I'm sure the light was better for much of the time when the sun was up, with much lengthier periods of twilight at dawn and at dusk.
- The rubber boots I bought in Puerto Natales were necessary as I had to cross several streams or large pools which had flooded the hiking trail(s) that led north and south close to or alongside the Rio Grey and the shore of Lago Pehoé. My memory's a bit fuzzy but I think I stayed in the Refugio Paine Grande my first night, because I got up and set out early, well before sunrise (@ 4 a.m.), to hike several km.s to this glacier. I arrived at the lookout for this beautiful view shortly after sunrise, and then kept up until I was inside it. (See my next photo). This glacier's just as blue as Perito Moreno in Los Glaciares, but is much smaller, only @ 10 to 15 m.s high from the water. www.flickr.com/photos/97968921@N00/50950218563/in/faves-9... It appears to have retreated some since I was here judging from this map, and so you'd see less of it from this point today, particularly on the left or western side. fsexpeditions.com/booking_hiker/torres_del_paine_map.html
- There were some misadventurous moments in those 4 days, and 2 of the more memorable occurred while I was trying to sleep in the refugios. One evening (my 1st?), some time after supper, I set down my ground sheet and sleeping bag on the wooden floor of the cabin, did my ablutions, put on all my layers, and got into my bag, but soon I heard scuffling noises. There was at least one excited, hyperactive mouse loose in the cabin, running around and up and down and alongside the walls, and soon enough I felt it touching my scalp! (The top of my head was exposed of course at the opening of my sleeping bag). My attempts to swat it were unsuccessful and to shoo it away were unpersuasive. It wouldn't leave me alone for more than some minutes at a time, my scalp was just too interesting, and I didn't know if there was more than one in the cabin. (As loud as it was, and although I could feel it on occasion, I never actually saw it, so I can't speculate as to the species). The solution I arrived at was to move the groundsheet and sleeping bag to atop the picnic table (which was in the cabin), and sleep a few feet above the floor, and it didn't bother me after that.
- I think it was on my 2nd evening in the park while I was setting out my groundsheet and sleeping bag in another refugio (at Campamento Italiano I think, having hiked there from the Grey glacier that morning, and having hiked @ 18 hr.s from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.), that I came across the bottom half of a large, plastic coke bottle, which I assumed a hiker had used as a cup. Later that night, when the loud and clear call of nature tore me from the arms of Morpheus, the 1/2-a-coke-bottle 'cup' was within arms-reach of my sleeping bag. The thought of getting up to pee in the freezing Patagonian cold, such as it was, was sufficiently unpleasant and uninspiring that I found a certain appeal in the following plan. If I could skillfully and carefully pee into the 1/2-a-coke-bottle inside my sleeping bag while lying on my side, and then just as carefully, slowly remove it from the bag so as not to spill anything, of course, and then place the receptacle at a safe arms-length distance from me, to be emptied in the morning at my greater convenience, how much nicer that it would be than emerging from the warmth of my sleeping bag to brave the frigidity of the Patagonian night, as I'd otherwise have to do. This plan should have worked as I was just as skillful and careful as necessary, and I wouldn't recall that 1/2-a-coke-bottle today, except that after I'd peed into it and began to remove it, I noticed that it wasn't any heavier. In fact, it was empty, for tiny holes had been poked into the bottom of it. I now assume it had been used as something like a sieve to strain water for drinking or cooking. One side of my sleeping bag was now quite wet with urine, but which froze quickly enough. I took out some more garments and material from my pack, placed them between myself and the freezing and then frozen part of the bag, and managed to sleep well enough that way. I planned to return to that same refugio to sleep there again the following night, after a full day hiking in the area of 'the Horns' of Paine, and so I hung the sleeping bag out on a branch or something by the cabin to dry in the sun. But when I returned that evening, it was still frozen. I don't think it had thawed in the least, and so again I placed some material between myself and the frozen spot that night and made do again. Live and learn. Always make sure that any cup or bottle that you might pee into in your sleeping bag, however skillfully, has no holes in it! Lol.

June 21st is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. The extra amount of light and warmth from the sun is what makes summer the season it is. Latitudes above the Arctic Circle are bathed in perpetual daylight when, at this time, the sun never sets. Correspondingly, extreme southern latitudes in the Antarctic region are swathed in a perpetual night - and unbelievable frigidity. This view shows a luminous golden sun rising over the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. A crane seen in the background is testimony to the extensive renovation and restorative work taking place on that monument presently.
Beautiful and austere, locked into a perpetual state of extreme cold and distant frigidity, Saturn's moon, Enceladus, is anything but another dead world - and seemingly has many secrets yet to yield to modern planetary science. The "Tiger Stripes", fissures or vents in an otherwise remarkably smooth and sparsely cratered surface, are the curious surface features seen running in parallel grooves in the southern hemisphere. Fairly recently discovered on Cassini flybys, they have been observed to emit hundreds of tons of ice, and are the source of most - if not all - of the ice particles continuously replenishing Saturn's famous and rather mysterious E-ring.
Enceladus, quite unlike nearby Mimas which it resembles in size, is geologically active with thermal hot spots and geysers in the southern latitudes and south polar region.
Very recently, sodium has also been detected in these icy plume emissions, and though this has not yet been confirmed by terrestrial instruments, sodium, if it truly exists, is thought to be further evidence of the existence of a possible vast sub-surface ocean lurking unseen beneath Enceladus.Sodium salts may conceivably have been leached out by the liquid water from subterranean or crustal rocks within the reservoir. Where there is salt and relatively warm liquid water, there is also the tantalising and compelling possibility, no matter how seemingly improbable, of finding some form of primitive life. In terms of scientific interest and importance, Enceladus now ranks in the same league with Titan, Mars and Europa. Indeed, the research potential of this intriguing moon seems vast. But time alone will tell if we ever discover life here, or anywhere else in the Solar System.
The next two targeted flybys of Enceladus will occur on Nov. 2 and Nov. 21, 2009. The first of these will bring Cassini to within an astonishing 99 miles of the surface, offering unsurpassed detailed views and photographic opportunities of the stripes and geyser plumes.

Austin wasn't so thrilled to take a photo. He was starting to get really frigidity and restless after half an hour. I like his relaxed, cool expression. I would have liked a better background.
Coming downstairs about 8:30 this morning, I noticed the power was out. Thankfully, the house had not descended into frigidity just yet, though it was indeed cool! More wonderfully still, we had cold and hot running water. I can live without heat for a while. Water? Not so much.
Outside, we truly had a fresh winter wonderland. Overnight, another foot or so of snow had fallen, so much so that the footprints and cleared walks from the night before were erased, or very nearly so. It looked as if nothing had been done, and the snow continued to fall. (It eventually stopped about 1:30 or 2.) You can see our poor little Japanese Maple here; in back, the branches of our stately, giant oak tree, laced with the stuff, were nearly brushing the top of the snow.
Of course, the business of clearing the additional snow was gotten down to after the pets were fed (we ate pantry things, not wanting to open the refrigerator). Ben LOVED the snow, and even the kitties had an extra measure of 'crazy' all morning. Hubby started a nice fire in the fireplace, and we figured we would be stuck in the living room. We crossed our fingers, hoping the electricity—and heat!—would come back on soon.
To resist the frigidity of old age one must combine the body, the mind and the
heart - and to keep them in parallel vigor one must exercise, study and love.

Despite the fact it was bucketing down with rain for most of the day, Paul and I decided we'd had so much fun last weekend that buying bikes, helmets, etc. just made sense. The masseuse that managed to stop my head aching suggested that I get back on a bike this weekend, so technically it was a prescription.
At the turnaround point (end of Upper Park Rd.) of our mixed terrain ride, the Crumm clan decided to remove shoes, cross the late December frigidity of Big Chico Creek, and continue on, up Green Gate Road and back down Hwy. 32.
This wall color is two differerent colors of beige (gack). I wanted something a little warmer but with all the other white walls and high ceilings it just ended up looking institutional. The basic black industrial staircase just adds to the coldness. Once I painted the wall opposite it a dark vibrant pink, it warmed everything up. Painting the staircase brown and fitting it out with wood risers and the understairs storage also took away a lot of the frigidity.
Just a side note: don't skimp on paint quality, always get a good brand (my designer friend swears by Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams) because it will pay off in the long run. I did this beige wall with some crappy brand because I liked the colors (didn't know that you can get a custom shade made for you) and it comes off the wall from the slightest bump (despite two coats). If I leave a book with the spine touching the wall for a couple of weeks, when I pull it away it has stuck to the paint and will pull off a chunk of paint. All the other paint in my house is BennieMoore and I don't have that problem AT ALL. Spend the extra money, or spend time later retouching.
