After heavy rains yesterday, we watched the storm clouds roll away this morning. Photo taken on the property where my wife and I reside.
Sound is ever-present in our lives, whether it’s a subtle soundtrack to the everyday or an immersive sensory encounter. This Friday Late explored the creation, experience and preservation of sound. Visitors were invited to join a soundscape led tour of the galleries or create a standing wave to reflect the resonance of spaces and objects. To visit a museum of sound and reflect on the role of audio archiving. And to discover sonic installations and live interventions as we blur the boundaries between sound, noise and music.

On Friday, September 13, more than 100 people came out to the Winchester Trap & Skeet Facility in East Alton, IL, to participate in the 2013 Labor Trap Shoot & BBQ Campaign Kick Off. Attendees spent the morning shooting two rounds and also taking part in new side games. Guests then made their way over to the Machinists Hall in East Alton for a home-cooked bbq meal. At lunch, guests heard a brief presentation, watched this year's campaign video, and received dozens of raffle prizes. The three top shooters took home trophies for their achievements.
In Tina, we salute you Friday gave me fresh insights into his multifaceted past.
'I was a close personal friend of Hotblack Desiato. I was in the same band. We were big buddies'. I thought that Friday was boasting. He read my doubts and said with a grin 'buy me a coffee and I'll tell you the story'.
'You must have heard of Disaster Area. We were a bit loud. When Hotblack went to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe I went with him.'
'So, why did Hotblack go to the end of the worldt?' I asked.
'He needed to spend a year dead for tax purposes (1), I lost touch with him after that. In fact I think I was stranded in the Restaurant for a while. I used to wait on tables and I must have waited too long, I've only just got back'.
'So what did you play in the band?'
'I was the second percussionist's first assistant', replied Friday.
Then he looked across at Old Henry's Freehouse and said 'I feel quite at home in that place over there; it's full of nutters'.
Hey, I like Friday's these days :-D Since I work out all week at the Y it makes the weekend seem more sweet, like it's well deserved rest. Not that I don't enjoy the work out, I love it, but it's nice to have a couple of days that I don't have to be there.
Tanner loved going with me this morning and then after lunch I took him to a friend's birthday party so now I have some time at home. I'm feeling good about getting all my e-mail responses and that kind of thing taken care of yesterday, woo hooo!

For August's Friday Late, participants were invited to take part in a therapy pig session and experience performances for pets; to explore an animal-dating app and question the evolution of digital pets, and to see dancers explore animal domestication and uncover stories of pets within the V&A collections.

Where is the space for creativity in the city? In October 2019 the Friday Late headed beyond the museum walls to Hackney Wick, to explore how artists and designers are responding to the changing cityscape around them. Visitors took part in a pop-up creative studio to consider the transitory nature of physical space and experience performances about dwelling and displacement. They found out how creative communities are innovating, growing and claiming space in east London and beyond. This Friday Late was part of the pre-opening programme for the V&A East project – a new museum at Stratford Waterfront, and a collection and research centre at Here East, opening in 2023.
