Intrepid North Sea seal, made it all the way inland to the outskirts
of Groningen. Very unusual.
He seemed content enough though.
(Distance nearly 100m.)
Landscaping in the morning light is not supposed to be easy, but it would be made easier if we lived near the stunning locations like this, the inlet of Freshwater on the IOW.

A dreamy sunset, captured at Freshwater Bay. Really like the pinky orange sky in this photo, which lasted a only few moments before the sky turned a deep crimson.
A scene looking over Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight. It was good timing with the bikes, as a couple literally rode off on them moments after taking this shot!
16th August 2016.
Potamalosa richmondia
Freshwater herring feeding on Gambusia. The Gambusia can be seen in the top right. It may have survived this encounter but there are many more hungry mouths waiting beneath the water.
Freshwater West (also known as Fresh West) is a beach near Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire in West Wales. It lies along the B4319 road and is part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Freshwater West, noted for its strong waves and currents, is one of Wales' top surfing locations, and regularly hosts surfing tournaments such as the Welsh National Surfing Championships. Since 2010 the beach has had a lifeguard service during the busier summer months. The Castlemartin MOD firing range is located nearby.
Having a few days on the Isle of Wight, that's as close to abroad as we are going to get this year!
We had a lovely first night at Freshwater Bay to try to capture the sunset. Stuart was not happy being that close to the cliff and was hanging on to my jacket for dear life. Breathtakingly beautiful.
We had some interesting clouds and light yesterday evening so I decided to experiment stacking some of my filters for a Long Exposure. I like the photo, it has something, but not happy about the noise. Well still lots to learn. Any constructive criticism more than welcome.
Queenscliff and Manly from Freshwater Reserve.
Taken from coast path on cliffs above east side of bay.
The one further away is Stag Rock - is so named because supposedly a stag leapt to the rock from the cliff to escape during a hunt.
The nearer one is Mermaid Rock - it was battered on 2020 and partially collapsed www.countypress.co.uk/news/...
W9 and I find ourselves walking the mulched path along the racetrack of Jefferson Blvd.
Now the light is better. Thin clouds pass overhead. The sun is lower in the sky.
We haven’t traveled far but apparently this duck has.
I set my camp stool up at the water's edge. The ground is soggy and spongy. The stool legs are slowly sinking. Unevenly. I do my best to dig my heels into the soft muddy soil. My Marsh Pilates will have to do to get my lens as close as possible to this exciting visitor.
I feel something crawling on my shin and look down to see it was standing room only for the ant-palooza festival on my socks.
The water seemed to bubble and boil as the duck took a dive. Underwater 15 seconds. 15 seconds to frantically smack the ants off my legs without falling off the tilting camp stool...then boom. Back to focusing and waiting for the perfect shot.
Gotta get this wonderful duck who traveled so far to see us. It’s the least we can do…
