Today was one of those mornings, up early enough to catch the sunrise out of the bedroom window but not up early enough to be at the coast to catch it without a care in the world.

A few cattle grazing amongst the oaks.

Taken in upper Ojai, California.

After my RPM Class this morning at the gym I returned home I sat back and relaxed for a few minutes ... then it was time for a fresh start before my walk with a freshly made vanilla latte accompanied by a fresh fruit scone that my wife had baked whilst I was at the gym!

One the first photos I took with a Zuiko 12-60mm. No retouching, no filter, Olympus creative "sunset" setting. I've posted another version that attempts to even out the exposure.

Day 1/365 The whole year is laid out before us. We have a clean slate, a new beginning, a fresh start. I plan to make mine a great one...I wish the same for all of you. Happy New Year!

Our Daily Challenge - Beginning

There is nothing quite like a new pencil and blank paper for the feeling of expectation and new beginnings.

So glad to be back :)

So this is it, finally given up work to become an explorer and adventurer.

Just looking forward to seeing new places, learning new things and hopefully taking loads of fabulous photos!

This one is part of an collection that I wanna make this month. I want to do some tribal/ancient/mythological masks. Also will use paint to bring them to life as I imagine.

Recently I got the keys to my new apartment. The first thing I did was install new door locks, with new keys. Just in case...

BTW, I took this photo in a Foldio portable studio with the black background. However it's not as black as I want it to be. Any tips on how to get a pitch black background, yet having the main object properly lit / exposed?

ODC: A Fresh Start

As we stand on the first day of the New Year, we never really know how things will unfold. Hopefully we're fortunate, in that the good outweighs the bad. Wishing everyone health, peace and prosperity in the New Year!

From a technical perspective, the lens data in the EXIF is incorrect (user error!). Correct lens information is Canon FD 85mm f/1.2 SSC, shot wide open. Equivalent on full-frame would be 67mm f/0.95.

This is how the early mornings looked like only three weeks ago. Now the trees are full in bloom and surround our flat with their lush green coats of leaves. Very different from our old place, and still good.

I've been giving the 365 Days project some thought, and I've decided to join. My reasons:

One, my muse has been fickle lately and photography hasn't been as satisfying to me as it used to be, and I believe that this project will force me outside some of my comfort zones into new modes of creativity and productivity. If I only have one subject and I have to find three hundred and sixty-five ways to make it unique and interesting, I'm hoping it will help.

Two, I like the challenge, and hope I can meet it.

Three, one of my goals is to become better at lighting and to learn as much as possible--particularly portrait lighting. While taking pictures of myself is kind of a pain in the rear as far as focusing and composition, at least I don't have to hassle anybody else to be patient enough to pose for me over and over until I get it right.

I wanted to start the project on New Year's Day because I think it will also help me with some other goals, and I wanted to start it with an image that makes me happy because I think starting anything on the right foot can help set the pace and direction for the whole course.

So here I am, ready for a new year, full of new challenges, new opportunities, and maybe, if I'm lucky, some new friends. Cheers!

My diary was used all through last year, and the camera is what I will be watching this year through. The goals are listed for the year ahead; 12 books piled up for the one per month, the rose representing the garden and the watch and apple for the exercise and healthy food. A reminder for myself for the rest of the year.

Fresh start with a fresh orange juice

New hay field growing along side a dormant orchard. Near Ojai, California.

Out with the old and in with the new!! It was time to update my blog logo, as I don't think I've changed it in well over a year. And since I'm trying to devote more time to blogging, I needed something of a fresh start...

And yes, those are real birds! Ha ha!

. . intervenes.

. . with Flickr posting. Apologies for not having posted and not keeping in touch. I have been watching your postings from a "distance", and taking the easy way out - doing nothing. I've been busy, and that's no excuse, some of you guys are keen shooters, processors, posters, commenters AND you keep a balanced life with family.

Maybe I'm an old fart, or do too much, or work too hard, or had a young family late in life, or can't manage time, but I struggle to keep up with you guys - my contacts - whose streams are just simply fantastic.

I was going to post some "Americana" from a couple of recent visits to the US (4th July and all that).

But Thailand has just held an election, with Yingluck Shinawatra, a youngish attractive (politically inexperienced) woman emerging as Thailand's next prime minister. Congrats to her.

She is of Chinese ethnicity, not Thai, as most of Thailand's wealthy are, and she is, wealthy that is (despite the imbalanced and incorrect reporting of both BBC and CNN a year ago, claiming that the then political strife was a war of the have-not's against the haves, poor against rich, the deprived against "elite").

The clue is in her family name. Four syllables (or more) - Chinese. Two (or three syllables) - ethnic Thai (or Thai-Lao, or Thai Khmer, the people from Isaan who elected her).

If she is NOT the clone her brother (a deposed, former prime minister, who fled the country after being found corrupt by the highest judicial court of the land) says she is, she could well be the leading light Thailand needs.

Let's give her the chance (but keep those checks and balances in place).

the first picture I took of Corn Lily leaves on a hike to Hellroaring on Mt Adams has long been one of my most popular photographs on flickr. I'm always on the lookout for these plants, hoping to take another great photo, with my higher resolution camera. I love the GREEN and the lovely curves and lines and really love the misty water droplets.

Goal:

To create a Series Graphic conveying that we are not defined by our mistakes or things that hold us back from having a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Audience:

The churched and unchurched

Direction:

Write out a bunch of negative stuff, erase it, then turn the eraser dust into the words "Fresh Start"

This is our new series for the beginning of the year about creating a clean slate and pressing the reset button on our lives.

I created this video by taking about 550 photos for a timelapse with a wireless remote (see the setup in the comments.)

Since this series corresponds with a 21 days of prayer, fasting, reading the Word as a church, and journaling (S.O.A.P.), I wanted this graphic to tie in all of those things and what people might be trying to rid themselves of in their lives.

Any feedback and comments are welcome!

Lopped it all off for a fresh start. Since mom died I've sort of let myself go a bit.

At the time this was taken, Chris had gotten Junior just 4 days ago. A neighbor didn't want this dog around her own (afraid of mixed puppies) and offered him to Chris. Chris said he was a great companion and he didn't even have to train him. He was just a good dog.
