Looking at the view through the French doors in the Elysium Closet just off William Cavendish's bedchamber in the little castle at Bolsover Castle.

I posted an image similar to this a few weeks ago in black and white but I usually prefer colour. This is a new photo from another visit last week (got to fill the summer holidays somehow!) where I have tried to make the view of the balcony and garden outside visible as well as the beautiful paintings on the wall inside.

Going through the red gates that you can see on a couple of my other photos, you're greeted with this magnificent view of the little castle.

Underneath the French doors on first floor (the same doors that feature further down my photostream) is a statue of Hercules holding up the balcony on his back. The guide book tells us that the balcony and French doors were installed by William Cavendish, who finished the interiors of the little castle in 1621.

I liked this view, the castle being framed by the large, imposing red gates. I think the fisheye effect adds to this framing as well as making more of the scene visible.

SCOUT: "Oh Paddy! Paddy!" *Runs to Paddy crying.*

PADDY: "Goodness Scout!" *Cuddles Scout.* "Why are you crying? Who has upset you? Whatever is wrong?"

SCOUT: "Oh Paddy! It\'s Moppie! Who lives with Mummy Anne-Miek Bibbe and all the Bibbe Bears!" *Cries more.*

PADDY: "Oh my! Moppie is such a nice bear! How could she possibly upset you?"

SCOUT: "Well, she..." *Sniffs.* "She said that she was..." *Gulps.*

PADDY: "What did she say, Scout?"

SCOUT: *Sniffs.* "She says that she is a disappointed in me." *Cries more.*

PADDY: "Oh why would Moppie be disappointed in you Scout?"

SCOUT: "Well, you know how I came home yesterday and was cross that you, Jago and Daisy-Maud were reading about that no-good-break-and-enter-home-wrecker Goldilocks?"

PADDY: "Yes Scout." *Looks sad.*

SCOUT: "Well Moppie said that I was the one being bad-tempered and rude, not that no-good-break-and-enter-home-wrecker Goldilocks."

PADDY: "Well Scout, I hate to say it, but Moppie does have a point. You were stamping your paw most fiercely yesterday, and... well... Jago, Daisy-Maud and I quite like the faerie tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears."

SCOUT: "But Goldilocks was a mean and naughty girl! How can you read a book about a no-good-break-and-enter-home-wrecker who instigates a violent and destructive home invasion upon three innocent, well mannered, kind and tidy bears?"

PADDY: "It\'s because we all like the ending, where Goldilocks gets her comeuppance and has to flee out the window after being awoken by the Little Wee Bear whose cry was so sharp and shrill. You see then, the Three Bears an go back to living happily ever after."

SCOUT: *Sniffs and stops crying.* "But I don\'t like that story, Paddy."

PADDY: "Well, everybear don\'t all have to like the same thing, Scout. Look at Nanuk. He doesn\'t like the cold at the North Pole, but Aurora does, and some bears prefer honey to marmalade, which is my favourite topping, and some even prefer raspberry jam, like Daddy does. However nobear is wrong for liking warmth or cold, honey, marmalade or jam. The same goes for stories. You love Little Red Riding Hood the best, and I like Beauty and the Beast."

SCOUT: "Oh. I didn\'t think of it like that."

PADDY: "And Jago and Daisy-Maud, well, they like Goldilocks and the Three Bears best of all. I think they were a little bit sad after you stormed off yesterday when we were reading the story together because you were so adamant that it was a bad story. It took the joy out of the tale for them."

SCOUT: "Oh!" *Gasps.* "So Moppie was right, then!" *Gasps more.* "I was bad-tempered and ill-mannered!"

PADDY: "Well, you were a bit, Scout."

SCOUT: "What can I do, Paddy? I feel awful that I upset Jago and Daisy-Maud! I love them! I don\'t want them to stop loving me! I don\'t want Moppie to stop loving me either! We are such good friends and I love her!" *Alarmed.* "What can I do?"

PADDY: "Well, I\'m sure that nobear is going to stop loving you, Scout. Even when you are bad-tempered, you are still very loveable. However, I can think of something very simple that you could do which I know would make Jago and Daisy-Maud very happy, and I\'m sure Moppie would be so proud of you if you did it, and she wouldn\'t be disappointed any more."

SCOUT: *Gasps.* "What Paddy? What? Tell me now! I will do ANYTHING!" *Desparate.*

PADDY: "Well, you could say sorry to Jago and Daisy-Maud, Scout."

SCOUT: "Say sorry?"

PADDY: "Yes, for being bad-tempered and ill-mannered."

SCOUT: "Really, Paddy?"

PADDY: "Really Scout!"

SCOUT: "In that case, I will go and say sorry to them right now!"

PADDY: "Good, Scout."

SCOUT: "But I have to say sorry to somebear else too, for being bad-tempered and ill-mannered, Paddy."

PADDY: "You do, Scout? Who?"

SCOUT: "You Paddy! I am sorry that I was bad-tempered and ill-mannered when I came home yesterday. I promise that whilst I might never like that no-good-break-and-enter-home-wrecker Goldilocks, I will be a more kind and considerate bear, and tolerate you or any other bear reading the story, if you like it." *Contrite.*

PADDY: "That is very good, Scout. Well done! You are forgiven. I\'m sure that Jago, Daisy-Maud and Moppie will forgive you too."

SCOUT: "Do you really think so, Paddy?"

PADDY: "I do, Scout!"

SCOUT: "Please Moppie, will you forgive me for being so bad-mannered and ill-tempered? I am going to apologise to Jago and Daisy-Maud now, and I am going to be a more tolerant and considerate bear in the future. Please say you will forgive me! I couldn\'t bear it if you were disappointed in me, and didn\'t want to be my friend any more." *Hopeful.*

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

with lovely morning light seeping in - HWW!

previous video below was shot from the deck beyond

something about the way the morning light was shining through my french doors just made me swoon.

One thing I like about this is the light and glow in Lori's face. Some have pointed out that her blouse isn't straight but I think it adds to the relaxed, casual, and almost disheveled look; and besides, I like that a bit of the hip is peeking through. In the first few shots she was standing more upright but later I had her lean further out to emphasize her long legs even more and to get that oblique composition that I love.

...just need to be able to see through them now 😂😉

With all the chaos and sadness of the past 10 days, .Christmas was a little different this year I may be a couple days late, but I'd love to wish all of my flickr friends a very Merry Christmas!!

The Princess of the pink marble palace takes a stroll in the grounds surrounding her beautiful home. She admires the fine work of her army of gardeners as she gathers an array of differently shaded pink blooms into a stunning and fragrant bouquet.

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 24th of September is “pretty in pink”. Two of the wonderful things that attract people, young and old alike, to Playmobil are their vibrant colours and the array of different items that are produced. Thus, when the theme was announced, I knew I immediately wanted to photograph my collection of pretty pink blooms and one of my pink princesses for it. I do hope that you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile.

Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. Production began in 1974. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face. A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line. Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets. New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued. Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors.

Button and Sweetie Belle are out enjoying the beautiful morning!!

The Pergola patio is officially done...yay!

I've been putting the tulips in this little unheated part of the house overnight to prolong their life. Here they are framed by a glazed door, with a very frosty garden through the window. I noticed this nice light on them early this morning.

Apologies for uploading without commenting today - back to normal tomorrow :)

"Parkdown" is an impressive Reformist (Arts and Crafts) style villa built in a quiet, tree lined street in the most affluent area of Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds.

Standing well back from the street on a very large block behind its original fence, "Parkdown" would have been built just after Federation in 1901. The wonderful hipped roof is very Arts and Crafts inspired, as is the choice of a plain rough cast stuccoed rendering on the walls with minimal detailing. Red brick detailing fans out above the arched portico entrance and and unlike its more stylised Queen Anne neighbours, "Parkdown" has no stained glass in any of its windows, only leadlight panels. However "Parkdown's" most impressive feature is the wonderful open first floor balcony. Built near the crest of a hill, the views across the neighbouring suburbs to the Melbourne city skyline must be a sight to behold.

Arts and Crafts houses challenged the formality of the mid and high Victorian styles that preceded it, and were often designed with uniquely angular floor plans, yet "Parkdown" seems to have a more traditional floor plan with a main vestibule off which the rooms ran.

Moonee Ponds, like its neighbouring boroughs of Ascot Vale and Essendon, was etablished in the late 1880s and early 1890s. However, unlike its neighbours, it was an area of affluence and therefore only had middle-class, upper middle-class and some very wealthy citizens. Well proportioned villas like these would have suited a large affluent Edwardian family, and would have required a small retinue of servants to maintain.

ODC-Door

This old door is between the garage and the sun room. I suspect it's around 70 years old.

this is my brother and sister-in-law's cat. she's very friendly. she's one of those cats that will meet you for a pet. she comes to you instead of most cats that just sit out of your reach expecting you to go to them. she will jump to meet your hand actually. she's pretty sweet.

another one from thanksgiving.

i finally got that roll developed. haven't been shooting much lately. you know how it goes.

i've had a handful of photos explored lately. it's kind of weird. i don't feel like they are my best work yet somehow they get explored. not sure what that means. maybe it doesn't mean anything and it just is what it is.

Begin today with an open heart.*

Before the porch view, there's the (2nd floor master) bedroom door balcony view.

It's my morning ritual.

I look out on "my" river, tree and bench... and say a prayer.

What's your morning ritual?

I just got it, & had to take a quick pic of the pieces with Bobbi for scale. I have all sorts of ideas for dioramas!

LOL, I just realized the French doors are upside down, I couldn't understand why the door knobs were so high. :-)

Somebody's at the door! - Get the door!

Show him the door! - Show her the door!

I can't think of anymore... Great door! LOL

Day 176 - 365/2023 - A Never-Ending Journey

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Sun shining on the tile through the chair rails then

reflected in the glass pane of the French door.

I brought 4 week old Mardea inside for the first time yesterday while mom dog Stella watched very carefully. Poor Mardea spends a lot of time alone in the puppy house since Stella would prefer to sleep in the dirt outside.

Mardea has a full set of teeth and is now converting to mushed puppy chow.

Both dogs should be spayed and available for adoption in approximately a month.

I awoke at 8:09 to see sunshine streaming through my French doors! I am an early riser so this is quite unusual😊
