Wednesday evening on the Alte Brücke. Back then when I was Post Doc, our Lab Leader once noted at the sight of a pretty young officer "Frauen in Uniform... da bin ich ganz schwach". As he repeatedly told us how his twin sister used to boss him around, and observing he was clearly not the one calling the shots at hom, we found the remark enlightening. To this day, every policewoman I see reminds me of that remark, and it makes me smile. I guess some of them must be taking me for yet another guy who has a thing for women in uniform. Now, if you look closely, you'll see a policewoman in uniform at the bow of that police boat.
Thank you everyone for your visits, faves and comments, they are always appreciated :)

Like in the two previous posts the above objects were found as I clean and pack my things for my return to France. I got this 'souvenir' from Ravensbrück Concentration Camp (one fold-out booklet and six postcards) when my late wife and I visited several camps while on a tour of Germany in 1995. My wife's grandmother was interned there for several months and managed to survive despite the horrendous conditions and the sheer, sadistic cruelty of the SS women and men who acted as guards there. Not an extermination camp, like Auschwitz or Treblinka, but one where murder of inmates was a common everyday occurrence.
Pictured on the card in the foreground is infamous Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler inspecting the guards while on a visit to the camp in January 1940.
What surprised me most about this place was how close it was to the nearby Ravensbrück village; just a few hundred metres across the lake. A proximity which shows that the people who lived in the village knew very well what was going on in the camp.

This small island located in Chiemsee in Bavaria... best-known attraction is the Benedictine convent of Frauenwörth - the bell tower of which can be seen from far across the lake waters. The Abbey itself was founded in the 8th century by Duke Tassilo III and the first abbess, Irmgard, is now venerated as the patron of the Chiemgau region. The convent, subsidised by an industrial concern, now provides seminar facilities as well as selling their own speciality products through a shop on the island and an online shop which i found a delight to browse through (which can be seen at: www.frauenwoerth.de)
no doubt one of my favorite places...small intimate ..loaded with charm and lots of artists..I will have to plan on staying much longer next time...we came home with herbal liquors from an old recipe dating back centuries...created by the nuns..when the one with knowledge passes it is handed down to the next in line..wishing all the pleasures of the day ..will visit later after work..
