This one is from my archives and the third in this series of images of this location - the other two are:

I think I prefer the other two images to this, but would be interested in any thoughts you have.
The Frank Sidebottom statue in Timperley.
Panic on the Streets of Timperley by Frank Sidebottom on YouTube
40 years ago tomorrow I took my then girlfriend (we had only just met) on a very romantic (not) New Years Eve date to see Frank Sidebottom live in concert. For all kinds of reasons we both only expected the relationship to be fairly short term but (very) amazingly she eventually became Mrs Kpcv and here we are still together all those years later. And who would have thought back then that 'Frank' would have a statue of himself in Timperley? I thought it only right and proper to pay homage.
Frank looking very natty here in his Christmas outfit.
Fantastic statue of the late great Frank Sidebottom in Timperley Village.

Ghost bikes are bikes that are painted white and placed at the location where a cyclist was killed or fatally injured.
Harry Sievey was one of two cyclists involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa on Mauldeth Road in February 2017. He was the son of Chris Sievey (best known for his comic persona Frank Sidebottom)....
RIP.
Somebody's a big fan of Frank Sidebottom, evidently, but not so much so that they've bothered to contact his estate about copying his famous papier-maché head...
(EDIT) Selfridges has since prominently credited Chris Sievey and Frank, so hats off to them.

Drove down to Kettlewell to tour the streets for the annual Scarecrow Festival yesterday evening. One of the first ones we came across was good old Frank Sidebottom, whose head seems to be developing a worrying crack.
Another visit to the Frank Sidebottom statue in Timperley, this time without Christmas decorations, but it was a little rainy.
The wonderful statue of Frank Sidebottom, unveiled in Timperley on Sunday 20 October 2013.
As long as he gazes on Timperley sunset, he is in paradise.
Another visit to Timperley, and the Frank Sidebottom statue, now without his Christmas decorations, but this time in the rain.
At the bottom of Cross Street which meets Essex Road is a Banksy style homage to the much loved and missed Frank Sidebottom. Thank you.
Popped back past Frank's statue today now the crowds have died down a bit. It really is a thing of beauty.
The spirit of Frank Sidebottom lives on through a fan at the Frank's Fantastic Send Off concert to celebrate the life of Frank Sidebottom (and his creator Chris Sievey).
(If you're unsure who frank is, check out his Wikipedia page (where there are also links to obituries)
Chris/Frank was diagnosed with cancer in May, and passed away on the 21st June, after collapsing (seemingly from complications of the operation to have the tumour removed a few days prior - his death was a suprise).
A few days after his death, it became apparent that he had no savings and his family could only afford a pauper's funeral. An impromptu whip-round via twitter and facebook raised over £21,000 in a matter of days from fans, and the concert was organised to allow his fans to pay their respects and remember him. It was confirmed at the event that a statue of him is to be produced and sited within his beloved Timperley - yay!
I'm really glad we braved the rush-hour traffic of the M62 from Leeds to Manchester - the concert was brilliant - over 5,000 people turned up, and rather than being mournful it was a celebration of his life and career, compromising videos of his tv appearances on a big screen, hilarious annacdotes from friends and family, performances of his songs by his Oh Blimey Big Band, Routines by acts who toured with him such as Charlie Chuck, A set by Badly Drawn Boy (who first struck up a friendship when frank wrote him a letter asking if he could sweep the stage before Badly Drawn Boy's performance at Manchester Arena), and a set by Chris's former band (before Frank was "born") - The Freshies - with Chris' son Harrison taking Chris' place in the lineup.
Highlight for me had to be the screening of a previously un-seen TV pilot for a show called "Frank Sidebottom's Celebrity Sleepover" - it was side-splittingly funny - genius stuff - the premise was that frank would turn up at a celebrity's house without warning, and make himself at home. Would be ace if it appeared on youtube one day - i'd love to see it again.
It's funny/sad how you don't find out about the things people did until they're gone - i'd never seen the animated programme Franks World - the animation and creativity on it is staggering (in a lull in his career he got a job working for animation company Hot Animation (who produced children's tv favourites Pingu and Bob the Builder) as an assistant to the art director, and eventually persuaded them to make a cartoon about himself (i suspect his cause was helped somewhat after he penned a storyline for Pingu - "Bedtime Shadows", which Hot subsequently made, for which the episode won awards! It's a beautiful touch that the credits at the end of the pingu episode appear as "Written by Frank Sidebottom", not Chris Sievey :-)
Finally, there's a push to try to get one of Frank's songs to number 1 in the UK charts this Sunday (a beautiful irony given Frank's comedy premise was that he was so passionate and confident about making it as a pop-star, but was destined never to be one) - you can buy his classic "Guess who's been on Match of the Day" track at itunes.
Farewell Frank - We'll miss you - you know we will, we really will :-(
