On Saturday, July 30, 2022, friends of Larry Woodin and members of the Wright community gathered for a commemoration of Larry's life at the Brandes House in Sammamish, Washington. Thanks to Marsha and John Shyer, who organized and hosted the event, and to Mike Jaynes for the photos. You can honor Larry's memory with a gift to the Conservancy's Larry Woodin Easement Opportunity Fund, which helps qualified building owners overcome the financial hurdle of donating a preservation easement: savewright.org/matching-challenge-for-the-larry-woodin-ea...

Kaufman was quite a looker!

On the tour, I heard that students nicknamed the spire "God's Bicycle Rack."

Dr Reese Halter, a naturalist and founder of the international conservation institute Global Forest Science stated, "Frank Lloyd Wright adored trees and revered Mother Nature’s blueprint. The architect, author, social commentator and philosopher Frank Lloyd

Wright had a lifelong passion for nature."

Wright loved to play with spacial relationships--creating low, dark, almost claustrophobic entryways that open up into dramatic, spacious, sunlit spaces.

May 15, 2019 - Frank Lloyd Wright's Wyoming Valley School. 6306 WI-23 Trunk, Spring Green, Wisconsin.

"In 1956 Wright donated two acres of land and a design for a small elementary school to the Wyoming Valley School District near Spring Green, WI.

The Wyoming Valley School was to be built in honor of his mother, Anna Lloyd Jones, a kindergarten teacher who had fostered Wright’s lifelong love of learning. The simple concrete-block structure was accented by a flat raised roof with clerestory windows, Wright’s signature Taliesin red floors, and large fireplaces at the center of the foyer and assembly room. In 1958 the school opened its doors to 46 students in grades 1-8. Though the building stood empty from 1990-2010, it was reopened in 2011 as a non-profit arts and cultural center. The Wyoming Valley School Cultural Arts Center continues to foster Wright’s original educational mission with active programming, workshops, exhibits, performances and lectures."
