This is Alcacer do Sal, an ancient small town in southern part of the country alongside the Sado river. Here you can see the ancient castle as well as the quaint village by the river. A place I advise to visit while in Portugal ... there is a wonderful Pousada in the castle to stay.

To all a fantastic weekend .. and this is just a suggestion where to spend it!

A view of Lisbon from "above" - the rooftops in the center of the city - here you see the "Baixa" - in consideration for Unesco World Heritage site mainly refbuilt after the hearquake of 1755; it is the "heart" of the city - here the old city meets the Tejo River as well as the most typical parts of the city. In June 13th the Festivies of S.Antonio (the city patron) make this part a big party - I advise to visit it once at least - you can find all sorts of accomodations!:.)) Enjoy and have a great week!

Here you see the "Se de Lisboa" the ancient cathedral of Lisbon, built upon an old Mosque just after Lisbon was conquered from the Moors in the 12th century A.C. by the english crusader Gilbert de Hastings; the title I gave to this photo is because this monument (today a mixture of many styles) has survived 3 earthquakes - even the big one of 1755. This is a typical view of the bright colours of the city and its amazing light, mixing old and new - this unique combination of styles and colours makes Lisbon a most attractive city to visit.

Do enjoy and have a great weekend!

“I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can’t help re-living such moments as these in my dreams, for such moments are something I have very rarely experienced. I am going to dream about you the whole night, the whole week, the whole year.”

MEMORY LOVES YOU – SOPHIE ZELMANI

In dappled sunlight I look across

the lane; the red bricks; window panes

the fences that are inbetween

the hedges; fledglings sing their songs

I feel at peace where I belong

deep in the countryside where time

stands still; where timeless rural scenes of mine

and all those folk who walked before

who trod this ground; this earthy core

of my existence; golden hours

the endless; frameless; bowls of flowers

valleys; fields and silent witnesses

sheep as quiet as ancient tombs

the coolness of the stone church floors

that balm my soul and heal my wounds

I never heard such silent sheep

but they are quiet because they sleep

in blessed peace where no-one shouts

no cars that roar; no roundabouts

the curving; winding country lanes

the turning seasons; weather vanes

the spinning; whirling winds of change

don't linger here; all stays the same

and I am fortunate to be here

to stand; to sit; to meditate

I hear a distant church bell calling

not yet for me; it's not my fate

the biggest, tallest daisies grow here

the fertile soil; the sweetest toil

let meadows; lush, green natural carpet

roll out around and down the hill

meadowsweet and warbling willows

hidden in the canopies

birds of all kinds make their homes here

their world above my head in trees

thick with foliage beneath sheltered skies

here lies the truth; no place for lies

I close my eyes and listen intently

the subtlety of nature's sounds

the heartbeat of the world contentedly

thrums soft rhythms beneath the clouds

I can feel the sweet vibrations

beneath my feet and warmly spread

through my veins and warm my bones

root me; save me; fill my head

with dreams of always living in this moment

one repetition I wouldn't mind

for Heaven exists in moments like this

brings hope to my heart; to my soul; divine.

'Vincent'

- Don McLean

www.youtube.com/watch?v=dipFMJckZOM

Starry, starry night

Paint your palette blue and gray

Look out on a summer's day

With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills

Sketch the trees and the daffodils

Catch the breeze and the winter chills

In colors on the snowy, linen land

Now, I understand what you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how

Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry, starry night

Flaming flowers that brightly blaze

Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue

Colors changing hue

Morning fields of amber grain

Weathered faces lined in pain

Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Now, I understand, what you tried to say to me

How you suffered for your sanity

How you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how

Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you

But still your love was true

And when no hope was left inside

On that starry, starry night

You took your life as lovers often do

But I could have told you, Vincent

This world was never meant for one

As beautiful as you

Starry, starry night

Portraits hung in empty halls

Frameless heads on nameless walls

With eyes that watch the world and can't forget

Like the strangers that you've met

The ragged men in ragged clothes

The silver thorn of bloody rose

Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now, I think I know what you tried to say to me

How you suffered for your sanity

How you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they're not listening still

Perhaps they never will.

As you know by now, I love when artists use music to tell a story, weaving the music and the lyrics into a tale filled with emotion and colours. Don McLean is one of those Artists who masterfully achieve this. Vincent is an Ode to the dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890). He struggled with mental illness all through his life and died at his own hands at the age of just 37. During his life, he barely sold any of his paintings. Which makes the fact that these days they are worth millions kind of a cruel joke. Don McLean weaved numerous paintings of VanGogh into his Lyrics, which is another nice touch

The Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transporter invented by Dean Kamen and brought to market in 2001 as the Segway HT, subsequently as the Segway PT, and manufactured by Segway Inc. HT is an initialism for "human transporter" and PT for "personal transporter."

The Citroën H-Type vans (but mostly Citroën HY), are a series of panel vans and light trucks, produced by French automaker Citroën for 34 years (from 1947 through 1981), that are memorable for their Industrial design, using many corrugated metal outer body panels, to save material, weight, and costs. Early models of the uniquely styled trucks were just named Type H, but soon they were differentiated by a second letter, using the last four letters in the alphabet – except for the type HP for (flat-bed) pickups. Thus the vans were built as the types HW through HZ – with the majority of them built as Citroën HY.

The Citroën H-types were developed as simple, low-cost, front-wheel drive vans after World War II, using the same design philosophy as on Citroën's 2CV, but featuring a frameless, unitary body-structure. A total of 473,289 of their variants were produced in 34 years in factories in France and Belgium.

Compositionally Challenged Week 12 - Fun with Mirrors

Took a mirror to the Botanic Gardens today which turned out to be frustrating. It was super windy so I tried to stay low. The mirror kept blowing over, lol! I didn't get exactly what I wanted but this is the best of the bunch. I'm wondering if a frameless mirror would look better? I took this mirror because it rotates for different angles. Lots of experimenting needs to be done here-- framed mirror or frameless, all in focus or just the reflection.... Whoever came up with this challenge anyway (looking at myself). LOL!! : )

Spotted the Citroen " H " Wagon up at Polesden Lacey serving it's specialties - Haloumi . Well it was called " Haloumi Bite " , so that has to be a fair guess .

You can see in the far background the Water Tower that I recently posted .

This was no place for a man to be. Alone. On Mumsy Street. A white man, entitled and privileged. He was a victim in waiting, stood in the moon shadow below the old oak tree. It was dark and quiet, the wind rustling the leaves above his head suddenly loud and alarming. Spooky. The women were out there skulking in the empty doorways. All dressed in black, their faces pale in the eerie light of the moon, dark shadows around their eyes from which they peered out of the frameless windows and from behind black treetrunks. They bobbed and weaved and flitted across the grassed street between the houses, haunted shadows like witches at Halloween.

He knew they were coming for him. He was cornered, weak and defeated. And now they would move in for the kill with curved knives and sharpened claws to gouge and hack at his body. It would be bloody and cruel. But divorce always was. Some would say he deserved it. A man, of course. His fault. He heard them snigger and titter amongst themselves in the darkness, concocting evil and poison. Revenge. Fracken feminists. Just the way it was in 18th century North Wales. Midnight horror. Now there would be murder in Dinorwic.

Oh dear. I hope the filmmakers have a better script. But perhaps a horror movie set in the 18th century will come to Dinorwic. Just wait and see!

The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are still being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta.

The Fighting Falcon has key features including a frameless bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while maneuvering, a seat reclined 30 degrees to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot, and the first use of a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system which helps to make it a nimble aircraft. The F-16 has an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 locations for mounting weapons and other mission equipment. The F-16's official name is "Fighting Falcon", but "Viper" is commonly used by its pilots and crews, due to a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as the Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper starfighter.

In addition to active duty U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and Air National Guard units, the aircraft is also used by the USAF aerial demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and as an adversary/aggressor aircraft by the United States Navy. The F-16 has also been procured to serve in the air forces of 25 other nations. As of 2015, it is the second most common currently operational military aircraft in the world.

At the Fair, Prolight had a worldwide premier of its Ilda version of laser harp. The visitors had the opportunity to play the immense harp and enjoy its music. The sound is played when a laser beam is interrupted. The harp was played by a girl wrapped in fluorescent light wire. Besides laser harp, the visitors of Prolight’s booth could enjoy other laser attractions. Young and old have tried their best in the laser labyrinth. Every full hour a special laser show was played. It ended with a giant head singing song lyrics displayed on a water screen.
