Lori Metcalf of Bristol, Virginia was the first one to speak to the Washington County Board of Supervisors about her opposition to fracking. The Commissioners were to vote on allowing companies to be able to drill for gas. The Tuesday Meeting was standing room only with people for and against.

Cry out to stop fracking from ruining our beautiful country..

Press Conference on Fracking by Joe Andrucyk at Governor’s Reception Room, 100 State Circle, Annapolis MD 21401

An elderly tribeswoman protests against fracking near her home. Fracking is a process which uses hydraulic drills and high pressure water pumps in order to harvest valuable gasses. The government seems to think that fracking is the way forward, and cares little about the environmental consequences it impedes, and the disruption to people’s quality of life. For example, the woman in the painting is obviously poverty stricken, living in a wooden shack with next to no shelter. And her quality of life has been further degraded due to fracking by her home, which may even result in her not being able to live in her shelter. This effects so many people, and poses so many threats to the environment, yet the government continues to back it.

The woman almost appears to be a creature, rather than a human being, who is being treated cruelly and confined to a small space, or a cage, and then further tormented. Face is sunken, adding mystery and her old age, and the majority of her is engulfed in shadow, as if forgotten.

In the world of high heels, there is much focus on stilettos. They have been around for a lot of years now, and are not the most comfortable of heels, especially when combined with a pointed toe. For me though, a chunkier heels is far more attractive, high enough for a girl to know she's in heels, but not so high that she can't walk elegantly in them.

I'd much rather see a girl comfortable in 3" heels all day than a girl hobble around in pain in her Louboutins for a few hours.

A girl who can manage her stilettos elegantly all day every day is another matter though! :)

In the United States, fracking is a controversial process by which companies split through large portions of rock to release and harness natural gas. The controversy lies in potential risks to the environment. Wikipedia has an article.

This group was providing information about fracking, in an obvious protest against it.
